This is picture of underhood base attached to fiberglass (not original) hood that has been cut out a little further so a 4inch aircleaner fits.
Simply AWESOME!!!! Both these cars (Guy's and Tom's) just blow my mind..SERIOUSLY!! Tom, 2 Things: do you have any interior shots and why are the grills different in the last two pics? Am I missing something? Isn't that the same car? o No:
RIX CAR Tom- Awesome car to say the least! same exact cleaner i have...i had thought when we talked you made comment that i had the only cleaner tub like that, misunderstanding on my part. I put it up against my skylark hood this weekend and thats how i would have guessed it going. it's good to see we have the exact same setup. always heard their were three of these stg2 scoop setups made...wonder what ever happened to the third one?? really nice car Tom. Thanks, Guy
This has got to be the best thread I've read so far. These two Stage 2 cars are what I dream about. It just makes my day to see these two cars are still around and in good hands. Keep up the excellent work... uh, I mean "dream", guys! Oh, and please forgive me for taking the screenname.
my dad went to buy a new family car in 70 for the new baby to come (me), he already had a "new" 67 camaro and el camino, but mom wanted a "family" car. they went down to Tip Top chevrolet and saw the gsx! it looked like a family car and they bought it, it just had a fancy stripe, right? dad was a drag racer so it appealed to him too, after all, buicks are family cars, right? well, dad eventually bought from the dealership stage 2 heads, cam, manifold and a 1050 afb(not from dealership) and various little items, changed the rear to a 12 bolt with 456,s and rebuild the trans with a kit and switch pitch convertor he learned about from kenne bell, whom which he spent some time with in ca. he installed trans am super duty rods and custom pistons and a "home made" ignition box from the guy who later used his initials to form a business called msd!! im writing a little vague here but you get the point, there is a lot of details left out, maybe later i'll add them. both my parents died in the last few years and i still have the car, i consider it a one owner since it never left the family! the car is in excellent condition and i hope to post pictures in the spring when i get it out of winter storage, for im in alaska! go ahead, ask questions. bob :TU:
Thats a cool story Bob! Are all the Stg 2 parts still on the car? That sounds like a gold mine you have there :beer Can't wait for pics!!
AWSOME STORY BOB !!! :beer :TU: :beer ....sorry to hear about your parents though but they live on through the car Welcome to V8BUICK :beer
Bob, that would be so cool to post pictures of the car your Dad owned. Looking forward to seeing them here. :TU:
Wow - neat car guy! Nice to see it being so well taken care of! In post 23, the upper rear controls arms look like there is an extra link at the center section. Can you post a picture of that area? What is their purpose? - Bill
Wow- Neat to see this thread come alive again...really brings back memories. Bill, those are "no hop" bars, Changes the pinion angle which drives the rear tires into the ground for better traction. Pretty sure Dave installed them when he had the 12 bolt put in. I'm right now in the process of detailing the original 10 bolt rear end that also came with the car (4.78 stgII gear and all) and putting that back in. Also restoring a set of Motor Spyder wheels for it that they ran on the car in it's earlier days. I'll post a more current pic of the car... Bob- Welcome to the board! that is a very interesting story to say the least!! Please do post some pics of it and tell us more! I love the history...
Guy, Yes, Dave and I put the no-hop bars in. We used them on the original 10 bolt and the later installed 12 bolt (with the 4.10 gearset). Glad you were able to find another set of the 4.78 gears, I'll bet those weren't easy to track down. I'm pretty sure the car originally had an AM radio. I remember searching for the radio delete plate for years before we found one and installed it in the car. I have a bunch of photos when the car was in my shop after Dave bought the car from Bob and we were trying to get it back into shape. The interior, including the wiring needed a lot of attention. I'll see if they show the dash with the radio. I showed Dave some of your finished product photos....he was impressed. Said it couldn't have gone to a nicer guy.......and I guess that last word fits. :TU:
Thanks Guy and Dave - I learned something! The car is looking great! When did you get it finished? - Bill
