TurboTR here in Austin. I was fortunate to help Adi G. a little in getting the Mini Nats to River City Raceway (Now "San Antonio Raceway") last year. I'm down for getting another event there. I go to RCR alot, at least once a week on average so if I can help let me know.

I can ask, but you guys have a better idea of what you want so might have better results talking to them directly:

    San Antonio Raceway
    830-914-4646
    210-698-2310
    www.sanantonioraceway.com

If no luck there I think I still have the owner's cell number and could call him, or maybe talk to 'em next time out there. I'd need details of what you guys want though.

Hey todd I was out at Tim blessin's with mike hogan We were talking about local TR I brought your name up and they said they knew you. Are you in the middle of an engine rebuild or did you get it done. just curious. Mike said Most of the buick TR would be game if it was coupled with Houston and Dallas Groups.

Yes we've all known each other for over 10 yrs. Regal Perf is all good peeps. It coasted to a 9.x last time out after breaking a wrist pin about 1000' down <sigh>, so yes the mill is out right now. It should have had stronger than .150" wall pins in it. Next time will be at least .180" wall, maybe even .200" :) Hell just solid tool steel bars, lol...

I live in Texas and would love to see a local Skylark/GS club in my area (Lewisville-Denton) that is active. I check in on the lspbc website often, but most everyone has GN"s. Got rid of my T-Type but kept the Skylark. Just getting back into my cars and would love to see a club and an event very close to home since I don't get out much and my Skylark isn't what it use to be. Seguin might be a little far to go with it.

Looking for a group that has other women in it that are actually interested in their own cars, not just you fellas that wished there were women interested in you and your cars. Anyone know of such a group? If you do, please let me know!!!

Could you image a bunch of women cackling like hens as they look under the hood at their engines and discuss h.p., c.i.d., etc, etc?.:grin:

Hi Dee, Yes the local club in your area is the LSPBC, but were not just Turbo cars, were all Buicks!

Yes it is true that most of our active members have TR's but we do have members with GS's (check out the sig below) but they are not as active.?? We have lots of members like me that own both cars, it just seems everytime there is a meeting or an event they bring the TR instead for what ever reason.

But you and alot of other Skylark/ GS owners can change that by showing up with your Buicks and supporting the club!

I myself, if my wife doesn't attend the meeting Feb 8th, will be driving the GS!
I love both cars, they are Buicks to me no matter the model!

As far as female owners, there are only a handful and of course most of them are wifes of members.
The last outing the club had I would say about 25-30 showed up and at least 10 females.

I hope you will attend our meeting we would love to have you join us. BTW Bring your Buick.

Thanks for the reply David. Really nice GS clone and GN!!!

I'd like to get active in a local Buick group where there are other Skylark/GS owners because I am about ready to start my '70 clone. I know there was no such thing as a GS 350 Convt. but have most of the parts from my '70 GS 350 that match the interior of my convt. Don't have a lot of money, so I am looking for a lot of free help and advice.

I looked at some of the lspbc pictures and it really hurts to see all the beautiful GN's. I loved my T-Type and always wanted a GN. I got extremely sick when a lady friend here at work pulled up in an '87 GN with 85,000 miles on it. It's a beauty. I hate her!!!

My boyfriend is not into cars and thinks I'm nuts. After 10 years of my cars sitting, I'm getting back into them before they hit the point of no return (whether he likes it or not). I enjoy his hobbies, so maybe he'll start enjoying mine.

I'll have to check out your website more often and participate in your group. I know about your 3rd Sat. cruise night in Plano. That would be fun, but my Skylark doesn't look or run that great anymore. Do you ever have any events closer to the Denton-Lewisville area? What is your average age of membership or of participants in events? I would hate to show up to a meeting or event and be older or younger than most. You might see me on the group board begging for help. Warn everyone!!!!:eek2:

Dee, I see you Live in Denton County. I work for the state so i know how to locate citys and countys as this is part of my job. There are quite a few cars up in your area you may need to make contact with the Dallas group and join them. They are a mix of our Abody cars and the G bodys or in laymans terms (skylarks/GN). I know they are having a meeting on the 8th of february. Dallas guys help Dee out. Good luck on your Skylark conv/GSclone.

    Hi Phil!

Is the Dallas group not the LSPBC? I know there is a North
Texas Buick Club, but not mostly for A and G bodies. LSPBC is having a meeting on Feb. 8th. David Newton (see other replies) is a member of the LSPBC and looks like he is the Race Director for their group. I have their group board messages forwarded to my e-mail so I can keep up with what's going on in my area. If you know of any other groups in my area, please let me know. LSPBC looks like a pretty tight group with their events, etc. It's just a long drive over to the Plano area for my old 'Lark.

Thanks for the info. and support.

I understand about the drive. Is this your only transportation. If not You may opt to use the other to see the guys in dallas. Yes this is the only group in your area. But hey you have a group to visit. I am trying to make plans to see everyone on february 8th I will most likely be accompanied by my wife. But We will commute in are primary driver a little honda civic. My skylark made a 1600mile trip to texas from california in 2000.

Wow 1,600 miles? My Skylark hasn't seen that many miles in years! This isn't my primary driver, but was about 7 years ago. That's why it doesn't look good like it did.

I've got 4 cars of my own and my boyfriend has his truck. We can get to Plano but would like to drive the Skylark because that's the best way to meet the Buick crowd. Also, the "city" drive scares me! I'm more of a country girl and highways and city intersections scare me to death.

Just in case you're interested, here's a list of my cars:
    1) 2000 WS6 Convertible
    2) 1989 T-Bird Super Coupe
    3) 1979 Z28
    4) 1970 Skylark Convertible

I'm trying to get the Z28 back up and running right now. Had it 20 years this year, so it deserves some work. Got a guy from Denton helping me out on it.

I've had the Skylark 15 years this year. It runs okay, looks okay, but there's always something small going on with it. Took it out Monday, but with a quick check under the hood, I saw anti-freeze. Looks like it came from the line between the water pump and the thermostat. Wiped it up, drove it, parked it, leak didn't come back. Hummm. Also, got a gas leak on the fuel line connection to the carb. A buddy of mine did a rebuild years ago and must have cross threaded it. Wondered why there was teflon tape on there. LOL... Went to put the top down for the first time in about 7 years. Hit the button, heard the sound, no movement. Then I heard what sounded like a line blow off. Got the top down and had a hard time putting it back up. Anyone good with convt. tops? With all this, it's still the only car that's never let me down. Over the years, I've probably had 10 different Skylarks. Kept my wrecked GS for over 10 years hoping to restore it. Finally gave it up a couple of years ago, after towing it around with me forever and after pulling the good parts off.

Sorry so lengthy. After you've been away from the car stuff for a while, it's fun to talk to others that are into what you're into.:TU:

    Chris Lott 4 speed finally

Sounds like a very good start Dee. Any way you can post some pictures of it? I'm sure if you could make it to Plano or down here we could get someone to go over it with a fine-tooth comb and draw up a list of things that are important to be replaced, and things that are less important but would be improvements. There aren't too many cars out there that look very good, I appreciate a diamond in the rough. If you can just get the motor rebuilt enough to be reliable, I'm sure making it to a few of the meets wouldn't be a problem.

I know there are some of our members that race at the Denton track and there are some cruise nights in Lewisville.
Average age in the club is hard to say our youngest member is probably 18 and out oldest is about 75, so it's a wide range, but the core is 30-50. I am 40.
It will be great to see ya on the board.

Take care and see ya on the 8TH.

If I may take this question from Phil, yes the LSPBC is the Dallas group, but the N Tx BCA club is also in this area.
They are mostly older Buicks 30's-60's but they do have some nice 70's, 80's and even 90's cars in there club. I can put you in touch with there club as well if you would like.

I shouldn't be so hard on my Skylark. It does run pretty good for having sat up for a while. It's just the small things are that are irritating. The motor and trans. are good. I did a lot of work to it about 10 years ago and it ran really good. The main thing is getting it warmed up because of the choke doesn't work and smells like it's running kinda rich.

I've got new parts for it that I haven't put on. New grill (yes, still new in the box), battery tray, stuff like that. Would love to see the GS hood, buckets and console in it. My shifter got broke in the GS accident, so I need a new one or just part of it, and a little piece broke off the air cleaner. I even have the new foams for it somewhere. Got an extra rear bumper, fenders, etc. It's a straight car except I'm getting the little rust spots on the doors and some bad bondo behind one door.

I'd like to go to the Plano 3rd Sat. events, but would like to get to know someone that would be there so we wouldn't be standing around looking like idiots. Like I said before, my boyfriend does not appreciate cars and doesn't like to talk about them much less be lost at a "CAR EVENT".

I don't have a computer at home, but will try to scan some pictures in when the boss isn't looking. I've got some pictures of my other cars on this site. It's down quite a bit though.

    David,
I'll ask her about wanting to meet other Buick people. Her family is into cars and her son and husband does beautiful custom graphic paint work. They're into all sorts of cars but don't think they are interested in any one type of vehicle. I'll recommend the lspbc website to her.

Like to hear that the main part of your members are within my range (36 but don't tell).

How often do you guys attend the Cracker Barrel event in Lewisville and go to the track north of Denton? Both those places are close to home and do-able for me.

The show at Cracker Barrel is the first Sat of every month, I believe it starts in April, it is put on by the Mustang club, a few of the members including myself usually make this show.

The Denton track is a little further than I like to go on a Friday night because the traffic is so bad. The club has a 2nd Friday race night that started out in Denton, a few years ago but is mostly now either Redline or Kennedale. But there are still members that go to Denton from time to time.
There is also the Muscle Car Challenge events, there will at least be one in Denton this year.

I'm in San Antonio too. I'm about 30-40 minutes from Rivercity Raceway(the track in Seguin) I'm working on having the Riv at least mostly restored by my wedding in june so we can drive away in it after the wedding just like my parents did over 30 years ago. But it'd still be cool to see a bunch of Buicks before then. Keep us updated!
