Thanks Rich Thank you for your assistance in getting pics and videos on the board. What do you think of combo, install and power numbers. We just jetted the 850 with 84s in front and 86s in back with 6.5 power valves and this netted at 10.8 air fuel ratio. My understanding is that this is rich, but safe. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Currently Ron's Custom Autobody is fabricating a stage 2 hood for car and then I will be relocating air filter to pick up cold air.
Re: Thanks Rich No Problem David. I think it's a cool setup. I still lean towards the ATI carb hat over the Vortech Box tho (I dont' have to remove anything for float adjustments, jet changes, or to fix fuel isses with the bowls or metering blocks). I also like the way ATI's chargers are self contained so you don't have to route any Oil Feed lines to the charger. One can't gripe about the numbers thats for sure :TU: . I think your motor started off a lot healther than mine before boost (especally where I did all the port work). One thing that makes me scrach my head a bit is the very LARGE Torque number down low. I woldn't think that a Turbo / centrifical motor would Peek that low then loose 100 ftlbs or so and start making it up again on the big end. I have seen some dyno runs where a cluch slips (standard) or the torque conver flashes, and it sends a HP / Torque miss reading to the dyno screen...... Is it possible that happened when you were on the dyno? It would be way cool of you could send me the dyno sheet so I could see the numbers. Very impressive tho, and the car will look sweet with the stage2 hood .
torque numbers Rich, What I was saying is that it was producing 771 lbs of torque to wheels at 3200 rpm and when it was shut down at 4500 rpm the torque only declined to 600 lbs of torque, but that the engine horsepower was really starting to build at that point.
I guess it just seems weird to me that it would loose 170ft lbs in a 1.2 rpm range........ I'm just trying to make since of it is all. Did you dyno the car before the charger install? If so, did it drop like it does with the blower on the car? Hopefully when I'm in Vegas in Oct, I can stick mine on the dyno to get some numbers as well........ I know it won't be touching the 771ft mark...... Rich
dyno numbers The car dynoed at 514 lbs of torque prior to blower set up. I don't know if not having a blower cam ( I have the Hemi Killer cam with 110 lobe center) would be the reason for the torque drop off. I would imagine that would be the reason, but the numbers are still great. I will try to get dyno sheets scanned in but I can list some numbers for you here. This kind of gives you an idea. Remember that this pull was only until 4500 rpm due to oil leak. I think not having blower cam is why torque falls so quickly, but it is still a massive curve that will easily support 10 second ets at only 5 lbs of boost. speed rpm Power torque vacBoost mph 51 2378 157.8 348 -4.7 52 2436 198.8 429 -3.0 53 2494 226.3 476 -2.7 55 2552 249.3 514 -2.3 56 2610 262.2 528 -0.6 57 2668 278.6 548 0.4 58 2726 303.4 585 0.8 60 2784 332.3 627 1.1 61 2842 351.7 650 2.0 62 2900 371.9 674 2.3 63 2958 396.1 703 2.6 65 3016 414.3 722 3.1 66 3074 431.1 737 3.5 67 3132 448.1 751 4.0 68 3190 464.4 765 4.2 70 3248 476.6 771 4.4 71 3306 481.6 765 4.4 72 3364 482.6 754 4.4 73 3422 483.6 742 4.4 75 3480 487.4 736 4.5 76 3538 491.0 729 4.5 77 3596 493.5 721 4.5 78 3654 495.1 712 4.6
hood Did you cut the hole in the hood before or after the nice paint job? I have 2 coats of base and 3 coats of clear and don't know how to cut the hole for the stage 2 scoop with out screwing up the paint job, can anyone help? Chris
hole in hood It's too bad you guys cant see the job that done. I could not have asked for better paint and body work. The customer service is also great. Skip made every effort to satisfy whatever requests were made by me. I would recommend his shop to anyone wanting show quality work. Thank you Skip. Tell Dan thank you as well for driving the car, although I am sure he cant be complaining about that too much.
Thanks for the kind words, Dave. I am sure he can't believe he was actually paid to drive that car. It was our pleasure to help a kick-ass car like that look as good as it runs. Keep us up to date when you take it to the track.
Man what a MONSTER!!! I never got enough RPM's to build boost and it was still a scary ride! For all that power, the car was remarkably streetable, much to my surprise... Oh, Dave, I got 2 "Nice Car!" and 1 idiot in a chevy who wanted to race (I didn't) on the way there. Lots of rubber necking to check out the car as well. And I have NO complaints about being paid to drive the car  Dan Peper
thanks Thank you Dan. I greatly appreciated the help in getting the car home although I don't think you would have needed more that half throttle to kill anybody that you might come up against. Thanks again for all the help and the beautiful work. David
Rich, You mentioned a Halo Girdle for your motor. Would you expound on that a little? Like who makes it, hows it go on, can you use a stock oil pan, do you machine the caps? Any info and maybe a picture would be greatly appreciated. I have a 455 with a turbo on it and I am pulling the motor to replace some ruined cam bearings and drop the compression about .5-.7 of a point. Also, what event is in Vegas in October? Thanks Brent PS Where in Utah are you located?
Hey Brent, I'm in the UT County area...... I don't have any pics of the halo setup yet........ When it starts going together this week, I'll start posting some pics. It will not work with the stock pan...... The girdle would hit the front of the pan behind the balancer. Dave DeHabey (260)490-4206 is the guy that's made the halo girdles / kits for the 455's. The kit comes with a Stef's pan, pickup, studs, girdle, and all the mounting hardware for 650.00 bucks. As I start installing mine, I will post pics. The Vegas event is the "West Coast Nationals" there should be lots of turbo buicks as well as about 20 to 30 V8 cars there. It's Oct 3rd and 4th. What part of UT are you in?
I have some pictures of the halo girdle on my site. It does not require machie work to the engine, but does require a different oil pan for clearance. Jim Burek P.A.E. ENTERPRISES
:jd: :jd: :jd: I knew Skip did beautiful work but DAM!!! That looks a lot better than beautiful. Good job Skip, and awesome ride David. Michael
hood Michael, Thank you for the compliment. If you have any questions about set up, give me a call at 619-460-0657. I will be at La Mesa car show tomorrow if you want to check out car in person. I would be interested to see your ride as well. Give me a call David
