My Dad's 51 Chevy PKup - we used it on wkends - poured 1st concrete job in forms, he left me to "finish" it, went to second stop with concrete truck - poured second job - had the truck driver pour the rest of the liquid concrete in the truck bed(stopped $$ clock). After Dad "finished" #2, he came back, got me, we drove the PKup (nose in the air - had to look around it) and we shoveled the concrete out into the 3rd set of forms and "finished" it with half-dried concrete. Truck lost 2nd gear (for some unknown reason) a few weeks after I got my license - I was 17 at the time - 1962. I washed the truck and bed out before the road test. Not sure it helped. I woulda FLUNKED if'n they had ever seen that load of concrete - it was over a ton. :TU:
My Dad's 1946 Buick Super Sedanette in Jan. 1955. They made me go get the brakes adjusted befroe I could take the driving test. Bob H.
I based on your post saying '52 Caddy. Anyway, here is another pic that claims to be a '52. Either way, cool looking cars.
1963 Buick Skylark 2 door Hardtop 215 cu in 200 hp V8 w/4spd in Indio CA in 1963. :bglasses: Was as nervous as a horse in church, but passed OK.
It was in 1969 and I took my test in a 69 Buick Wildcat...and drove that car through High School. My dad kept that car up to 145K miles...never had a bit of trouble out of it...even though I ran the hell out of it!! I wish I could find one like it today!
A borrowed 72 dodge dart 3 on the tree. I took the test on my 16th birthday. I got a few points deducted because I ground the (defective!) gears once. It was the first time (and last) I had driven the car...
With mom and dad in tow we went to a dealership and they bought me my first car in 1986,a 1971 skylark custom which i still have today.I remember my dads face clearlly because there was a 67 chevelle ss 4sp sitting beside it and he wanted me to get it.I said no way this skylark was platium mist, black top, black interior, has power windows and air. There are days my dad still reminds me of that, when i'm ordering part for that buick. To beat all they went and bought my sister a 69 camaro 8 months later which was silver with black top and interior. When the story come up i have to remind him i allso have the 69 camaro now.:TU:
In a new '58 Buick Super Riviera hardtop (dad was dealership Service Manager). Three right turns and one parallel park...done.
My parents 74 Buick Regal. Silver with black hard top. I took the test late April when I was 16. A freakishly, late snowstorm hit the night before and left 8 inches of snow. My test was at 8:00 AM and we lived about a half a mile down the road from the driver examination center. Too late in the season for MDOT to want to plow. So we crawled to take my test. You couldn't see the road signs, lines or even curbs..... I was the only one there with testers. They yelled at me for showing up, but still gave me the test...........Big surprise I failed the first time.....o No: Oh well........that's Minnesota weather... Got my license the next try in warmer weather:3gears: I also got my first ticket going 90+ with that same car.:spank:
1955 chevy 210 sedan, year 1962. After about 10 minutes into the test the guy asked me how fast we were going and I said 45 mph. He said the speed limit is 35 so you have failed. On the way back to the place we started at and ambulance was behind us with the red lights on and the instructor said aren't you going to pull over, I immediately said why, I've already failed. Funny how you look at things when your a 16 year old punk as compared to when your older.
Yep...grew up with Buicks. Each year, my dad had several demonstrators...and our own Buick. Starting the summer I got my driver's license, and working at the dealership while going to college, I managed to drive at least one of every year Buick from 1938 thru 1966 (Opels don't count...not even the GT!). Many memories...most notable, '65 Skylark GS 4-speed, '65 Riviera GS, Wildcat GS convertible 4-speed...and my all-time favorite '54 Skylark. And, there was my own '40 Special business coupe that I put a 425 nail valve in. Yep...hooked...
