Maybe add distributor gear oiling. My machinist drilled a .035” hole in the oil galley plug behind the distributor gear. 5623B9D9-4360-4F2E-95FB-D33E0D86B1BE.jpeg D1F55606-A5B4-4C8A-B2B4-920BC9DB33EB.jpeg

This might be what it needs some kind of oiler to keep the gears in oil.. It might be that once these engines get up to 7 grand there is too much friction and it is just too much for those gears. It might be just bending at the high rpm

Could you attach a a bracket with a bearing in it and have the top of the oil pump shaft go thru it.
With the oil pump trying to spin at 7500 it just might be pushing out from all the pressure.

The shaft is very long from the top of the dist holdown and the bottom of the oil pump shaft, lot of area to bend at high rpm.

high rpm is causing movement at that junction there are 3 pieces attached together there. No other engine is set up this way correct?

c'mon.....we only go to 7500rpm. what could happen.....

That t/c housing needs to be a slip fit with no wobble. Knowing John, he will probably bronze sleeve the the gear shaft hole.:);)

Yep Dan, I've got Demkos old cover here that I planned on doing that to.

Haven't looked at my gear recently, but when I do I'll be scrutinizing that whole assembly, gears, shaft clearance/ tightness, alignment/ mesh (threw that big hole), and drill the tiny hole in the oil gallery plug if everything checks good but still detect some wear.

I've been shifting at 7k myself for two seasons now.

New theory, could it be that my longer gears in the pump housing are giving more support for the shaft and that is keeping the shaft more stable in the system.

would a spray of oil to the gears be better than a stream of oil coming from the galley. With the hole in the galley is it really aimed at the gear in the pump or will it squirt a different way when coming out, and what about the launch out of the hole that oil may go against the wall of the engine and not shoot to the gears. Has this been tested yet?

Also would the oil being squirted on the gears cause even more friction and cause more wear. would the stream of oil on there take more power from the engine. this is spinning at 7500

I guess the super charger could give a crap what the gear is doing at the end of the distributor it is going to pump that little 350 to the moon. (7500)

I was looking at the pics of the oiler from the galley and I think the spinning of the cam gear is going to keep the oil from getting to the gear since it will hit the backside of the gear. and just splash all over the timing chain.

wouldn't this oil slow down the timing chain and take HP away?

    I think a clear, lexan t/c might be needed....:D:D
We gotta see what's going on...:)

Stick a camera inside the fuel pump hole lol

How much vertical play is in the distributor? Lot of play less tooth engagement?
John if you didn't run Gas and went alcohol you would free up space:D our oil pump is mounted in front of the engine so width of frame is not an issue :).

Hey Mart, would love to see some time slips for the last 2 seasons. Got any handy???

Not yet. Weather and stuff going on always takes over.. I'll make it a priority this spring. You should too.

Tracks been closed for the last 2 seasons due to Covid, nothing I can do about that…..
As soon as it opens I’ll be there. If the weather holds out, I try a get out to my testing grounds and shoot a video

    #455,
how high in rpm's do you go? have you checked the dist/cam for wear?
