I have only been spinning it to 7000, still tuning the blow thru carb. I actually just did a cam swap & no issues with my distributor gear, but cam wear..... let's just say the #1 exhaust lobe was eaten.....
Sorry not much help with your issue, wish I had some insight for ya

headache is gone now what did you come up with?

I still say my large gear set is the way to go more area to stay straight. Just got to make sure all the oil holes are bigger along the way.

I guess the rest of us need to start spinning to 7+ grand lol

I’ve done the shim thing on mine when I had GM HEI ignition, worked fine, but I was thinking at the time “ if the distributor gear is shimmed it limits its self adjustability” it’s not allowed to go where it needs to to be happy.
Then years later, I read the same thing, soooooo, I gave up on that idea, now that I have an MSD distributor ( since 2001) I haven done anything with shimming then gear, all has been fine, even with the HV pump and taking it to 7 grand, but that’s only 3500 cam/ pump/ distributor RPM.
I believe unless you can physically see where that distributor gear and cam gear are while it’s running, trying to shim it is useless and maybe even harmful
My dist gear looks like yours Guy, nothing unusual

teeth look like a 100 yr mouth.
some of teeth are worn down in the middle of the tooth o.d.. others worn on the side.
now who makes the large gear???

Max Damage I'm working on it!

    Thoughts.
Gears weren't right in the first place and didn't mesh properly?
Insufficient Oiling for high RPM operation?
Timing case isn't true and wobble/grinds?
    Oil pump bind or hangs?

supercharger pushing so hard it is out running the distributor, can't keep up with the extra hard push.

You guys got to remember, gsjohnny is going down the track flogging to 7+ grand all day in a rail with slicks and blower.
lot going on there lots of pressure
So go out and beat on those 350's and report back

The larger gears I refer to are the oil pump gears Hv oil pump setup. if you are talking about getting new cam gear I bet that could be hard to get and who is making it. this could be important piece in future.
Dist gear probably hard to get too. Rock Auto probably has it lol
    TA?

use to have the 1/4'' plate. o/p was over 100 cold. got rid of plate, thinking o/p is issue, 60-80 now.
the gears were brand new from t/a. have to get a hold of lee zane and others to see if they had issues.

He runs good rods, and light pistons I would keep the stock rods under 6300.

My oil pres. is at 60 on startup idle and can go to 80 at 1000 rpm wonder if you could run 5-30 synthetic to keep the pressure off the gears, but enough to hit 80 at 7g

you basically start up semi cold between rds, so the lighter oil may help. I know i have waited an hr between rds. and the oil pressure does go back up some.

There was no gear for end of cam at Rock auto. might have to run the bronze on dist until you figure it out
I would ask the racers too not too enough racing a 350 on here to get good info.

I do not know why I never had trouble in this area but I always ran synthetic oil

we don't need no stinkin' oil filter. and only run 4 qts of 10w30 amsoil(budgetary, lol).
this dragster originally had a 354 hemi in it. maybe..............

sounds like a pink floyd song "we don't need no"...
oil filter just gets in the way oil is clean.
if it lets go it's in the pan anyway plus at 7500 where else is it gonna go lol.

Last time I seen a gear like that, the machinist screwed up my head's or I should say didn't do the work. I'm running a 275 285 advertised lunati cam shaft. the guy was supposed to turn down the valve guides to accommodate a smaller valve seal to gain clearance for the valve spring retainer and did not causing the valve spring to retainer to bottom out against the guide and seal causing excessive cam lobe wear. how is the cam? Also, at the time my fuel pump eccentric lobe was getting wore down the only thing I could come up with was metal particles acting as sandpaper. Josh
