I don't see how that can bolt under the crossmember. The ear for the transmission mount is either on the front and on the top of the crossmember or on the stamped crossmembers, the mount holes are up inside the crossmember.
I'm pretty much gonna make something like this. Found this photo on this site somewhere. It bolts to under side of crossmember...
Now that one I like. It won't change driveline angle. The ones that are flat must be installed between the trans mount and crossmember will change driveline angle.
Yea never fabbd anything in my life, but I'm a steel draftsman. Lol I could probably draw it in CAD to get bend dimensions/lengths. Or just hand sketch everything. Can't do anything until the transmission goes back in.
In speaking to what Rhett mentions regarding pinion angle - which makes sense - Buick had two little quarter inch thick, round shims on the big block manual transmission cars in 1970. Like most little "bits" that came with these cars, they ended up getting discarded at some point in time, similar to the starter bracket that's supposed go from the starter to the block or the little clip that affixes to the radiator used to secure the longer overflow hose. This is from the '70 assembly manual: When I swapped out my original M21 a couple years ago, the shims weren't there. Again - most likely discarded during a clutch change early in the car's life. During the swap, I installed the loop from Ram Air Restorations that bolts between the mount and crossmember. The thickness is the same as the shims I mentioned: 1/4 inch. So, in theory, I actually didn't change my pinion angle but brought it back to where it was originally intended to be. I subsequently bought one of the Caruso loops James Weinman made a run of and will likely use that next year due to it being a bit beefier.
Maybe he plans to make some more https://v8buick.com/index.php?threads/drive-shaft-safety-loops.382953/
My guess is they were all the same thickness. I can't see Buick making them in different sizes based on production costs alone. Initially, I thought this may have been why my wheelhop was so insanely bad - even with that loop installed - but it turns out the AC Delco rear shocks (I'd replaced the old air shocks with) were the issue. Nonetheless, there's a 1/4 inch shim there now.
Well with 2 younger kids and 2 divorced sister, and a widowed mother taking most of my free time....sometimes you have to buy........and to know when I get time to know it fits. Means I can spend my time on other things. I hope you can get it all done in under 50. I do miss when I had endless free time....but not my time basically has to be calculated into things with a $ tag on it
He's no longer doing them. James made a run of them last year for both the manual transmission/TH350 and TH400. The link is posted in this thread a few posts back.
