I have decided to start a thread for my individual build. I started with one of turbo Mark's kits. As a matter of fact mine was the first kit. I first installed the turbo's without the wast gate seats and ran 8.5's in the 1/8. Because i didn't have the seats in all the exhaust pressure was going right out the wast gate and causing the motor to take almost the full length to build boost. on top of that the motor had 3 cyl bleeding off more that 50% by the rings.

Then i fixed the wast gate problem and the car would still have issues. So i got a good wide band 02 to nail down the fuel issues. As it turned out the car was running really rich high 9 to low 10 on the AFR chart. Well i decided to see what kind of state the rotor and cap and coil was in seems how i was fowling plugs every time i turned around. Sure enough the cap and rotor was bad. Really bad.

So then i decided before i replaced the rotor and cap that i would take the car out for a before and after run using the G-Thech meter. This is a device that measures G forces to determine you 1/8 and 1/4 mile ET. My first run was an 1/8 mile and it ran 8.5 just like it did at the track and would ping right at the end. So then i decided to run a 1/4 mile pass and it started rattling at about the 1/8 and by the end of the 1/4 it was rattling to beat heck. When i let of the gas it basically died.

After replacing the 4 bad plugs again and putting on new rotor and cap and coil the car runs about twice as hard as it ever has no g-tech run yet because two days later it broke a plug again but no pinging this time. So i knew something was wrong.

Long story short if your turbo motor starts pinging let off the gas or your motor will look like mine.

So now i am upgrading the compression from 7.5:1 up to 8.5:1 40 over. with new rings bearings and the goods. the car should run low 7's in 1/8 and high 10's/low 11's 1/4 on 6psi.

There has been a lot of discussion on what cams to use. I have been doing a lot of research the last 2 weeks. This morning on horsepower tv they built a turbo sbf that put down 980 hp on 93 octane. So I decided to look up the cam they used. All they say is they used a crower cam. So i went to their web site and looked up their turbomasters cam line. they are building cams for V8's that are very similar to the V6buick crowds cams. I have always suspected that these big supercharger cams where to big. The Idea is that when you have overlap and the valve timing is not where it needs to be then you get reversion. That means that there is more pressure in the exhaust manifold than there is in the intake(Boost). This is obvious on my car seems how i have carbon all over the top of my carburetor. Here is the cam crower uses for a 454 chev notice they have one cam for 6-12psi(this is what most of us would use) and they have a slightly bigger cam for 12+psi but it is still a lot smaller than the supercharger cams that people are using(230/240 @.050). This is because superchargers do not have to deal with the extra high exhaust pressures.

i may sound like a suck up but you are a car building GOD

you have inspired me to get a twin turbo skylark 455

    you should check out www.ricekiller.com

Thanks, sometimes i feel like a hack with all the mistakes I have made. But hopefully all of you guys can learn from my mistakes. I'm excited to see another Turbo455 in the makings. If you have not purchased your parts yet you should check this thread out http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=168343 He has some really good stuff at a really good price. He is getting rid of all of his stuff. You should contact him if you can afford it.

If that first Crower cam is what you are looking for, you should look at the specs for a Poston GS-116 cam:
    Lift: .479/IN .493/EXH
    Duration: 268/IN 282/EXH Duration @.050 LIFT: 214/IN 228/EXH
Zero degrees overlap (exhaust closes 6 deg B.T.D.C; intake opens 5 deg A.T.D.C with cam advanced 4 degrees) will help with the turbos, although you will need a strong set of valve springs to compensate for the extra strain on the valvetrain once you get into boost.
You might also look into a better ignition (MSD) with a knock sensor/timing retard system. I think you will find that the more boost you run the more you have to back off the ignition advance or you will see more of those pistons with new and unwanted holes in them.
Did you win the track championship with the primer black Skylark this year? Did you talk your "competitors" out of that new paint job yet?

Yeah the old GS went for 390 pts second was 320 3rd and 4th was 295 and it really starts to get ugly from there. And I had mentioned that if they didn't like to loose to that old ugly buick that they could all pitch in on a paint job. They said no, they love to see the look on people's faces when we go to Div 6 finals and that old ugly car is kicken Butt. Two years in a row i took 3rd. always the brides maid never the bride. I will try my best next year. And hopefully if the turbo project doesn't soak up all my time and money, i can get a cheap paint job on the race car. And i do have a boost master retard on the skymaro i just haven't been using it. That will change.

James, as far as the engine goes what have you done to it? are the heads unported, what size valves? also what pump and regulator are you using?

I put a new cam in it(the smallest cam TA makes RV12). and new gaskets. Heads are stock. These heads have the 2.13intake and 1.75 exhaust. But i have ran the turbos on the the small valves and it doesn't seem to make that much difference. I am running the BG220 hotrod pump. I took a generic bypass regulator and added a boost reference port to it. It is easy to do just drill a hole on the same side as the pressure adjustment screw and put a brake zert in it. So really i was running a stock engine. And because I didn't have the tune right and didn't let off the gas for about an 1/8 after it started pinging it broke a piston. I had raced a whole season before on a different stock engine but tuned better and had no problems. As a matter of fact that same motor with no rebuild is now on its 4th season naturally aspirated in the 72 skylark.

Are you thinking of getting a kit from Turbo Mark

no, im actually helping my friend who is also on the bored put a twin turbo 350 buick in an 86 camaro. he's ordering the cam lifters springs and that stuff now. i was unsure about the regulator.how much did that pump run you? also what size fuel line you running?

What cam are you using? 1/2 in to the regulator and 9/16 out. There are better pumps that the one i bought for about the same price. I will get with Turbo Mark and post up which pump that is. My pump(Berry Grant 220 Hotrod) is 249

well he was saying you suggested the lunati 67002 also the gsca will custom grind you a cam for $159 and a year money back warranty. i was thinking we could use 1/2 line the whole way on the 350.

Thanks for the good pics. I am still working on my Procharger project so keeping track of what you are doing. As soon as I sell a few more Camaro parts I can move on to the next step.

What are your plans for power steering? I just got a Sweet circle track pump that is much smaller than a stock pump. In the thinking process right now (hard work :idea2: )

    Justa350 I'm BACK!

So, James asked me to post up some pump reco's. If you a cheap sucker like me, you could buy a couple generic EFI pumps and run them in paralell. Okay, even I'm not that cheap. Summit sells a nice pump that will support 800hp blowthrough, or 1000NA. The other and most popular option as Kyle suggests, is the venerable A1000 by Aeromotive. There are a few sources for rebuilds of these pumps that are usually about $100 below retail also.

As far as cams go I still like the Lunati. But if you can, get it ground on a 114 LSA. I just recently found the Crower Line of Turbo Specific Cams. You may just want to Have one of those cams copied. I posted there specs earlier in this thread. If you like you can shoot me a PM with your phone number and I Could give you a call to discuss the cams.

    Have a Buickfull Day.
