Don't leave Devon out of this he has been killing great threads for years. For the most part his post are good but when he thinks he is correct when he is way off base he is extremely Arrogant. He killed the cylinder head thread I had going because of his cut and paste feature.

I think a couple of guys got carried away with too much tech info. there are not going to be 100's of 350's going to the max. maybe 2 hands worth and they will be learning from many different people. so, the emphasis should be on basic s/p learning and how far can we go with the minimum input. one step at a time.
then we have people like me go multiple paths to get to the never ending finish line.

now lets go back to the future.

Damn that sucks! Did you have the carb apart for some reason during the swap?
Also, be sure all your vacuum ports are connected, and or plugged in/plugged.
I remember firing my car up one time and forgot to plug in the hose for the vacuum booster, ran like ****
Get some rest bud, and take another look, Im sure its simple!

You remembered to hook up the PCV valve right, or at least plugged the vacuum port? :)

I turned down one of the 4. Sheri said the others (next run of 50),would be machined along with those 4 so it wouldn't get to me any sooner.
There was supposed to be some slight variances on the new batch too, so I'm hanging in there.

I'm going to check and see how they are doing tomorrow.

Cool, so I wont have to have mine machined for my "sissy carb"

You guys do realize the intakes are tapped for 4150 style carbs for a reason.

    They work too!

Mark, I did have it apart for some tinkering, and the 3 separate times I had it apart tonight I found some things.

    1. My float hinge, or that looped metal part.. Was cockeyed and pressing up on the gasket. It was also bent a bit so I got it straightened and the gasket fits flush now. I can attribute that to the few times I've been messing with the innards as it wasn't a problem before I got invasive.

    2. The primary piston was not stuck and operated as it should, I watched it move with the help of a small screwdriver and was seated well at idle and moved with throttle.

    3. My 1/4" base gasket had a split in it.. Oops

    4. The bolts I used were a bit too long and were not sealing the carb properly.

    5. Funny you should mention that! My hardline was not sealing properly. I played with the rubber connection at the carb and each squeeze resulted in a different sounding hiss. So I plugged it temporarily.

Side note.. Don't check for a proper seal of the joint by sucking on the pcv valve end of the line with the other end still connected to the pcv port on a rich running q-jet.. Get a nasty tasting lung full of air!

    6. Once the leaks were sealed, every idle screw on the car was out of whack. So an hour of playing with a vacuum gauge and a screwdriver resulted in a steady 15hg at 750rpm in park and about 675ish rpm in D. No trace of nozzle drip, and idle screws responding with high sensitivity. Hot starting was also achieved with only a blip of the key after the adjustments.

You guys kill me, I still laugh when I read the bill haha.

So it all works.. Now the update everyone has been waiting for..

I know the normal thought with the a single plane is that you loose lower rpm power and gain higher rpm power. But I must say that I noticed a dramatic increase at all rpm. There was not one time that I mashed the skinny pedal, or was at part throttle where I wasn't grinning ear to ear and feeling a solid pull from the motor. The only way I can put it into perspective is when I worked to get my compression from 8.8 to 10.3, it is the same kind of increase only added to what I have done already.

I even had my tiny 115lb lady in the car with me for the ride, she has been with me for a lot of cruises but this was the first time she was trying to find a "oh s$!t handle" that didn't exist haha.

Kickdown felt like it pulled much harder and there was no feeling of topping off before a shift. And I had thought my tires spun easy before..

Final thoughts is the intake was worth the work. I have no intention of bolting on my dual plane again. I'm not stock but the motor isn't radical either, and in the 30 minute drive I see no issue driving it daily.

So we shall see what the track says Thursday.

I have no doubt they perform very well! I'm just partial to my q-jet and decided to take the hard route!

I have the same opinion, I just don't care for the Holley Vac. Secondary Carb. The difference between that and my Q-Jet is night and day!
Believe me, I wish I had known back then what I know now about Vac. Sec. carbs VS a Q-jet, but back in the late 80's when I bought the Holley Vac. Sec. from Summit, carburetor repair shops were closing up, fuel injection was all the rage, repair services weren't available (none that I knew of) like Ken and Mark. I don't even think V8 Buick was around, was it?
Had I went with a Holley DP back then, my original Q-Jet would still be in a box in the garage!

    Heck yeah!

I'm cautiously optimistic that it will do well. It will be a warm one tomorrow but at least it will be dry.
