    Hey Brien,

Good Questions. I went with alky because of space. A good adjustable alky kit can do (for the most part) what an intercooler does. A properly adjusted alky kit will make pump 91 to 93 octain gas seem like 110 octain. It also only pumps when it's under boost (preset by you) Mine is set so it comes on at 3 1/2 to 4 psi. So far I've only used about 15 cents worth of alky...... It's going to be very cheap to run.

Another deciding point was cost. The alky kit was 300 bucks. It installed in under an hour. A good inter cooler would have ran me at least 800 bucks (sheetmetal). I would have then spent about 8 to 10 hours installing, and possibly cutting my car (which I didn't want to do). I probably would have installed alky on top of the intercooler anyway...... I just thought I'd give just the alky a go........ I'm pretty sure it's going to work nicely.

As for an intercooler kit for our cars, I don't think Mike has been working on one just yet.........

    Ok guys,

    The tunning continues.......

ATI is sending me yet another larger pulley. This time it's a 385. This should put my boost at around 8psi at night or when it's cooler. Durning the day, it should be around 5. I think this will be about right factoring in I'm sitting at 5000ft.

SMC Enterprizes is also sending me a smaller nosel for the alky. This will allow me to turn the pump speed up and have it atimize better than it is now (slightly bogging at times).

The jetting seems really close possibly a hair rich. 80's in the front and 94's in the back. the front power valve port has been drilled out .003 to allow more fuel without having it too rich for normal driving.

I built the cold air intake over the weekend also. I have some header wrap to keep it a bit cooler also. I still have to build an alum plate that sills off the inter fender from the engine compartment......... Hopefully I can do that this weekend.

I feel pretty confident I'll be able to G-tech it this coming weekend. I should be able to post some close times then.

Here's the cold air intake I fabed up out of sewer pipe. (it was the tightest 4" bend I could find.....................

The pipe to the front of the car, is using the old "ramair box" cold air duct I had setup to get more cool air to the charger filter.

Not the best looking pipe in the world, but it should be alot better than having the filter sit over the header. Hopefully header wrap makes it look a bit better :)

the larger 385 pulley is on, and the Cold Air Intake is rapped in header rap....... I think it looks a TON better now.

Just waiting on the smaller alky nosel to run some tests. Hopefully tomorrow night it will be a go..............

    Ok Fellas........

I finnally ran the car through all 3 gears. It's still got someing tuning to do FOR SURE, but the times according to the G-tech are a full 1.1 second better with 6psi. It was 90 or so degrees out, and the car was driven a good gaunt to run it. The time was 12.31 at 114.4 with a 1.9 60ft time.

Keep in mind, this is at 5000ft, and it's the first run since the blower was installed. It's a bit on the rich side. I'll be stepping it down 2 sizes all the way around. This was also with my 200 lb buddie (Chad) in the car (total weight with both of us 4375lbs).

I'm more that sure it's got an high 11 in it (in the heat) with a bit more tunning. I'll let you all know what droping the jets does for it.

It's still pretty amazing to me that 6psi (on pump gas) can take a 4000+ lbs car and make it gain over 1 second :TU:

Sealevel correction would be around 11.5 ish (in the heat) as it sits now with little to NO Tunning!!! Not to shabby at all for PUMP GAS!!!

    Pump gas & alky....?

Im very interested in how your project works out as I can seriously see myself following the same path in about 8-12 months. $8k+ over the last year into my car so another $4k for a blower might not go well! .... Needless to say money and the wifes patience are going to have to catch up with my ideas for the car! hehe
The reason Im posting is I have a couple questions. I know I read a post on your motor build up and compression so I expect to have similar results. I was wondering about the pump gas and alcohol injection. Are you running premium? How badly has this affected your fuel economy (I know, probably havent had a chance to find out and besides--- who cares about fuel economy?)
Also, how does the fuel injection work? How much does it eat up? Ive never dealt with it and would prefer to keep away with it if possible. If I swapped heads and dropped compression perhaps I could do just that?
Whatever you do PLEASE KEEP US POSTED--- VERY EXCITING PROJECT!

    Re: Pump gas & alky....?

    Hi,

Yes the Car is running Premium fuel (91 octain here). As for the fuel consumption, while driving it normally, it's a little worse than normal, but I have it on the rich side to so it's expected. Once it's tuned in, I would think it would be about the same under normal driving conditions. Now getting after it is a different story. When your foots in it, you can almost watch the gauge drop.

It uses very little alky, a little bit goes a long way. I'm still working on findign the nosel that best complements the system.

As for your fuel injection quesiton, I'm not sure I follow. The only inkection I'm running is alky. Other than that, its blowing through the carb.

If you swapped your head and dropped the compresson on your motor, you could run more boost! I've thought about doing that, but my heads are too nice to just set aside. I'll just have to live with the 6 PSI I'm seeing now, and build something down the road that can take a TON of boost

    Amazing results for no tuning.

Well, It's getting better. I've built the alum pieces that sill off the air filter from the engine bay. I also steped down the jets 2 sizes on all 4 corners. The timing was also bumped up 2 degrees to 31 (total).

We went to G-Tech it last night and lowed response was deffenalty alot crisper. The 60ft time was 1.85 (best ever on the nittos) and was well on the way to an high 11 run until the "Noise" started.

We took it home, put it on the lift and found a cracked stock flex plate :) . I called JW this morning, he's shippign me out an SFI he had kicking around the shop 2nd day air so I can get to the drags on Friday :TU:

The car felt alot better with this tune!!!! Acording to the EGT, I'm sure I could lean it out a bit more, but I think I'm leaving it where it is until I can get a WideBand for tuning (just to be on the safe side).

If all goes well, I should see some Really low 12's to high 11's at the track on Friday with this tune

    Can't wait.

    EGT

    Rich,

How are you testing the EGT?

What will you use to test O2?

Good luck this weekend at the drags!

This is a very interesting thread, keep us posted Rich. I'm curious to hear what kind of times this car pulls at the track with this tuning... :Brow: :TU: Nice job Rich. :TU: :beer

    Re: EGT

The EGT is an "exhaust tempature gauge). From what I under stand, a properly tuned car with the sensor in the primary tubes will run in the 1300 degree range. My sensor is down by the colector so the gases are going to be somewhat cooler by then. However, my headers are coated inside and out so it should retain some of the heat better. The mounting point of the EGT prob beign down there is the reason I'm wanting to stay in the 1100 degree range (I feel it's a safe area to be in).

The WideBand Setup will be a totally differnt deal. It will give me Air fuel ratio's across the RPM rage and will allow me to tune it in really close.

Thanks for the wish of luck..... I'm really hoping for a 12.1 or better on this tune, and it sure feels like it's there. If I can pull it off in 90 degree plus weather, it will be a pretty good feat.

    Wideband

    Thanks Rich,

Whose wideband setup will you use Edelbrock?
