Hmm... one is a ready to run car that looks nice, the other is in need of some attention to get her up to a more presentable status. The nice thing with taking the car that isn't looking as done is maybe you would leave it like that so that it isn't expected to perform like it will. Lighter car (couple hundred pounds?) and a longer wheel base by a little for a theoretical improvement in control if it gets a little squirrelly.
that makes three of us! I may have a slight bias to the 67 though. I watched a 67 turbo malibu at the track about a month ago. Scary power!
The 67 was my first pick as well. But I just hate driving the 69 around looks fast but it's a slug. Anyway here is a cool shot just after I got started tonight This is a couple of shots after getting it done. I installed the new Burton Machine gasketless wooding X-Factor. It even has provisions for installing the carb backwards.:bla: I couldn't resist Mark. All kidding aside the gaskets should be in on Tuesday and should have it ready for some shake down runs next week.
I think you'll really like that new intake. No gaskets, AWESOME insulating properties. In fact, I personally guarantee customers will NEVER blow their engine when running the wooden X-Factor intake. Hardly uses any gas too.
Hi kids. I Was reading lifter install instructions, lifters need to be depressed .020-.060 at base circle of the cam. Well guess what happens if your block has been decked. You guessed it i'm down .076. Now I have to order new push rods. I think I am going to cry like a little baby if this doesn't end. Heck the turbo part is easy its putting the motor together that is killing me. I swear if this doesn't end i'm going to........ well i'll do nothing but you no what i mean.
I think you need to change the word "Progress" in the thread title, to "Problems" as it seems more accurate.
You just have to anticipate that its going to happen. Thats what i do when building or doing car stuff. Its called the fudge factor. Think of the WORSE thing that cna happen while youre building, and count on it occuring. If it doesnt happen, you got lucky . That way, youre not setup for disappointment
Turns out we have a push rod manufacture her in town. Smith brothers pushrods, don't know if anyone has heard of them. Anyway they had all sizes in stock, so I am back on track waiting for intake gasket:grin:
I am at the same point on my Procharger project. Everything takes twice as long as it should and cost twice as much. Not like we have not been here before. I heard that the Smith brothers pushrods are very good. By the way I love the organic intake.
I got my intake gasket in, yeah. Some of my pushrods are still to long, boo. I can't believe how different the lifter readings are from hole to hole. I have a feeling a lot of us buick guys just through the pushrods in and run it all the while our valves are not shutting all the way. I know that is what I use to do. I know I am going to get shot for saying this, but it sure would be nice to have an adjustable rocker setup like the chevy's. O' well smith brothers pushrods told me I could trade sizes out if need be. So I guess I will be trading.
I'm in complete agreement with you on that one.I've seen many people here consider the Edelbrock heads to be junk only on account of the chevy rocker set up,that's their best feature in my opinion.I don't know if some people have never worked with the chevy rockers before and that is why they don't like them, they sure make life a lot easier for most builds out there. When some claim that the chevy guys are going to shaft mounted rocker set ups they never mention that those are all out, radical, high performance race efforts. Some of us need to take the blinders off from time to time. Mark,in my opinion,if you can develop that set up for the BBB and get a racer to use it on their iron headed engine with good results, you may have something there. The availability and applications for sbc and bbc rockers(stamped, roller tip, full roller/steel,stainless,AL)not to mention the many ratios that they are offered in,are very appealing to many and should open some doors for increased performance.Just my opinion.
Nick, I had considered getting those but I am just a cheap SOB. Well anyway here are the latest progress pix. It don't look like I got much farther, but trust me that was a lot of work getting all the lifters to be between .020-.060. Each push rod has its few thousandths variance and so does each lifter and rocker arm and head hight. What a pain in the a$$. And look at the mess in the shop. My latest issue is I broke off half of the little plastic pieces on the rocker shaft. Should have it ready to fire tomorrow.
James- the only thing I see missing in the pictures are some empty beer bottles. Maybe thats where all the problems have been stemming from. You are not getting the proper refreshment needed  BTW- I cannot wait for this bitch to run. . . I feel like a 14 girl going to a Jonas brothers concert:bla:
I here yah on saving dollars, but how much more time has it cost you with the running around for different sized pushrods. Heck I would have suggested roller rocker setup for the car but I recall your "frugalness" and knew that was out of the question!
