My wife and I just got the second shingles vac. yesterday and we will take the COVID vac when it is available to us. I took my in-laws to the doctors today for their first COVID shot. The second at the end of January

I have been married to a critical care RN of 25 years......she had so many isolation patients over the years and then came home.
I never had a problem. I think if you work on your karma every day it gives your immune system a boost and you don't need a vaccine.....your body takes care of you.

Shingles suck! I probably got it from taking too many bicycle rides in the hot sun and working too many hours getting up at 4:30 AM. I definitely felt run down before. When you get it then it feels like the worst sunburn and Poison ivy on steroids. Knocks the crap out of you. Mine was in chest and wrapped around to back. I knew what it was the second I saw it.

Put me on the list for NO!

I was raised Christian Science (still am) I have never been to a doctor, don't take medicine & have never had a vaccination in my 58 years on the planet. I used to piss off
all the other kids in Elementary school, we would all be lined up for what ever "flavor of the day" vaccinations they were giving out & when it was my turn, I just handed my exemption form to the nurse & walked away! LOL

God Bless & Happy New Year

I won't be doing the shot either, I know 3 couples who have had the virus so far. They are in their 70s and 80s with poor health, one of them had a stroke 8 months ago, two of them are diabetic, out of the six a couple of them went to the hospital both female and obese. They all survived and are doing well except for one weird situation. My friend Rich was to have a heart procedure concerning a valve, it was postponed due to the covid. He went back 48 days later and tested positive again, no symptoms it was put off two more weeks, he went back and tested positive again, he don't think he has it, feels fine. There are just to many unknowns for me to submit to the vaccine!

Or contact with maybe a parent that has a child with chicken pox.
My bout was on chest, left side, from middle of chest to middle of back. Swath about 6 " high. Yes, nerve sensitivity was really bad. Hurt to have a shirt on touching your skin.
Lost some vision in left eye even tho it was isolated to chest area, left eye twitched for 2 years after. Weird stuff for sure..... Doc said same thing, probably would not get it again, but you still could.

If you stop and think about it, and I do quite often, the human body is quite amazing, it never ceases to amaze me how it reacts, protects and repairs itself.
While were out and about "doing stuff" in the outside world, our bodies are doing "their stuff" inside us, and sometimes our insides need help.
Thats why God made doctors and nurses, the things medical science can do to our bodies is amazing, and most times our bodies accept it, from simple back flushing an IV with saline, to chemo therapy that actually puts poisons into the body to kill cancer cells, unfortunately it also kills good cells.
I remember my first session of chemo for my Hodgkins Lymphoma (blood cancer) it was a feeling I never felt before and didnt know how I should react to it, or if I even should. I felt like an electric motor thats trying to start, but all I was doing was buzzing, and it wasnt a good buzz either, it was weird, never barfed tho.
One day I came home from chemo, felt queasy, told the wife Im going outside to put the new heater control panel in the van, she said "you sure" I said "yeah, F this ****"
I worked full time thru all of this, the only thing I couldnt stand were the steroids to keep my energy up, I felt chilled all the time and felt I had to poop constantly, Percoset took care of that.
So anyway, yes I'll probably get the shot, but I worry more about my wife tho.

Same virus. After you've had chickenpox, the virus lies inactive in nerve tissue near your spinal cord and brain. In some people, the virus travels along the nerves and manifests itself as a painful rash. Doctors think it happens when your immune system drops from STRESS.:)

Thst is the kind of utterly unscientific distortion that simply sows mistrust and doubt amongst those who don't know better.

A more accurate discussion of true facts follows.

Weren’t the death rates from these diseases dropping before vaccines came along?
One of the things you may have heard is that the death rates from vaccine preventable illnesses were declining before vaccines came along.

In fact that is true but that is only half the story. Consider polio, a virus that can cause widespread paralysis. As medical interventions improved doctors were able to keep people alive until the virus had run it’s course, through the use of technologies such as iron lungs.

This does not mean the number of people getting polio was decreasing, or that the person did not suffer.

It was not until a polio vaccine was developed and in widespread use that the death rates (the mortality) AND the rates of disease (incidence) declined.

Before 1960 the number of people dying decreased as standards of living and health care improved. But mortality only measures people dying. The number of people getting sick with the disease (the incidence) did not change until vaccines came along. These graphs illustrate this point for measles.

To determine if a vaccine works look at the incidence of disease, not the mortality. Here are some more examples.
