Marty the quick fuel carb is working out well. Much better than that demon I started out with. I am looking forward to putting on the SP3 to see how the motor responds. Currently the heads are breathing through a straw but making decent power. I am getting motivated on working on the car. I have been out of the loop attending college. I am 2.5 courses from completing my MBA. So this fall I will be able to work on my Buick more as well as my RX7.

If it were me id be giving Chris a shout and trying to procure a QFT fuel injection setup this would be the ticket on a smallblock , not that the QJet isn't awesome but lets face it its still a 40+year old carb if I was gonna drive one and I mean drive it id def go with one of the throttle body setups over ANY carb. Im seriously thinking about maybe ditching my Dominator now thst Fast V2.0 is available and can support 1200hp

Well boys and gals, something bad happened and I'm not sure what it is. The nose over problem I had racing Mark at BPG happened again tonight. About 4k rpm in second it shut down. What I don't get is i had two clean runs at BPG, and missed a shift on the 3rd run and nose over and it hasn't acted right since. Sorry to disappoint everyone, I tried to make it a good one.

    That's no disappointment at all.

Your efforts are HUGELY appreciated. I'm just happy that you gave it a sincere run. We'll help where we can.

Bummer, but I know the feeling!
Well time to analyze, the intake runs good, better than the dual plane just driving around.
Same issue cropped up with nose over as the dual plane, so that tells me the SP3 install is good.
Is it fuel or ignition, hmmmmm.................
Justin, do you know for sure if you have the larger fuel inlet/seat in your Q-Jet?
I had the small .123/.125 in mine. Ken sent me the larger .149, seemed to solve my issue.
IIRC, an 1/8th" drill bit will fit in the smaller .123/.125 fuel inlet.

    Your running HEI, yes?
I've heard some HEI modules don't like higher RPM, they wig out, just something to consider.
Hey thanks a bunch for posting the install! We all appreciate it big time:TU:
OOOOR, send me your SP3, I'll try it, and you can bolt on the cast iron stocker:cool:

I read this post again, and your nose over sounds exactly the same issue as what happened to me at Thompson when I was trying the new Q-Jet.
After install, around town it was fine, first couple passes at Thompson was fine, then I tried shifting manually at a higher rpm, and BAAAAAAAM, run outta fuel, back off, it recovered. Would do that on the next few runs, I packed it in.
As I mentioned before, the larger inlet/seat, needle AND a new Airtex fuel pump.
How old is your fuel pump?
My theory on mine: Old fuel pump, fine for cruising, higher rpm forget it!
Im almost sure if I would have just replaced the .123/.125 inlet with the larger, I'd still have issues if I kept the old pump.
Consider your fuel pump, and check your inlet/seat.

Sounds like a pump issue, what are the options for good 350 fuel pump?

If it was me I would stick a Holley 850 dbl pump on it. That is what the intake is made for, Four holes the same size to feed the engine evenly. Not dump a bunch of gas down the back of the intake from the massive secondaries from the Q-Jet. To me this should cause a distribution problem. I never have a problem on the street with my dbl pumper. Response is NOW. I can tune every aspect of the Holley, not true with the Q-Jet. But to each his own, just my 2 cents.

With a rebuilt carb and your combo why would it not be set up for your engine base on your input, this should have never happened.

All good to hear. Is this problem something you guys think you can replicate on a long stretch of empty road, safely, without track time?

I ask because I was often guilty of making lots of changes to solve a problem, and then not knowing which change(s) actually helped, when I should have just tried one thing at a time with some runs down a nearby mile-long rural road surrounded by nothing but corn. In other words, if fuel delivery is the issue, it would be great to get that solved and see how the q-jet works afterward.
