Ive never been to the GS Nats. In these days I owned a different GM product! LOL! I did however spend many years attending the Car Craft Street Machine Nationals of the same era. It was very similar to what was going on here, only every make and model known to man rolling around. Man! Those were the days!!! Where d everybody go? I remember the girls having tons of wardrobe malfunctions! LOL! And tons of rubber being left on the pavement!! WOW! The Good Ole Days!!

I haven't had time to scan anymore GS Nats photos but here are some other old photos that I already scanned. These were taken in 1989 at the first South Carolina gathering of the newly-formed Carolinas' Chapter of the GSCA. The get-together was at Bob Smith's house in SC. Most of the people in attendance went/still go to the GS Nationals every year so a lot of you guys will recognize faces and/or cars...

    Here's the first five...

The black '70 GS455 is Jim Rorabaugh's car; the light green '72 GS Stage 1 4 speed is Thomas Latta's car (too bad his son wrapped it around a tree!); the gold '70 GS Stage 1 is Jarvis Allen's car; the green '70 GS455 conv. is Tom Baker's and the owner of the '71 GS Stage 1 name escapes me at the moment but I think he is related to Bob Smith's wife.

In the second group of pictures we have another shot of Jim Rorabaugh's car; another picture of Jarvis' car & an engine photo also; and Tony Burrell's '66 Gran Sport.

And Jim's car,..I only met him briefly once but admired his car for years, it's hard to make Centerline Autodrags look good but a triple black 70 GS does it perfectly

Wow, what a great thread. We were kids, but I remember most of the cars in these pics & all the (you) "older guys" that owned them - Ha! We were in awe. First year I went was '85 - I was 18 and still a senior in HS & my girlfriend I drove down in my '72 GS 350 (geez - they semed like old cars then:)). Ran low 16's - First time I'd ever been on a dragstrip! That was the last year the show was @ the mall parking lot and I believe the last year that the racing was part of Beech Bend's regular program(?). Went every year thereafter until the early/mid 90's and once again in the late 90's then life got in the way. That period was the heyday I gather. Haven't been since but hoping to go this year. In one of the pics labeled "84 Nationals" it sure looks like me & Matt Knutson walking around, but that would've had to have been late 80's. This thread brings back a lot of memories! I'll have to go through and see if I have any pics from back then too. One friend that went with us one year was an avid photographer and I bet he has a bunch. There was talk on FB of getting all the pics together in a central place this year. Thanks guys!

I have more old pictures but my scanner is broken just like my last two. I think I will try scanning some at work & see how good the quality is...
