A friend of mine uses Pypes on his 70 GTO RA-IV and sounds awesome so "other" was my vote.

Torque tech gets my vote, and I have their 2.5" mandrel bent system with long case DynoMax Super Turbos.

This system has a noticeable idle, a good tone at cruise, and really loud at WOT.

Be aware that a mandrel bent system will be significantly increase the loudness as compared to a compression bent system. The kinks in the compression bent system kill a lot of the noice.

Here is the system I am installing on my 350 car.
I hope it will have the sound I am looking for.
Its TA headers, 3" collectors, 3" TA tailpipes, 3" X-pipe kit from JEGS, 3" Flowmaster super 40's.

I know lots of people say 3" is way to big for a 350 but this motor is going to be replaced by a BB down the road and I want to be able to use the same exhaust syatem.

I talked to the folks at Torque Tech and they say that you pipe does NOT have an effect unless its to small. They say it all comes down to the header primary tubes. So 3" it is.

On my old 350 I had Hooker headers, 2 1/2" Torque Tech exhaust and the old Flowmaster 40's.
    That car sounded sweet!!
Just hope this one sounds as good.
    Good luck.

I run Flowmaster Deltaflow 40's. they have a nice rumble at idle, nothing too insane and they sound real good when you get into the throttle.

I have been through this on another post- but hearing is believing....

    Old system 3" super turbos
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAqvW0jlqCE

New 3" with X pipe and Dynomax bullets (not full race- street legal)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pgwkzpzzge4

Full throttle pull on the dyno (new system)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Af3rIsI1qmI

The new system with X-pipe is tighter, and also somewhat louder....
BUT not droney like the super 40 or 44 series (on Dads cars) at cruise speeds- you can still talk without yelling!!!

    Hope this helps...

I'm with you here, Andrew. I prefer as quiet as possible, and let the intake do the talking. Intake sound is soooo much better than exhaust sound. And it doesn't wake the neighbors or scare little children.

Right now I'm looking at trying some of the Flowmaster 70-series (P/N 53072). That is a large case muffler that is supposedly very quiet, but still performs well.

I have no idea what this means. What "sound" do you want - hush-quiet like a Prius? Throaty rumble? Wake the neighbors and scare little children?

My cousins 72 Stage car has the club x pipe exhaust with the magnaflows and is really quiet and enjoyable around town and at lower speeds. When you get on it you can definately hear it. I have a 2 1/2 x with older flowmasters on my goat, sound awesome, but they are not quiet. They will probably go away when I go to 3 inch. Tony

Spintech's have a WICKED sound, but they are very loud. I had them on the 65, and they sounded great, but I ended up going back to Walker Dynomax. They were just 2 racy sounding for the performance of the ol nailhead.

If I had a 10 sec street car, it'd be spintechs all the way. They make anything sound badder than it is. Just need to have the performance to back up the sound.:TU:

all suck compared to a cherry bomb straigth shot glass pack as long as you run a proper full length tail pipe.

The muffler s like the mouth piece on a horn, you still need the horn part to make it sound right.

Why the majority of folks don't like glass packs, most don't puts them on right.
They just let the exhaust dump or end right as the end of the muffler which sounds like trash.

I don't like the sound of a glasspack , too damn noisy and rattly . Not rocket science to install . With tail pipes all rattle noise .

If you got a rattle thats something else.
I have never had that and all I use are glass packs.

Here is mine on a single, I have since gone to duals.
Only noise is the lens cap dragging and a low idle miss I done fixed.

No I don't have something else wrong . My car does not have glass packs and NEVER will . The rattle NOISE I am referring to is in my opinion nothing but noise . You know as well as I do they pop and make a non muscle car noise . Todays mufflers flow as good and any glass pack and most often make more power and sound much better .

There is another option;;; i have fabbed mufflers in the past, the last one that i made was for a 64 riv , a dual system with one muffler that exactly nailed the 60s muscle car sound and made the car run much better.....the only down side was the weght.... several pounds heavier than the stock one but it will last much longer....and was much cheaper....and i really enjoyed the project...

Cool, I have considered building my own mufflers before also. Its not rocket science to a point ;)

I have dual glasspacs on my car, and I think the sound is authentic and correct. Just last week I had my car at the muffler shop I use, and I went under the car to look it over. I saw they were glasspacs, (I didnt know before) and I asked my guy why there was no popping on deceleration, since I thought that was part and parcel with them. He said that the popping is because of a rich condition, and not a glasspac characteristic.

Talking mufflers can be as heated as talking about who you are going to vote for.

But myself I have run glass pack on everything from 4-8 cylinders with none of them problems caused by the muffler.

If you got a rattle or pop, its not the muffler.

Though you may not hear them sounds as easy with a box type muffler where sound can get trapped. But its not the fault of any muffler.
On the typical downshifts under load, raw fuel gets into the exhaust and fires off.

Right now I have duals on the Buick and a single on my V6 Firebird.
No one can tell I have a V6 anymore, everyone think I have an 8.

When before with a stock system its screamed V6 over 2k but once changed the car turns heads now. Have seen folks break their neck to get a look, where before the obvious v6 sound got nothing.

    Neat-O

I like true dual though. Much easier to drop the exhaust and its not in the way as much, I can also just drop one side of need be.
