I went to many concerts in the late 70's-early 80's. Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, I don't remember most of them.
Ha !.....there are so many concerts that i attended and had so much FUN at......like Stevie ray Vaughn at the Indianapolis Sports Center with Gregg Allman band opening for him on June 20th 1987....hard to figure out the ones i missed when i hit so many back then Peace WildBill
Being a transporter, I miss out on a lot of stuff...I.E. family get togethers, car shows & concerts. I am a classic rock fan + some blues & folk. I wen to a lot of concerts over the years. In the last few decades I have enjoyed seeing the folks that I was too young to see at their peaks in the late 60's/early 70s....Trower, Mason/Capaldi (of Traffic), Al Stewart, etc. The one I was really sad to miss because I didn't get back in time (had tickets already) was Richie Havens in a small bar that probably only held 200 spectators, because he passed away a few months after that concert. I also had tickets for Gordon Lightfoot @ a Northern Ohio Casino & didn't get home for that one either, but he came back the following year & I made that one. Amazing how good he was being 75+years old! There are others I did not get to see before they passed that I would have really enjoyed....Jack Bruce, Gary Moore God Bless & Merry CHristmas Bill https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...ar-transport-hauling-open-or-enclosed.614419/
There was one I almost missed due to my Buick breaking down....but didn't. Bruce, Sept 1984 in Hartford, Born in the USA tour. Headed down I-84 and my fresh 455 stopped running. Quickly traced to a soft bronze distributor gear Kenne Bell sold me on to use with the high volume oil pump. I was with a friend, and had to meet up with my sister at the venue to get the tickets prior to the show. Clock was ticking. VERY coincidentally, an old friend was driving by at the time and pulled over. He said, I only know one Buick like that! He took my friend to Hartford, I hitched a ride to a local (closed for the day) junkyard 10 miles away, and got lucky at every turn - a young guy was working in the junkyard garage, and he let me grab a stock distributor gear off a 455 I knew was there. I gave him $20 to drive me back and help me time the motor. Missed the first three songs of the concert, but Bruce played for over 4 hours that night! Very memorable!
I saw Pantera in a small club in North Carolina back when Phil had long hair and Cowboys was still under the radar, 1992 ish?they were awesome! tried to get on the bus with them after to hang out after the show but they didn't want a couple teenagers with mullets on the bus..... they took our bottle of Jim Beam and all took a swig and signed it, man I wish I still had that. I do have a bass pick from Rex that I caught.
Being at Woodstock was a hoot. Yea, I'm that old. You believe parents let a 17 year old go? In fact I went with a classmate! No phones and they were freaking out when they saw the news. Anyway, by Sunday night we were cooked. Pack up the tent (cots were gone...) and stuff and head home to Virginia. Missed Jimi. I was thinking I'd catch him later - Not! Miss you Hendrix!
Seen foghat at the Virginia State fair in 2019. Paid 15 bucks with express parking, that parked us right behind the stage. Walk right around to front stage seating with a blue ribbon pass seating. It was a fantastic show. Was going to see Alice Cooper in 2020, but this covid thing put that to rest.
Wished I woulda gone I always thought another time My son and I had always agreed to see Chris together He had seen him with audioslave We never got the chance sadly On a side note one I didn’t miss was Alice in Chains when Layne was still alive
Ha ha.....i had a ticket to Woodstock....sunday only....i was only 13 but my mom was letting me go with a bunch of guys in our neighborhood......her best friend from high school was married to an executive from a steel company here in town....they had three boys and the youngest was my best friend...oldest was a Senior and he was going to drive his dad's 1953 DeSoto limousine with 7 of us to Woodstock and bring us back monday....radio and TV news reports by saturday morning had traffic jams and no food or water so our parents pulled the plug on that trip...but i still have the ticket and a dream...what if Peace WildBill p.s.....but we did see a lot of shows the next few years in that limo.
First big concert was Black Sabbath 'Sabotage' tour in Bristol, UK 1975 Colston Hall was an old opera type theatre with a huge balcony seating area. I was front center of the balcony and when everyone was stomping in time for an encore you could feel it bounce. I thought it might collapse! Worst ever live concert - same venue - Kraftwerk. I was into synth music. They never dimmed the house lights, had no interaction with the audience and just came on - played and left. Better off listening to the albums. Best supporting act? Queen! - Colston Hall (again) the 'back up band' for headliners Mott the Hoople. My guess is Mott really didn't want to go on stage after Queen blew the place away. The one that got away? Led Zeppelin at Knebworth, 1979. After the disastrous Pink Floyd show in 1975 (http://ukrockfestivals.com/75knebworth-floyd.html) I decided not to go again. Even though the reviews of the Zeppelin concert was mixed it would still have been epic and probably not plagued by the sound and tuning problems experienced by Floyd. It was reported that "noise complaints were received from 7 miles away" ha! Most fun concerts... the early Stonehenge festivals, but I really don't remember too much about them
I have shoeboxes full of ticket stubs from Cobo and Joe Louis starting from the early 80's. My friends dad worked for J.C. Penny and furnished the local radio station and TV network suites in Joe Louis, so he got full use of them when they were unoccupied. I lost my job at Taco Bell when I was 16 because I was told I better find someone to fill my shift If I wanted time off. It was worth it, Genesis was a great concert! I was born too late to see original Led Zeppelin but Page and Plant in The Firm was pretty good.
Ha Bill - I had a ticket too but early Friday morning this wave of people went up to the 10' chain link fence and pushed it over. No ticket required - they announced it was officially a free concert! Man, the 60's.
Another show I’d see if’n I had a time machine is the Second Atlanta International Pop Festival, Macon Ga July 3/4/5 1970. Allmans played twice. Hendrix played the Star Spangled Banner in the predawn hours of the 5th. Like Woodstock but in 100 degree Georgia summer. I forgot - I also missed out on the "Drop in the Park" concert. KISW was popping up in random places and giving out tickets. I was working on the loading dock at a dept store, where we got to keep the radio on. I heard them announce that they were on the other side of the mall. I could have went to get tickets, but told the guy I was working with to go ahead. I was scheduled to work and he was off. At least he got to go...
Not a huge concert but about 1979 I missed Sweet and Starz playing at a small place in northern Iowa. Lucas.....my son, brother, and I did see the Black Sabbath reunion tour with Pantera, it was awesome!
