It appears to me that our cams are very close as far as valve timing goes. Mine is just a little bigger. It appears that crower did a good job matching the cam to the app. Thanks for the info.

My heads are done. I go to pick them up tomorrow. It won't be long now for some I hope 10 sec passes:beer

    NJBuickRacer I'd rather be racing...

With 9:1, don't go over 26 degrees total timing or it will pop again. I'd get rid of the brake fitting and use a good barbed hose fitting on the regulator. Zip tie the line, if that line comes off you could lose a significant amount of fuel pressure/volume. When that happens on an EFI turbo car, a head gasket is usually the minimum damage. If you need any tuning/combo help shoot me a PM. I've been building GNs and other turbo stuff for a while now. I have a lightweight turbo Buick powered project in progress myself, just moving slowly due to low cash flow.

The heads look OK but the guy didn't polish the combustion chamber. He said "It is for a turbo you don't need all off that extra stuff":Dou: I then said, well what about detonation? I am a disappointed in how they turned out. What do you guys think? I think I am going to pay someone else to finish the job.

eek... hope you didnt pay much for that job.....

Looks like he started the job and put some scratches in to make it look like he did stuff. Nothing looks blended, and the guy told you what you wanted. Probably didnt put much effort into it.....

Did you get flow numbers with it?

I paid 300 for what he did and 180 to the machine shop to enshroud and valve job. So I hae 480 into them so far and about 6 months of waiting on them. Needless to say I will not be taking anything to him again.

man...I'd think about getting my money back. Like others said, he barely did anything. The valve guide bosses aren't blended, exhausts aren't polished...are those pictures with the scribe marks and the layout ink after getting them back? It looks like he didn't even finish opening them up into the corners there to match the gaskets...
I ported my first set of heads last summer which where just a set of iron v6 heads and I'd say I did a much better job than that...and I would consider my stuff just playing around...although I did spend a month+ working with them with my die grinder and a SA porting kit and some carbide burrs. :Dou:
If you don't mind being brave I'd almost say you should try and clean them up yourself.

Been lurking on your build. What turbos are you running? Good luck with the heads. Problably okay to run over stock heads but not a high end job shown. I bet you could clean them up some more on your own. I would check the valve job, it looks a little ruff in the pics.
    Nice car by the way.

    Thanks Mike, and Wayne

I Cleaned them up myself. I am much happier with the way they look. I took the heads to another local more established head porter. He said that Everything looked to be done correctly, just not finished. Which is the same conclusion I came to. He explained how and what to do to. A couple of hours later and they are now finished.

Awesome! I'm glad you found such a helpful shop/porter. Can you post up some pics of the finished product?

Funny you should ask. I was going to put the intake on and put the engine in the car tonight. I got my nice new fancy two piece intake gaskets out. I gooped them up seems how it is boosted. set the intake on. Torqued the intake bolts down. Then I cleaned the work bench off from several months of projects. This took about 30 minutes just enough time to get the high temp RTV nice and dry. Next I grabbed the valve covers. And there I see nicely stacked is the push rods. Guess what that means. It means no lifters with the intake installed nice and solid. So after a few minutes of throwing wrenches and some choice words, I took the bolts out. Then I carefully Removed the intake and ripped the $#%@ intake gasket. So now I have to order a new $#%@ intake gasket.

    Sucks about the lifters.
I love this thread though. I've thought about a turbo for a very long time now but had no idea how to go about it. I've been a little more inspired by things I've read on this board, but this thread is cool because we can follow it.
I like the pictures too. I've seen some twin turbo setups, but this one looks to have some of the issues that I didn't like solved.
Most recently I was at the track and a guy had a 67 Malibu with a twin turbo setup. He was telling a buddy that he was up most the night re welding some of it because he broke some of the plumbing the night before at the track. Looking at your pictures I see you have a very nice solid mounting system for the turbos and it looks like you have a couple flexible joints between the turbos and the carb.
Looks like a way more reliable setup.
By the way, I can't remember what the Malibu was running but is was pretty good times and he didn't even have the setup close to right yet. He pretty much never saw traction the entire 1/4 mile.
When I eventually get a car to build for the track, I would like to look into the price of a twin turbo setup. Not sure if I'm going to be able to do it but I'm sure going to investigate the cost and figure out the plan.
Thanks for the great thread. It not only educates, but inspires!

Thanks guys for the support. I ordered new intake gaskets this morning. I will get every thing else ready so that I can just drop the intake on and put her in. On second thought I may just put it in without the intake on. Yeah that's what I am going to do maybe I will have some more pics tomorrow. Well it's time to go to the car show. One of these two cars is the next car to get the turbo treatment. What say you?
