Figured I'd just give this a new thread. Picked this one up today. funny, the guy started out high on the price last year. Told me he had a couple other people looking at it. The other day he called me and said he had to 'get rid of it". Translation- "my wife is making me". Got a pretty good deal on it after beating him up a little (all part of the game) Its got a 1976 Minnesota decal on the windshield. This thing is bare bones. Manual drum brakes, no AC. A real stripper. I like strippers:TU: One observation of it is that its 100% original down to the paint. Its literally un-touched down to the factory stainless capped lug nuts. Its a shame someone didn't take better care of it Im already sore from winching it up on the trailer. Stuff like this reminds me Im not 20 anymore!
Since the rain stopped, I took a closer look at this car. Im starting to think the odometer is correct at only 45k miles. its got all the earmarks of a low mileage car. Going through the treasure trove in the trunk, I spotted the elusive 2 wire ignition wire separators. The trunk jack hook still has the red part number tag on it and the spare looks to be original also. The heater hoses are ribbed with the original pinch clamps. Yellow striped washer hose and you can still make out the markings on the firewall. Any of you 69 GS guys ever seen a metal brace like this on the backside of a GS grill? Its between the top of the black plastic and the chrome If you notice the radiator top plate, someone dated it 1979. I think something sidelined this car around that time and it sat ever since. Too many things on it convince me of the low miles.
Not that gizmachee thing, the other gazmachee thing. look at the backside of the grill between the top of the black plastic and the chrome piece. In between is a flat metal strip. looks like a support maybe
Nice haul JC ! Not to hijack this thred, but what size is that trailer? I am somewhat in the market for a used one for some summer tripping with my '72. Storage space is at a premium here and it looks like an extra 2-3 feet on the front. Do you really need that other than for a WINCH MOUNT?? Any other input is cool and useful guys! How wide between fenders? Can you open doors or crawl through the windows?? Thanks, Bill in snowy Two Rivers.
The trailer is a 1999 Big Tex 18 footer with an open deck. It was $1950 brand new. I bought an 18 foot trailer because I didn't want my Riviera's butt hanging off the back of a shorter one. If someone was going to rear end me, Id rather have them hit the back of my trailer than my car. The fenders are low enough that the doors on the car open without issue. Not sure of the measurement between the fenders but Ive put all kinds of cars on it and theres plenty of room between them. It was built to order for me. Its the only thing I'm the original owner of. I cant even tell you how many Buicks have been on it or how many states its been in. Its been to almost every BPG Nats. That trailer owes me nothing! One of these days, Im going to take a page out of Guy Parquette's playbook and give it a restoration!
Nice one, Jason! No, I have never seen that steel/ aluminum piece.. I would bet it's home made.. :TU:
Jason, That is way to nice for you. You should give it to me. ( waves hand) you need to give it to me. Nice score Jason. Just wish the recluse old lady about 50 miles from here would let go of the 72 Suncoupe that has been sitting forever. Tim
The 9-79-40 was the anti freeze test at -40F. So a 16 footer should do mine OK? What about clearances to the tow vehicle? ws
