All right, I just took a hit off the crack pipe (below), and am only dreaming of breaking into the 12s. Must need a bigger pipe. Your turn for a hit.
Ok Who is talkin smack on this board Com'on fess up  I beat ya bad just give me half track and I'll show ya! :3gears:
I'm not saying nothing.....but....I did take a little test run in the GS last night and I think I need some new tires on the back (hint, hint). Think I might buy me some slicks! :Brow: Going to the 1/8th mile tonight with my friend's tuning equipment hooked up to it. So far the numbers look good.
You'll find out soon enough!!!! So will David, Ben, and especially Carl Brimer (see attached list of participants that Carl started - he purposely misspelled my last name). :moonu: :moonu: :moonu: :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: Add your name if you have been missed. Dee Horshack - with car David Newton - with car Rick Kinworthy - with car Ron Britton - with car Carl Brimer - with car Mitch Smith - ? Greg Kring - ? John Martin - ? Rob Downey - ? Carl Brimer LSPBC News
ABSOLUTELY!!! So everybody's up for cold beverages halfway down the track? :Brow: Or am I mis-reading things? :Brow:
I'm not sure, but the main words I see in this post are strokes and enjoy/able. Does anyone see the same thing? o No: Don't see beverage anywhere in it! ou:   Originally Posted by VKohanski ...Sort of like my golf game, though, I figure the longer it takes you to get down the track (or the more strokes), the longer you get to enjoy the enjoyable...
I had one good tire boiling session :3gears: on a deserted city street with no problems except for almost getting busted by the cops. Did the drive down, turn around thing, no cops in sight. After boiling off the tires really good, and a good clean run with no problems, I was excited and slowed the car down pronto. But guess who was waiting for me on the other side of the hill? :eek2: :ball: It was a dead give-away that something was going on because we had the wire for the computer running from the exhaust up the door and through the window. ou: He followed me for a good long way (probably running my plate). All of a sudden he sped up and flew past me. Nothing like a great heart in throat moment! Went to the Denton track Friday and it was closed due to vandalism. Tried my own 1/4 mi. run down the service road and had the same problem happen. Got on it 2 more times with no problem. o No: o No: o No: So the GS might not be going to Temple this time since gas prices are high and I don't want to spend all that money on gas if the car is going to crap out on me. That's the update! :ball:
Mixed results, but a failure nonetheless ou:. Sorry to hear the ignition upgrade did not do the trick. At least you did not get a ticket to really get you mad. If it makes you feel any better, I am still having fuel issues with mine, even with the electric pump . Fortunately, mine works well for short periods, but longevity is an issue for longer drives. So, I will be crossing my fingers that it makes the 1+ hr drive to Temple. Ben
Arrgh Not glad to hear that you two are having troubles , but we are chasing the same issues up here in the north with my Cutlass and a friends Special , ignition, and fuel issues.....We feel totally STUPID not being able to cure these issues on almost FORTY year old cars with FORTY year old technology but alas, we are perplexed......one falls flat on its face just after launch, other breaks up on launch....and we have tried EVERYTHING and ANYTHING.......it makes it more frustrating when you are trying to get it solved soon before a race....so my sympathy goes out to both of you, thats frustrating stuff !!!!! ou: Last week I solved a computer issue on an 05 Chevy truck...but I cannot get my Cutlass to stop gagging...........Arrgh ! :spank:
That sucks!!!!!! :af: :af: :af: After all of that and you still have a problem? :af: :af: :af: :af: :af: The ignition upgrades did a world of good. Just didn't fix the problem. It was money well spent. :beer The good run is where I met Mr. Johnny Law and the car wasn't completely up to temp. yet. Just a short drive from home. Do any of your fuel lines come close to hot areas like the radiator hose, intake, water pump, etc.? I covered mine with rubber fuel line and stuck an extra piece inbetween the really hot areas. Haven't took it out for a run yet since I have to drive about 20 miles up the road and preferrably after dark to try to find a safe spot. I drive a vehicle for work, so I can't get a bad ticket like exhibition of acceleration. Might loose my job. :ball:
My friend made a special trip from Austin just to help me tune my car with his Innovate LM-1 Wideband O2 meter. Car was tuned perfectly (dang thought I could get some gas mileage out of it) but came up with some interesting readings while the car was "gagging" AND not "gagging" up. It's got to be a vaporlock issue since it seems to do it the most when the car is warm, like before the coolant gets hot or the thermostat opens and lets water through the upper radiator hose and heater hose where the fuel line touches these areas. I don't want to go Ben's way of installing electric pump yet now that I know he is still having problems! ou: Sorry Ben! :ball: Someone has got to be able to help us!!!! :ball: :beer :ball:
Here's some inside info. on David. Don't repeat this now. It's been said that I don't go "all the way". :Brow: I heard recently that David doesn't go "all the way" either and falls on his face 1/2 way through. Half track huh David???? :Brow: :Brow: That's about all you need!!!!!
Well on my Olds we first thought fuel supply, dropped the tank and found the curve on the fuel line "Might" have been drawing a little air, maybe enough to cause a problem on hard acceleration, so fixed that AND new sock in the tank, all checked out etc......no go...THEN, checked fuel pressure, seemed fine, BUT decided to go with LARGER fuel line from tank...that made a difference, but problem still present....SO then replaced 3 different fuel pumps [mechanical ] not any real difference......checked out carb[3 different ones]...tried several combinations, timming, ignition, etc etc etc.... ou: Now thinking MAAYYYYYBBEE its the fuel pump excentric...so planning on ripping the friggin engine out since I didnt build that one, go right back through all of it...good excuse to put an even more ignorant cam in it and replace my Hayes street/strip Borg and Beck "kneecap breaker" with a Centerforce Dual friction and upgrade the motor mounts....I too am avoiding the electric pump for some reason, maybe try one temp and try fuel pressure gauge where you can read it to see if it makes any difference ????? o No: Luckily up here in "da woods" I have plenty of places for clandestine test drives ....just have no extra $$$$ due to low incomes in the area....its always some'tin isnt it ??? p Do YOU have any more ideas ???
Dee what was the outcome when you tested Nicks Carb? What size carb are you running now? and What type. Phil
Man, Dee - you're getting vapor lock while at wot? Man that sounds odd...Hmm...I'll pass this along to my brother-in-law the maintenance guru... If that's the case, at least you've narrowed it down to some point between the pump and the carb...wonder if you've got a restriction in the inlet line? I forget - have you swapped fuel pumps? I'll bring my Stage 1 fuel pump to Temple just for fun.
Okay, dumb girl question: What is the fuel pump excentric? I probably know what you are talking about but don't know the name. My idea is vapor lock. I'll just give up if that's not the problem. I also need to find one of those plates you put under the carb to keep it cooler. What's that called? o No: ou:
