Darryl, was that single plane intake originally yours? That's a nice piece and I'm glad Ron is letting us use it. Even with the single plane intake I don't think it'll make over 600 hp, but who knows? I can tell'ya I never thought my engine would pull over 500. The good thing concerning the rods is the engine has the race version of the Wiseco's and the fact that the engine makes the most power around the 5700 rpm range. Jim o-ringed the block as I thought I would be putting an ATI procharger on, but with this much power I'm going to pass on that thought. Can you post some pics of the turbo setup you're making? Anything with twin turbos is definately a sweet deal.

Nate, If Rob was'nt going the 4 speed route with this engine, I would use a s-p 400 behind it.
This engine really is a very decent street engine, the idle isnot that bad, is has really good torque down low, It is not some high rpm high strung peaky type engine. It has a very flat torque curve
I have stated that this engine is making 400 ft/lbs at 3000 rpm and stays over 400 ft/lbs all the way to 5900. The torque peak is generally around 4500 to 4600 and again at around 5500. These are very streetable type numbers. Jim Burek

Has anyone even seen it? Maybe they are pulling our legs? maybe we need a pic for proof? hehehe

I just took the pic off Jim's site. Seams to be part of his main logo image.

CD would be better as I could print pages as needed and would not ruing a book with grimy hands. Bought a few library books like that.

    Hey Jim

I my memory serves me right, this has been on your website for some time:
"One of the Most Underestimated Engines
The 350 Buick engine is probably one of the most underestimated engines, even by Buick people. These engines are well designed, they are built strong, not overbuilt."

and a little father down your page:

"I have heard of these engines running 12's with not too extreme setups. Maybe one day mine will, or Yours!"

Now that you a personally help prove this, how do you feel?

Just a side idea. Jim what are your thoughts on a 350 similar to this, but with maybe 8.5:1 or 8:1 CR, and custom cam, with a Procharger system on it. Of course with, more than likely since it doesn't look like anyone will be coming out with any soon, custom forged rods, and maybe a custom block halo? If these two things were done, do you think the block itself would hold? Other than these few thing, can anyone think of any other obvious problems? I will defiantly be getting a 350 build in about 2 years, and will be looking at something like this, or even a turbocharged 350. I know this seems way out there, but so did a 500+HP streetable 350 only a few months ago. Anyways just a idea, but a serious one at that.

    brblx clueless

so, with some billet steel rods and a simple halo girdle, what do you think the 350 motor could handle? would the cast crank become a limiting factor before the block is tapped out?

    Re: Hey Jim

I think a low compression 350 with a pro charger or turbo is a great idea. I think the block on these can take quite a bit.
I believe there is so much untapped potential in these engines. I have been excited about this one from the beginning because this is the first one where a customer has wanted to really push the envelope on one of these. Most guys are happy with a 350 horse 350, that's all they want.
WIth working with all the tubo v-6's we do, doing the same thing with a 350 Buick would be kind of fun. Jim Burek

rob my name is don and I"M new to this form so I hope I writting this in the right place.if not all foregive me. I am right in the middel of a350 rebuild myself, the origianel rebuilt by magnum supercharger of mn, only lasted about a year or so but had oil presure problems and backlash problems even before I took it home but that is for another day, right know as we speak the motor is being repaired right. my motor has a cam ground by schieder /230/240/.480 new fordged pistons(60 over) moly rings a t/a intake ? I will dyno with this and origenal intake and the T?A one,X pipe 700r trans had the deck shaved alot I have origenal carb rebuilt by john osborn and a holly 750 poston headers new distributor rebild by dave"s small bodyGM . and I'm sure I'm forgeting alot for that I am just a body man trying to go fast, 2 years ago the motor dynoed at 353 hp. but went down the 1/4 mine like a motor home 15.7 at 87 mph not what I expected. this year loking for alot more. know for a ? who and what and how much did it take to get your heads to flow the way you did, loking for a little insight, what other goodeys do you have in the motor. the reason I,m asking is sounds like I have a great start on my motor and if you can help with the heads with a littel more info. that will be great and you say you put in 10.5 1 pistons is that the compresion you have. again my name is new and mybe if I get my car done I will see you at nationals Don.s

Don, I can tell you all the power is in the heads. Jim Burek "buick535" ported them and built my engine so he would be the guy to get in contact with. I believe the engine is around the 10.5:1 compression, just enough to stay streetable. The bottom-end of the motor is using factory rods and crank that's moly coated throughout. I believe alot that accounts for the performance and reliability of the engine is the experience and machining done by the engine builder themselves. Jim definately has that talent and it shows through the dyno numbers. With the addition of the roller rockers and custom grind cam this engine might reach the 530-540 horsepower level. Plus, he'll be trying out a custom single plane intake that a board member is allowing us to use. Who knows, the engine might hit the big 600. When putting your engine back together make sure you have the correct clearances if you want it to survive, it's very important.

I'd really like to see a graph or rpm chart on what that 350 is putting out...

I still say... Excellent work and I can't wait to see what it will do with that single plane :TU:

rob I think I will get Into the 400's myself and be abel to drive to california on pump gas , but what I really want is power like yours, and I hope I can see you run your car, do you think or know what kind of gas it will like.

This engine is a 93 octane street motor that I'll be able to drive anywhere. I think some people are confused thinking this engine is a race motor, but it's not. Jim just got the roller rockers, so he'll be doing another pull to see what amount of increase it gives us. We're still waiting on the cam and intake to arrive. With just the cam and roller rockers we're thinking it might hit around the 530-540 horsepower mark and it'll still retain it's street manners.

    Just a quick question here.
You are all working on the intake manifold using a carb.
What about a design of a intake manfold that uses fuel injection?
Use the lastest design of that system so it can use a computer
based fuel need system to produce the power wanted.
As I understand it, different rpms require different needs in
fuel mixture to get the most power.
The carb is OLD tech, where FI is new tech.
I for one would be interested in that.

I have 350 sbb in a 82 Sport Coupe, turbo V6 went to the toilet.

Fuel injection is sweet but would be about 30x the cost of a manifold w/carb!!!
Something to start saving for though because it may become reality soon enough. :Brow:
