Finally had time to get some work done on the engine.
Laid some Play-Doe on top of the piston on cylinder one, to check for piston/valve clearance.
Valves seem bigger than the valve reliefs on the intake relief.
Still has about 0.0945" BEFORE the valve even gets to the relief, so that's ok/good to go.

With our custom adjustable pushrod...this is what we did:

-Heads are not machined yet. We cc'd the chamber on #1, and it measured 57cc's.
-Don't have used head gaskets, so we used a bunch of 0.030" valve spring shims looped overtop of the head studs.
-***Head gaskets are 0.040" crushed, shims are only 0.030", so we are 0.010" shy of the overall length, BUT, the heads have to be resurfaced at least 0.010", so it's a wash.***
-installed head studs, and put the 0.030" shims over them.
-set head down onto shims, and installed washers and nuts. Just snugged them down so the head would not move at all.
    -installed our custom pushrod.
-installed our new 1.65 roller rocker set, and tightened them down.
-verified lifter was on the base circle, and began spinning the pushrod, and rocking the rocker arm, until there was no more movement detected in the rocker arm. (Very soft springs installed on intake and exhaust valves.)
-removed everything, and pulled the pushrod out, being careful not to bump, or move any of the lock nuts or halves.
-skip ahead, both intake, and exhaust pushrods measured 9.050" (9.0465" actually, but in the book, 9.050" is what we should order.)

-gonna order up a set of pushrods tomorrow from TA Performance. I think the 5/16" chromoly pushrods should be good enough....any thoughts?

Ivan, that should do it. Mine are 9.050. Think the new TA's should be .080 wall thickness too.
That stiffens them, eliminating the need for 3/8".

    Looked at the measurements again....
They actually measured 9.0165"....and I added 0.030" for lifter preload.
If they have to take 0.020" off the heads, we are still good to go!

Well, so much for using photobucket as an image link.
No damn way am I paying a minimum of $100.00/year, just to post pictures.

I read their new agreement, and the free accounts are now limited to 2gigs, and no image sharing links...$50.00/year you still get no image links...

    Sorry everyone....no more pictures.

Missed the call on Thursday to pick everything up...I think they forgot they were balancing it....or maybe it was a slow week...
But they said come pick it up!
Long weekend though, so if my son gets off work early enough, we will go pick it up today.

Well...picked everything up, except the heads.
They wanted to check with me to see what type of valve stem seals we were going with, before they cut the guides, and spring pads. (Inner rounded edge that the inner spring sits on has to be removed for the springs to sit flat on the heads.)
Everything is balanced now as well. (It was a slow week for them.)
Picked up a set of ARP flex plate bolts, and a Ford 460 rear seal as well.
Next set of days off will be busy!

    I read it awhile ago.

    Thanks Sean!

Very small update....the shop has the heads.....ALMOST done....they got to the last valve, and couldn't find the retainer...
So since they can't find it in their shop, and my son and I only had the heads on our assembly table, and the shop bench...there wasn't too many places to look for it.
So I had to order 1 TA Performance 1450 retainer today, and have it shipped.

.......I hope this thing runs smoother than the rebuild itself.....

Looks like your thread on the rear main install instructions went bye-bye.... I keep getting an error.

    Sent you a text Sean.
    No rush.

Scored a new powder coated fuel tank last night on Facebook of all places...local to us too, $80.00! (From Tanks)
Now to get a sump welded to it, and finish getting it ready for the new fuel system.
