The chip shortage must have took a turn for the worse. Just two weeks ago they had the last of the thousands we got months ago cleared out.......then BOOM...almost over night we have a couple thousand new ones show up....
That's gotta be expensive to ship all them trucks from Ft. Wayne to here. And that means the lots at the assembly plant are overflowing also......
I wish things could get back to normal.....DANGIT!

    Peace WildBill

This is what happens when the only source of parts is overseas. Surprise!

Yes, the chip shortage is ongoing. The only thing that might mitigate it short term, unfortunately, is a recession. Additional production capacity is years away.

Max Damage I'm working on it!

It has zero to with the fact that production is overseas and everything to with the shortsightedness and lack of understanding on the part of people who run the car companies.

They cancelled their orders and so got out of line with the foundries... If they had continued ordering but reduce numbers, they could have stocked those chips and still have had parts flowing, instead of having to stock unfinished vehicles now.

JIT has been the darling of business school thought for thirty years. Works great, until it doesn’t.

Of course it’s on purpose, just like the fuel costs. The good news is that once we hit rock bottom people will realize why we got there. People had to be shown how bad it can get and we aren’t even close yet so hold on.

    STAND FAST

We are out of the woods. 8% my butt. Everything I buy is at least 25% higher the 18 months ago. So I buy at least as possible. Stock up on engine oil for everything the takes oil, and oil filters

It’s insane right now, shortage on everything. Can’t get parts for our trucks or heavy equipment, the fuel stations are running out of diesel fuel, there will be a shortage of def. It’s a joke. All these people are getting rich making tick tock videos and no businesses can find employees. This current government just keeps printing money which has no value.
I agree with the above statements, this is just the beginning. We’re heading for a recession and economic crash. God help us if we need to build tanks or something because we don’t manufacture **** in the country any more. Oh and wait till the trucks stop running and people can’t get anything. I hate to be a conspiracy theorist but man I feel like this current government wants us all broken and totally dependent on them. I repeat, GOD HELP US!

The issue is way more widespread than just the car companies. The shortage extends into virtually every industry that produces a product that utilizes chips into its end product including CM's who build products for OEM's and whose lifeline depends on good management of their supply chain. The car companies mistake was relying too heavily on their subcontractors to manage the supply of chips used in the products they build for the car companies. Most car companies now realize this and will be much more engaged in controlling the supply chain of chips used in their vehicles.

Correct. When there is good balance between supply and demand, the JIT concept is effective and efficient however, when imbalance occurs in supply/demand where demand exceeds supply, the wheels fall off the concept of JIT.

I don’t think our government has a plan, they’re just trying to keep their jobs by any means necessary (mainly printing money to hand out). Business has a plan: getting as much money as they can by bleeding people without them noticing. Every $7.00/mo. here and 12.99/mo. there from fees and subscription services combined with rent, leases and perpetual payments means money to them before it can be saved. Wealth and security come from all minimizing payments to others and using all those little and not so little savings. Amazon, Starbucks and Walmart didn’t so big selling yachts and buildings, they got big on millions of $20 transactions.

We are getting cut with a triple edged sword. Inflation, higher interest rates and investments losing money.

And the latest shortage the Govt did see coming is Tampax. Go figure.

That’s one I don’t understand-why is demand up for tampons? Either people who should be using them all along weren’t, or there’s unexpected new users. Maybe it’s another part of all the gender dysphoria? Maybe our nation is turning into female specific (from birth) orifices? Or is there a rolling paper shortage?
