I'm a 455 guy who is seriously pumped up about this 350. My wife and I have wanted to do a small block daily driver for awhile now, and knowing that a 350 can make as much HP as a big block makes it that much better!!!
Im waiting to see how streetable - and I mean drive anywhere, anytime, any distance - the 350 is. My 463 is very streetable and I drive it like I would any other car.....and its ~500 HP If the Lil'350 that could can do this too and not be halfway to a race motor than ITS ALL GOOD !!! :TU:
I had the TA 510 cam in my 350 and it was pretty radical. The street maners were very good even though it had 5 inches of vacuum at idle 21/2 at idle in drive and I drove it everywhere.
Going thru withdrawels here!! What's NEW, anything yet?o No: o No: Eager to hear the next phase.........:Brow:
Dang.. TA 510's was pretty dang radical in my 462.. must sound WAAAY RAD in a 350!! o No: :eek2: :jd:
It sounded meaner than a junkyard dog. I think I needed a 456 gear to do it justice I only have a 373 in it. My bottom end was a little slow but top end was very good. you could take it to 6400 easily but I tried to keep it at 6200 rev limit it had its horse at 5900 (395hp). Since then I have changed cam to the pop mech cam from the GS club Better bottom end but less on the top end.
I think I need a cam between the TA 510 and the pop mech cam but don't know what to do. i have 10 years on this motor now may need rebuilt.
The 350 Buick with the poston 111 cam ildes at 900 to 1000 rpm at 10 iches of vacuum. It would have a little more vac. at lower altitude, remember, we are at 4000 feet on a good day, more like 6000 Air density altitude, at the time I ran these tests. Jim Burek P.A.E. ENTERPRISES
Sinse we're talking about idle RPMs and vacuum, what should a stock 350 be running at? Mine currently runs at 600 RPM with 14.5 inches of vacuum. I've actually got a bit of a hesitation problem with it at the moment that I encountered after changing over to a Holley Street Avenger carb. It's only a 675cfm, too small I imagine. The plan is to rebuild the original Q-jet for it (again) with more performance in mind and see where I stand. What do you guys think about my #'s? If it helps at all, I'm running ~9 degrees advance and tune the carb for maximum vacuum at idle. Engine is a 69 GS 350ci with 4bbl. 10 1/4 : 1 comp. As I said, still stock. But not for long. Oh ya, and in reverse not park. First time I did it in drive I almost ran myself over. Can anyone say "Darwin Award"?
Ah, it jusyt hit me! You guys are looking at ported vacum and I've been looking at full manifold vacuum. It would seem that my vacuum is a little low though wouldn't you say? I'll have to take a look for a vacuum leak when I return to the car.
Actually I think they are using manifold vacuum too, its just that the larger cams make the vacuum a lot lower. At idle the ported vacuum should be zero anyways. In nuetral my car idles at 800 rpm and draws about 18 inches of vacuum. Thats right about where it should be so you should still look for a vacuum leak.
I was just thinking. This engine will be great for racing but what about the 4X4 world? One of them extended CJ's done up for arena racing with a mild 500hp 350?
I use to love watching them arena trucks on TNN and itwas always a stretched bronco or CJ that won. They could do doubles n triples like a dirt bike. Just hit the gas n jump like a 2 stroke.
While speaking to rob, they were just waiting on the new cam to arrive so they can get it back on the dyno.
Great news Jim. I can't wait for the numbers. This is exciting! I've got two on the stands right now. one BB and one SB. This will be the determining factor as to which one is getting the good stuff first. :TU: :3gears: :TU:
