    Ok Guys,

This kit is cool. I had about an hour of time today, and had it all bolted on :TU: I ran into one issue that's going to keep me from getting boost until (this weekend). The KB CoolRunner intake and the D1SC carbs hat didn't like eachother in the hood clearance department. The D1's hat is 1/2 inch taller than the P1.

The main issue is the KB intake has a flat carb pad. If it had the 5 degree slope to it like most intakes, I wouldn't be having clearance issues. Anyway, the intake is coming off tomorrow and going to the machine shop on Thursday. Hopefully they can mill the pad to a 5 degree slope and have it back to me by the weekend. If that's the case, boost is a few days away.

The kit is very thought out and easy to bolt on especally if your fuel system is already taken car of. I'd have to say it's easier than sticking N20 on the car.

Anyway, I'll have some pic's...(need to resize them) and I'll post them once the intake is taken care of.

    Getting closer!!

I hope the shop doesn't mill a sloppy 5 degree slop. If they do they may be on the slippery slope!

    Having too much fun!

    Why

    Rich,

Why would one hat be taller than the other?

    Re: Why

David, the bigger the charger, the more CFM it puts out. With more air flow, you need a bigger opening to push it through. The D1's air intake opening is 3 1/2 inches verses the P1's 3 inch. This is where the extra 1/2 of clearance is. The hat has to be 1/2 inch taller to make up for the 3 1/2 inch opening.

    Box

    Rich,

Could you have used a carb enclosure box like Vortec sells to reduce the hood clearence issue?

According to what I have read, there is more clearance issues with vortechs box than with the carb hat. If I had a SP1 on my car, I don't think I would have any issues even with the D1's larger hat.

Hey Rich, I'm sorry if you've already said but I didn't read. Is this going to be intercooled?? Water or air to air??

I'm replacing intercooling with a boost sinsitive alky injection. I'm using the kit a lot of the Turbo Buick guys are using with great results (SMC). I'm planing on having the alky start pumping at about 4psi. It should cool the burn down and act like an intercooler.

As you can see, if the intake had some slope (aka slop :) ), I wouldn't be having any clearance issues. It's the fact that the carb hat is sticking straight out that's hurting it. Hopefully tomorrow night I'll some more pics of the finnal install with the intake work done.

As for the Air intake being right over the header (you gota love that), I'll be fabbing up a Cold air intake that seals up the front portion of the drivers side fender. I will then stick the Filter back behind it so it's sucking cooler outside air. I'll also use this piece of Alum to hang the Alky system on.........

More to come. Getting very excited now. :beer

Looks eff'n BAD A$$!!, Rich. I'm scared to ask, but if you don't mind, when you get the time maybe you can show a cost breakdown for a project of this magnitude.:Dou:

So your carb didn't sit level on intake??

I can't tell, do (did) you still have power steering?

    11SecondGS ROCK THIS

    question

Are you going to have to rig an air intake off the k&N filter to suck fresh air, or is what you have enough?

Keep the plans for that bracket, I have a feeling there will be others wanting your setup.

Looks good, I have been following this for over a year now. Results look good.

The Carb mounting flange on the KB intakes are machined flat (they don't slope downward towards the front of the car). If you look at the picture that show's the hat sticking above the fender line, you can see exactly what I'm talking about. The carb hat stays on a level plain with the gound. It's not following the downward slope of the fenders as it should. I believe most inakes have about a 5 degree slope to them.

As for the price.......... Well with the alky kit, fuel system upgrades, gauges, SFI balancer, and the charger stuff, I'm sure it's around the 4k mark I haven't counted the receipts yet, and I've just been accuiring things little by little so it really didn't seem that bad through the process.

The best thing about it, is it can be transfered to any 455 I ever build. It's a power upgrade for life
