Ya know, this thread is getting really long so, anyway back to the first question I asked, no I will not be having a supercharger on my 455. My compression is now more than I expected at 12.5:1. I have got nitrous instead. (Wish I would have done the ProCharger) Once my heads get back from the flow bench I will try to get this thing running on Feb 15th. Man, it has has been a long, painful and slow process.

To make a long story short.. run LOW comp. with a blower!!!

For sure you could have a blown 11.5:1 engine (or even more!). But with cyl. heads like those, that comp. ratio, and the Dommy carb, personally I think you made the right choice going with nitrous. For whatever that was worth.... :Do No: :Dou: Just MY opinion..... FOR SURE the nitrous is cheaper to add!!!!

But the supercharger IS a VERY COOL add-on...MUCH MORE SO than nitrous IMO!!!, provided you can afford both the kit AND ALL the mods required to run with THAT combo (High Compression, Sewer Tunnel-like Alum. heads, and Dom.)!!

Done RIGHT, the supercharger add-on with 11.5:1 or more compression( this would REQUIRE a LARGE INTERCOOLER, a VERY GOOD Ignition System with some built-in timing retard, AND race gas), T/A Stage 2 heads (with Stage 2 T/A heads you would prolly want a LARGER CFM blower >>>>MORE MONEY!!!!<<<< than Rich's D-1 to take ADVANTAGE of the SUPERIOR FLOWING HEADS!), and the 1050 Dominator carb (probably EXTENSIVELY re-worked also!), you would have to run VERY LOW boost levels to avoid BUSTING the Buick block, or throwing the rods, or SLAMMING the crankshaft THRU the pavement!!!

SURELY, the HP and Torque would be TOO HIGH! requiring either EVERY bottom-end upgrade known to 455's, or JB's NEW AFTERMARKET BLOCK!

    (Borrowed from ATI's web site)
But it would be VERY difficult to do on anything less than a DEDICATED race car, AND WOULD DEFINETLY REQUIRE A WHOLE LOT OF MONEY!!!:eek2:

I think ATI's philosophy (IN MOST CASES), is to have compression set between 9 and 10:1,
    INTERCOOLED,......

(We're talking about a LOOOW 10-sec. high 9:)Do No: ) car here!! One that the WHOLE CAR, chassis, suspension, cage, fuel system, fitting of the LARGE intercooler.... ect. ect. ect. would need to be built just to HANDLE this much power!!!!!!!:Brow:  )

and CRAM AT LEAST 10psi, but as high as 14psi into her!!:Brow:  :TU: :3gears: :3gears:

I don't remember... how did you deal with the Power Steering Pump????:Do No: :Do No:

Did you stick with the stock pump and fab a bracket? Or just go Manual?

    Hey Jeff,

I'm still waiting for the PS pump bracket....... I'm had my PS box in a loop doing the manual gig since the installl. From what I hear, the original pump is going ot hang off a brack behind the Charger.......... There's lots of room there so it's very possible. Hopefully I have it soon and can post some pics.

    11.5:1 Compression on Supercharger

Well Grant455GS, at least you are one person out there who think boost can be run on a high compression motor. About 3 months ago we put 898.8 HP to the rear wheels with our 468 Chevy. (Got the dyno sheet and a video to prove it) It has 11.5:1 with 15 lbs of boost. Yes it is on alcohol but when alcohol is only $1.90 a gallon it is not that expensive. I feel we have a little left in the motor as we are going to add about 15% nitro next time and hope to get 1050+ to the rear wheels. The sad thing is that there is about half as much money in the chevy than in the 455 I have.

You can run as much compresion you want with boost, you just have to have the octane to support it. Or better yet, GET AWAY FROM THAT PARTS WASHING CRAP AND SWITCH TO ALCOHOL !!!

Oh, and by the way 65sky, the Buick is a stage 2, and no, no boom will happen!!!

Do you have to be running boost for it to work (ie, does your engine need to be supercharged/turbo'd/etc)? It would be sweet if you could have it kick in at a certain rpm along with (nitrous maybe?). Have a double cooling effect.

The D1SC (like mine) is going to be more than the base price shown on the website. Your best bet is to send mike and email, as I'm not sure of a phone number to reach him at......\

I beleave you can reach Mike at 770-377-3215.

Rich, I decided to do away with my power steering set up and go with Flaming Rivers manual steering box. Price is $495 through Summit Racing AND I'll save 45lbs. of weight on the front end.

Hey Rick, once it's on, let me know how you like it...... and how it is to turn..... I like to hit the twisties (autoX) so I'm curious as to how a manual box would do under thos circumstances. Let me know once it's installed :TU:

Yes, it is boost sisitive. I personally don't see any benifit of running alky with N2O. You will get much more cooling out of the N2O than the alky would ever dream about........ the only good that would come with it is the added "octain" rating. You may be able to rig a kit up that's tied in with your N2O system so it's only pumping while it's straying............ thus keeping you from having to run spendy fuel all the time..... Just a thought, nothing that I've played with....

    Hey Guys,
Just for your information, you don't need to go buy a 495.00 flaming river manual box to drop 45 lbs. A manual box out of a 82-93 S10 bolts right in (pitman arm and all) and you can find them at any salvage yard for $50.00 all day long.

I just wonder how many of those a person would have to go through before he found one that wasn't wore out with slack.

No disrespect but I think I would prefer to buy a new one that came with a manufactures warrenty. I like haveing the peace of mind knowing it's new........

Does it actually spray acohol into the manifold/etc or does it jacket the intake/etc to pull heat from it? And would it work w/o any kind of a power charger? It sounds like something neat that would scare away more than a few ricers...

    Riceboy-"What's that?!"
    Me-"Alcohol injection."
    Riceboy-"Forget about that race later on..:ball: "
    Me-"Hehe. :Brow: "

Yes it does actually mist alky into the boost stream... I'm not sure how it would work on say a "roots" style blower since alky is typicaly hard on things. It's very possible it would damage the roots style blower.
