C'mon man... its actually Derek. Call him SCROD or AVENGER (his boats name) and he'll know yer an insider  He's a great guy and has helped many, many times, but alas, Ive never met him in person, only virtually! If you ever need any diesel fuel injection stuff or even advice (great on turbos too!) he's the man to see! I think he has a 72 Olds and bought a set of rally wheels for it, and included in the deal was a Buick Riv wheel that I hooked him up with some one from here. That wheel was for a spare but looked pretty good and he gave the guy a great deal IIRC.
He does a ton of work on shipboard fuel systems and also for the NYFD fireboats etc. Take him out for a Coke and send me the bill! :TU: ws

You took the words RIGHT out of my mouth. That's what the bumpers SHOULD look like. I am amazed at how many restored GS's do not look that straight.

Looks like this GS is going to be saved. I just bought a 72 4 door donor car with a good running 350 today. So I will save this poor GS and sell it as a running car. I will do my best to place it into a loving home.

If you notice the radiator top plate, someone dated it 1979.

It seems to me the date is checked for antifreeze on 9 of 1979 for - 40 below zero which is common in MN to write it on the car under the hood.

Please save the original engine and include it with the sale! Glad to see it won't see the torch just yet!

Just an update on the 69 GS- yesterday she got her heart transplant. I swung the 350-4 engine from the 4 door Skylark into the 69. Its sitting on the mounts and installed the trans crossmember. The plan is to put the accessories onto it during the week and have it running by the weekend. The old engine and trans is sitting on my dolly safe and sound in case the new owner wants it

After I cleaned up yesterday, I took a little polish to the fender and it shined like a new penny. I cant wait to give this a good scrubbing inside and out.

69 GS-350 update- got all the accessories bolted up and got it running in the 69. I threw a set of plugs at it, a set of points and a new cap and rotor. Changed the oil and filter and got the thermostat to open. As some of you may remember, this is the 350-4 engine out of the 53k mile granny car I parted out. Funny, the distributor still had the plastic point cam lubricator in it! The engine looks right at home.

The punch list for this week is to get a new fuel pump, degrease the valve covers and replace the gaskets, find out what's in the tank, and start procuring the parts to fix the brakes.

I bet this car hasn't ran since the early 80's. After so many years dormant, everything came alive once I hooked up the battery. All the lights work, key buzzer, even the "wish it was a 70" light came on

Now you're the big hero! Smiling Stepchildren owners will happily carry you and your parts around at the next event.

Here's the last '70-'72 guy that saved a '69 coming thru downtown Bowling Green...

They moved it to the top of the dash in '72, but all '65-'69 and '71-'74 Gran Sports were equipped with one. I've got the wiring diagram here somewhere. It takes a 194 bulb if I recall correctly. See reply 24

All by design my friend. I wanted the engine to look like its untouched had always been there. Didn't want to disturb the "barn find" appearance
    Mission accomplished! :beer:pp

I finally saw the piece you are referring to. It's like a reinforcement insert for the top of the grill. I love it. Every GS should have had this. The grill mounting on these cars is so unstable. No wonder they always cracked.

Careful Alan. We're not out of the woods yet. One wrong reply may make Jason put the G _ S in GAS AX.

EASTWOOD start to carry "Barn Find" in a spray can?? Theres not even any fingerprints on the air cleaner lid or fender wells. Restored, clean and shiny?? You've taken that to a new level! ws

Yep, the stepchild grille is made of some plastic that's both fragile and magnetic. I've had strangers think it's ok to put their hands on the surround as they lean in to see under the hood, and once while my family was gathered in the driveway the 'resident penguin' decides to back on up against it to lean/settle/sit(!). Driveway full of car sides that a lean wouldn't hurt, folding chairs too. Nope--'beep-beep-beep groan/pop/ping/crunch. It didn't break, but sure sounded like it was going to.
