No way this loss is on Brett. Most QB's would have been on the sideline on a stretcher after the beating he took today. It came down to a FG, and the Saints kicker made it....
They will be in the game in two weeks with Colts...No blow out....
Jason...You don't want to feel like I did 11 years ago, when we also beat the Vikings, and then lost to the Broncos. ( they were the best team, though) Just getting there is not enough.....
It was a great game, and as a Falcons fan, I still despise the Saints. BUT..This is their day. Enjoy it...

Now come on where the hell is the respect?!!!?!?

we're having too much fun heckling Favre? :Brow:

The last review of the catch / non-catch -- WEAK! How can the review guy not notice the ball moving around and hitting the ground while the receiver is trying to secure it? I really hate how often the review offical can still manage to blow a call after watching videotape 20 times.

yeah? if it's the one i'm thinking of, there was also helmet-to-helmet contact on that shot. in slo-mo, you could see the receivers chin strap come loose and his helmet almost came off. illegal hit to jar the ball loose.

i think the video reviewer just decided to call it a wash because if he calls a "no catch" he also needs to call the penalty.

The overthrown ball / pass interference call -- Iffy.

    agreed. PI was iffy.

however, Illegal Contact Downfield was a gimme. one of those two calls was getting made.

I don't think that was a cheap shot at Favre's knees -- illegal this year, just fine every year before it. Probably should have been called by today's rules, but didn't really affect the outcome of the game. Just a guy trying to make a tackle.

    yep. :beers2:

If Brett had taken the 10-15 yards he could have run for instead of throwing that ridiculous cross field pass (interception) from his back foot, The Vikings would be going to Miami.

He cost them the game with that arrogant play. Everybody knows you don't make that pass.

While everyone blames the interception at the end, the real fact is that we lost the game when we were taken out of field goal range by an incredibly stupid pentalty for having 12 men in the huddle, after a timeout.. no excuse for that at all. That's on the coaching staff.. Blame them if you want to place blame.

If that doesn't happen, we hand the ball off for maybe a couple yards, and Longwell gets the kick..(Longwell said this morning on the local radio that he could have made that 51 yard kick). He was drilling them easily from 52 yards in the pre-game warm up.

But the penalty made them have to throw it, and you live an die by Brett's arm, and we died last night. Without an incredible pass to Rice a couple plays earlier, we aren't even in that position. Brett's a competitor, and as was stated, most QB's that took a pounding like he did last night, would have been watching from the sidelines in the middle of the third quarter.. Gotta love a guy who plays for the love of the game, even when he's hurting. He made very few mistakes, and had a great year, all in all.

And let's face it, the Vikes are a 9-7 team, and miss the playoffs without him, no doubt about that.

That last pass should have never happened, and Brett had nothing to do with having too many men on the field.

Sitting there on the couch, I knew it was too good to be true, with 19 seconds left.. there had to be a catch, and there was.. I have been a Vikings fan too long not to understand that, and that's the way it goes.

The Saint's must be team of destiny, because football skill had very little to do with them winning that game. With 5 turnovers, we should have been out of it by the 4th quarter. The fact that we did everything we could to shoot ourselves in the foot, and were still in it at the end, in their house, is testimate to how good the 09 Vikes really were, and how mediocre the Saint's are. They had 77 yards offense from halftime to midway thru the 4th quarter..

The one thing I didn't like was the cheap shots at Farve, but I guess when you don't have the personel to play the game as it should be played, then you have to resort to that kind of stuff.

They better come up with something else against Manning, he gets rid of the ball to quick for that to work, and he will pick that Saint's defense apart.

I agree with you Jim. I knew it was over when I saw FOX's sideline reporter Pam Oliver standing behind New Orleans coach Sean Payton in the third quarter. She couldn't wait to interview the winning coach?

I also agree with what many have said about the refereeing, I think the NFL wanted the New Orleans story to be played out this year and their calls showed it.

Not only that, what about that last "stretch" TD that was actually down at like the 1 yard line. They probably would have scored anyway, but still it's not like they didn't get breaks too.

I don't think I've ever in my life seen an NFC championship game with so many fumbles. It was hideous.

Neither team played like they wanted to win. Only difference is Minn. played worse by treating the ball like it was a grenade.

This is my personal post game "opinion". :beers2:

That's the EXACT thing I said last night. I just coulnd't believe they didn't give it a shot. Things were going so wrong for them at that point they'd have been better off to attempt it.

My heart sunk when I saw all that open field and he mades a bonehead pass like that. I was routing for the Vikes but when I saw them basically playing "2001 ways to blow a football game" I was like forget it, I'd rather not see them win after all, as they didn't deserve it. Certainly all the fumbles weren't the coaches fault, or it never would have come down to a stupid 12 man huddle penalty, which was just the icing on the cake.

All this, and a loss by only a field goal.

I agree with your Colts prediction. If the Saints play even remotely like they did last night, they will be going back to the drawing board for the 36th time. :error:

There will ALWAYS be some controversy over Big Games in the NFL, but also quite a bit of waa waa waa from the losing teams & fans. :spank: But with that said, it does the soul good to vent ones pent up frustrations and release the stress levels within. Carry on y'all........ :pp Jim

Saints vs Colts will be a good game. AND Lord forbid we win, I can't wait to see the reason why we didn't deserve it.:Dou:

As a Colts fan all I can say is I am very happy they drew the Jets because the Chargers would have been tougher to beat. Jets were lucky to win that game. Also glad they get the Saints in the SB because it was apparant the Vikes were better but just made some dumb mistakes.

I never pulled for Brett when he was younger. But after getting older and being considered a has been I started pulling for him. Guess I have always pulled for an underdog. Watching him throw the pic against the Giants a couple years back hurt. Seeing his last game as a Jet end with a pic also hurt. All I wanted was him to finish strong. The Vikes didn't have to win as long as the QB didn't make a horrible mistake. So, when he threw that pic late in the 4th I fell off the couch and cussed at him. That was the old Brett and it came out when it usually did. Hated to see him go out like that AGAIN!

But, like stated above, you can't blame him. The game should have been over long before he forced the throw. If they wouldn't have gotten that 12 men in the huddle penalty they probably would have just run the ball too. Kicker apparantely was hitting 50+ kicks with ease all during warm-ups.

So, you Saints fans enjoy the SB. It's been a long wait and I hope it's fun for you. You know you lucked up so I don't have to tell you. Hope the Colts blow you out in the ocean in S. FL.

When Farve made that bonehead throw, all I could think about was how mad we in Philly would have been if the Eagles were playing and McNabb did the same thing.

Somehow, Farve gets a pass... I don't quite get it. Every time I see him play (admittedly, I don't see him play very much) he seems to make some rediculous throw that results in an interception. I guess this equates as genius

he's Brett mother-humpin Favre. he leads the league in interceptions all time. he kills his team in the playoffs with one single well ( poorly? ) timed throw at the end of the game. it's kind of expected.

I don't see it as WE lucked up. How about the other team just *&^%%ed up?
It was a very close game played by 2 good teams. :TU: Hell it went into OT. There were good and bad flags thrown for us( I just re watched the game. I mean come on!!) What is the saying, good teams find ways to win and bad teams can find ways to lose???? :Smarty: It all excuses..:bla: We were sooooo lucky that your star running back can't hold a ball. We were sooooo lucky that yout team can't count 12 men and make a mental error like that???? We were soooooo lucky cause Farve "didn't know how far they need to go"??????? Is that what great teams do?:Dou:
We aren't good-even though we're hosting the NFC championship.:moonu: We lucky cause we DIDN"T turn the ball over and over and over????Isn't that what a great team does??:puzzled: We knocked the old man down all night. :spank:
Brees didn't play at his top form that is all I can see bad about the game right now. :Do No: We'll see what the Colts bring. And if we lose by 30 people will talk smack, but personally my friends and I and I dare say the entire Gulf Coast will still be proud of or Saints, always have, always will:beer

I'm from the city of football disappointment. We've lost every stupid way you can. Now we aren't and no one can take the joy from us. I see now when you get to the top, people take weak shots. I guess I will need to develop thicker skin or wear my new long sleeved NFC CHAMPION shirt. MMMMM cooozy.........

Ha you're right. Wasn't his last play as a Packer an INT to lose the championship???
Wasn't his last play as a Jet last year an INT to kill any chance at the post season??
And well I got to see Farve throw his last play as a player last night for a INT. Anyway WHO DAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now bring on the ponies!!!!!!!!! :spank:

    StageTwo It's a Beauty Too.

I think they should loosen the rules for the Playoffs and let the players determine who wants it more. I love to watch those old football games from decades back. Those are some exciting games to watch on film. It's almost like the ball carriers were scared to have the ball.

I picked both the Saints and the Colts to win,I'll be drinking free beer the next three weekends at the watering hole thanks to my non believing pals.I'm a Carolina fan so I don't have a dog in this fight but I'm picking the Saints for the big game.Like the Blues Brothers, they're "on a mission from God".:beer

I must say I don't know if they will win, but I am routing for them anyway, because it would be nice to see them achieve this milestone.

Hopefully, if they do win, they won't trash Bourban St and flip cars like the moronic New England fans (of course, not meant for anyone here, unless you've taken part in that idiocy) do when their teams win. :puzzled:

How come Favre is afraid to run the football??:Do No: He could have easily ran for enough yardage to get them in field goal range but instead he makes a stupid across the field pass:mad::puzzled::confused:
