Yep, they were done with the first set of rockers.
What's harder to see is the little clearance between the spring retainers, and the inside of the rockers....WOW!

.....and that cam button.....what a treat that is to set the clearance on...

Haydn brought his car into the shop yesterday, and started getting the engine ready to remove.
We are still waiting for a new water pump from TA Performance, and we need the oil pan, intake, and valve covers from his current engine.
Looking for new spark plugs for this engine....any opinions? (Higher compression, higher heat)
    Best oil filter?
And how much transmission fluid would we need to add, if just pulling the converter out, and replacing with JW's 9.5"?

The trans when completely empty plus TQ convertor takes about 10 qts. I have used NGK UR5 on the motor and NGK YR5 for using nitrous I have 10.6 compression. I like the NGK plugs they work very good. Pour some in the TQ convertor when installing and that will help keep the pump from running on the dry side when starting. You may only need 4 qts for the TQ convertor.

Does this mean everything else is assembled and degreed in except the stuff from the other engine that needs to go on the new engine?

If so, good deal! Should be ready to run in about a week possibly? SWEET! Even for Canada you will still have a couple weeks of decent weather after its in, awesome!

Yes, we are just waiting for a new HP water pump from TA Performance...it was shipped yesterday, and should be in our hands soon.
Cam is degree'd, rockers are set, nothing to touch on the oil pump, as it's a completely new front cover, and pump from TA Performance.
Haydn pulled the old engine out pretty much by himself, and will be sending the valve covers, and oil pan out for a cleaning, before they are installed on the new engine.
We kept the oil pickup off, so the engine could be bagged easier, while we wait for the old parts to be cleaned. The oil pan on the new engine was dented, so we pulled the pan from the engine that was in his car...I sent Sean a couple pictures of what Haydn found in the oil pan of the old engine, and a side by side picture of both engines.

Yes, Haydn is very excited to be doing this before the end of the season.

The biggest problem we can see for upcoming issues are the header bolts for the centre pipes...wow were they ever a complete P.I.T.A to remove!

We picked up NGK plugs on Saturday...I don't remember what model they were though, but the fella said for 10.6:1 compression, gap them at 0.032" (even with the MSD ignition.)

And thank you for the information on the torque converter.

You can just about weld with the MSD spark! I would think a larger gap, maybe .045 would be the ticket.

Don't listen to the guy at the parts store, just have them get you your parts. :)

So one of the engines...the old one pulled from the car, does not have a windage tray, whereas the block that we used for the stroker build, has one....should we use it?
Haydn tried to install it, but the most rear studs don't allow it to move back far enough to bolt it down to the block...should we clearance it for the stud nuts, and use it, or leave it off completely?

I was able to use mine with the main studs installed, I would try and make it work if you can. Especially without a crank scraper.

New fuel tank is different than the old tank....
Looks like the new tank takes a fuel sending unit that bolts onto the tank, and not lock in place with a ring.
It also has an extra opening on top...???
Stock tank had a vent line on each top front corner, and another one in the middle.
New tank only has a single vent connection, and a hose connection for the filler neck.

Carefully cut off the old filler neck from the old tank, and weld it to the new one???
Or use a silicone hose, and hose clamps?

Have not tried to remove sender unit from old tank yet, as it's "soaking" in Kroil.

Ok....old sender unit out...won't work with new tank, as the new tank is for an EFI style setup...has one 5 bolt hole, and another bigger 6 bolt hole...so, we had to order a new floatless fuel level sender unit from "Tanks INC"

Set backs delays and unforeseen incidences, sorry to hear you're still having an up hill battle! :(

Sounds like you may have the engine installed and are trying to hook up the fuel system to get her running, is that where you're at? If so oh so close, I can't wait to hear how she runs.:)

Are you planning on running one of the new throttle body fuel injection systems? Or were you just having problems with the old tank?
