OK, so she didn't say anything about looking at Volkswagons to bring back to put a 350 Turbo Buick engine in the back.:bla:

350 Buick build on Spike TV

I know there has already been a post on this but I thought I'd start another so that it stays up front so that every one could see it that is interested. Horsepower TV will have a build up of a Buick 350 on Spike TV Sat and Sun morning. It will feature machining processes, assembly and dyno of the engine.
The machining was done at Automotive Machine & Performance, assembly and dyno at Horsepower TV and features T/A Performance parts.
This build was to show what the average guy can do with store bought parts like the Chevy guys do.
    Hope you like it.

They probably won't convince anyone that a SBB is some monster power maker, but is is some off brand air time so I'll take it as such. It will at least show one way to build a motor. My thought is it will be a good cruise in motor because it will have a lumpy idle and sound good, beyond that each person can decide how to assemble their own combination. Quick 1/4 mile times are far more dependent on how your car is set up, than actual power made. If this build makes 400HP I will be surprised, but the heads hold the key. This big of a cam would rip with enough head work, so let's get some updated heads goin!

Having Automotive Machine & Performance involved makes this even more interesting to me. Plan on building a 350 engine this winter.

300hp 350 tq turns on at 3000 rpm. I guess I should be happy mine makes more. Motor had a nice sound.

it was fun reading all the posts about how high the number everyone thought they would be, but in in the end a large let down with only 300 hp and 350 in tq wish they would have done a little more with it

Bigger valves, but no porting. Stock shaft rockers... I wasnt very impressed with the build.

nice buicks are on tv. i think it hurt us with those numbers. hope my 340 build is a lot better than that.we already know what a 300 build can do 390hp and 422lbs. wondering if the chevy guys pulled something on us.

The key is to just port the heads as much as you can spend all the money here and you wont be disapointed with the horsepower numbers. My heads are ported but not at max. They were supposed to be at 235 on intake and 176 on the exhaust. I had them done thru TA performance in 1993. I got 390+ hp at 5900 to 6200 rpm and still at 382 hp at 6300 rpm with a TA 510 cam. So port the heads to the max and you will get some good numbers.

The 300 hp from the dyno pull dosen't seem like enough since the original 350 from 1970 that had 10:25.1 compression had 315 hp from the factory. The heads on the HP TV show were not ported that much. Just a little bit and a port match to the intake. Too bad they did not talk about the parts that were used more.

like you said they did do some head work. it also had after market intake and long tube headers.

Is it true what they said about the later heads being restrictive? compared to the earlier heads?
