There's some pictures here: http://turnermotorsports99.blogspot.com/2010/05/posted-5-3-10-flood-of-2010-at-beech.html I went to the Weather Channel site to check on next weeks weather and it said flash flooding. Indeed! I'd rather be standing in some mud rather than stay home but this might be pushing it. It wouldn't have helped much to go the the pitside grandstand like you do on a typical rainy day. A sad day for Buickdom.
Wow, that is hard to beleive.. There is a lot of damage there, I would suspect it will be some time before Beach Bend Raceway is back in operation. After having worked on flood cars in years past, I can only imagine what the underground and surface level wiring will look like, when the water goes down. It will be a ton of work to make that a functioning racetrack again. That is really a shame, I have always liked that track. Here's a scary thought.. imagine that happening a week later. We heard this weekend that the water was just about to the ET shack, now it looks like it's 10-15 feet deep on the whole track. I would imagine that ET shack no longer exists. That happened quickly. Boy, is that going to be a mess to clean up. JW
All true but the same thing happened at several tracks last year, Bradenton, Lebanon Valley and a couple others and they were up and running the next week. Dallas and Alfreda have deep pockets and will not let that place sit idle for one minute longer than necessary. They postponed the NMCA race last week and are losing their Outlaw race this weekend which is huge. I bet by next Wednesday the place is ready.
These (pictures) were taken at noon today with the river raising 8 inches per hour and the river isn't to crest until 6pm. This was posted on a blog link from Beech Bends web site referring to the pictures. A lot of things have been washed away including the bathroom and concessions behind the pit side stands.
They are saying it will peak this afternoon and then fall below flood stage Wednesday. http://www.accuweather.com/us/ky/bowling-green/42101/watches-warnings.asp
Typically before the GSCA started moving the date around that would have been us there as Derby Day was always the final day of the GS NAts.
I wonder how the rest of the BG is doing, I'd think that 31W and Beech Bend Rd would be flooded also............
This is from the GSCA website, from Ron Joseph, posted about 5:15 pm eastern time: Just spoke with Dallas. The water is receding. He will keep me advised. Once I get updated info I'll post here. Ron J. I, for one, have my fingers crossed!
I hope that the track or the GSCA will announce an official statement if the event is to be cancelled. A lot of people have taken vacation time, have flight reservations and hotels to take care of. Though we're all hoping for the best, it doesn't look like the event is at all possible. The national news says it is only getting worse in TN and KY. At this point they say thousands are homeless and they expect more deaths. With all this going on we should not worry about a race event.
