I'm going to dump funds into porting my 350 heads so I don't end up with those low numbers. I can't let the wife beat me in her 07 hemi:Smarty:

i dont get about the feeler gauge thing between the rod caps.seems like you just need to check clearance after you torque the caps?

If its only ported on the intake side I don't think it will do much. No bowl or exhaust work...
Why put bigger valves without real head work?

The 300 hp from the dyno pull dosen't seem like enough since the original 350 from 1970 that had 10:25.1 compression had 315 hp from the factory. The heads on the HP TV show were not ported that much. Just a little bit and a port match to the intake.

If somebody recorded and can dbl. check, did they really use a Big Muther Thumper or just a (smaller) Comp. Thumper? They flashed the duration & lift numbers quickly. 300 ponies with that much of a build just doesn't cut it. Even with stock ratio rockers.

315 horsepower in 1970 is roughly based on a SAE gross standard. Once the SAE convention changed to SAE Net post 1971, this convention would require roughly a 20% reduction. So in 1970 a SP 350 was making more like 252 horsepower SAE Net. With this change the results from the show are easily explained.

I recorded it, and those morons did the same thing they always do, they list the duration as lift. Instead of 295/313 @ .050 they list it as .295 - .313, idiots. So it's the Mutha Thump'r, not Big Mutha Thump'r or is it? Who knows.
I catch so many mistakes on there it's pathetic. They did an Edelbrock headed Olds 455 build some time ago, they listed the valve sizes as 2.19/1.88, those are BBC sizes, It was really 2.07/1.68 and they said it was a Comp roller cam, and then clearly showed a flat tappet.

And I know Qjets are great street carbs but they probably left a few hp on the table there too.

And they get paid to do this!!!:Dou: Just be glad the 350 Buick got some press, that's a start I guess!

I got on this site to check out a build you guys would enjoy. I personally like the Buick motors, but I doubt you will see anymore becouse of your attitude. We absolutly have company's that we have to work with that we have no choice in the matter, and all of the rest of the parts selection were gone over with Mike Phillips and Mike from TA Performance. I've seen their dyno sheets for motors like this and knew basically what to expect. They and I are verey pleased with the results and think that they are an accurate portrat of what this paticular combo will make. I have only been on the show for a year and I'm trying to improve on the engine program there. The numbers are good and I am verey proud of the build. So, having said all that remember, those who can't do (HATE). And yes I get paid good to do this so if your so good at it come on down and let's see what you got. I'm guessing you don't get paid to do this kind of work though.

With spelling like that did you even go to high school, much less graduate?

The amount of mistakes on the show is unbelieveable, so you have to wonder how much of it is really correct.
Mike Gilleys dad runs Brothers Performance here locally, he's an idiot too. It if wasn't for BBK neither one would have a job.

    Mr. (Ms.?) Bouchard,

First of all, kudos to you & the team for working with the Buick 350! It certainly does not get much attention. That kind of attention is most appreciated.

I'm afraid your first request for input probably got missed by many because back in April you posted your request for feedback deep within another thread rather than posting a new one.

Please don't again throw down the old "those who can't do (HATE)" diatribe. That sort of commentary is the bane of good journalism.

There are those who frequently post here who have done "it" and done it better using input not just from sources other than those you mentioned, but from your cited sources, too...and on a similar budget. Many folks posting here would be very happy to have offered input should you and your employers have sought it sincerely.

Are you a journalist? I'm guessing not based on the grammar in your last post. If so, surely negative comments and criticism should be nothing new! Those are there to help you if you know how to use them!

    Its "John Bouchard"
I remember seeing his name in the credits as the show was running.

John, you had a better attitude in your post in the Blue Collar Buick thread. We all loved that build and any PR for Buicks is good PR. Or maybe it was the criticism from some of the guys here that took you by surprise.

Tommy from Muscle car was great when he was posting so hopefully we just got off on the wrong foot cause having you guys post here is very cool.

Either way, forgives us. We (and Ill include Olds and Pontiac here cause were somewhat in the same boat) are a breed of car lovers that dont get the respect thats deserved. Chevy this and Chevy that. we want to get the word out there, that a Buick can run with the big boys, and sometimes better. But when you do a build with mostly sponsor parts, it does irritate a little, when the guys who have done similar builds had better results with better parts.

Now I get it. Sponsors want their parts used, and if it wasnt for the sponsors thered likely be no show. And Id rather watch Chevy and Ford motors being build than no motors if you know what I mean.

But as just mentioned, might there be a second round where you could go radical, instead of stock, and show the Chevy guys what Buick is made of?

I build that motor specifically for you guys on this site. I know some of you were unhappy with the last Buick build on Muscle car. You guys have to remember that TA Performance sent me everything they could afford to to showcase on the show. Times are tough right now for the small guys even Mike at the machine shop could only spend so much time on porting the heads for a motor that they didn't make any money on. It is also pointless to chase numbers only, the graph on that motor was awesome and I believe it would run great on the street. By the way I voted for a custom grind roller from Ta Performance with roller rockers, but like I said he has peices he want to show over others becouse of the price of certain parts. And no I am no journalist. I am a real engine builder and I try to do shows that make a wide veriety of people happy. Plus as Mike Phillips said, anybody and their dog can build a small block Chevy or Ford.
