I certainly hope people don't think that was my motivation............perhaps I should have indicated that in my original post. I did not mean it in a sarcastic way, I was 100% serious........

Perhaps what offends me is not the term itself, but the fact that it is hypocrytical to say that we are trying to keep this board family friendly on one hand, going so far as to delete posts that are deemed to be "off color"...........

But then on the other hand we allow members to repeatedly use a dirty word........personally, I don't care what we call people from Massachussets, (spelling?) you can even use the F word.........I just think our policies should be consistant.

I was not being sarcastic, and I'm sorry for ruffling some feathers here.......sometimes I am just a little too outspoken about things. :Dou:

I didn't mean that in a bad way Joe. :)
And didn't intend to infer you did something wrong, I agree with you.

It really doesn't bother me what that group wants to refer to themselves as when they are together.

But to keep things consistant, perhaps they should not use that term of endearment on the board.

Amen Brother... if you think I want to make rules, delete posts, and have to spend ANY time worrying about any of this.. you would be wrong, and I shouldn't have to. None of this should be an issue.

You and me both.. The mod forum used to be a ghost town.. rarely ever used.. now it's buzzing.. what's up with that? And no, it's not because we have gotten nuts with the moderation of the board, it's because of the input we are getting now.. and having to deal with.

10-4 on that.. wish I had back all the time I wasted on this so far..

I wish that also......it wasn't my intention to cause Jim W. more grief.........and I'm not into being "politically correct"........(that's really the issue here I guess) perhaps I should have PM'd him with my concerns, but I thought doing that was cowardly and didn't want to burden him. Sorry Jim!

I was thinking the same thing. I usually have no problem opening my big mouth about stuff like this, I just didn't get around to it. It's cool in the driveway, but not on here in my opinion.....

I hear THAT loud and clear. When I lived in Boston for 3 years, I could believe how brain dead the drivers were in winter. WORSE than New Jersey! :error:

I am not worried about threads like this one.. they are not the "waste of time" that I was refferring to.

Go ahead and express a concern.. even if some guys beat you down for it. Takes guts to do that.

Just wanted to make that clear so there was no misunderstanding.

What's wasting my time is the flamefest warriors, armchair appraisers, and anybody that just can't be nice.. Luckily for us, there are very few of them that we have to deal with.. as by in large, we are a pretty mature crowd here.

Funny thing is.. especially the in the for sale ads, it's typically not the first reply with a comment that is an issue.. it's the 'herd mentality' which leads to the posts that come later. Sometimes pages of them.

Okay, so I can't sit at the side lines any longer. I too, have been reading and tracking the posts regarding the 'for sale' items etc. and have also decided it's just better to keep my mouth shut - up until now. I would hope that I can get some good feedback from one of the moderators on what I'm about to propose...

First let me say this - regardless of what ANYONE thinks on this board (and I don't care WHO you are) one fact remains constant - this is JW's site. He can do whatever he wants. And quite frankly, if none of us like it, we can leave. It's HIS website, not OURS!!!!

With that being said, I don't think JW or the moderators are being unreasonable by saying that vulgarity, inappropriate comments and/or shear disrespect is no longer being tolerated. We're all adults, act like it.

I don't however see any harm in having a little fun. A few puns, a few hard cuts, and maybe even some adult acronyms never hurt anyone. I do not however, think this is appropriate to have such things located in places where children can see it.

Here's my proposal: Why not have (1) thread devoted to open discussions? If you are a member with children, or get easily offended, simply do not enter that thread. Now don't get me wrong - I'm not saying to have a complete free for all here. But if you have a non-Buick related thought to throw out to the crowd, then this is the place to do it. You still need to use your brains and you still need to exhibit some level of class here. If you want to comment on, or make reference to M@$$holes, do it there.

And as is the case with the rest of the board, if you really cross the line, then that's it. Use common sense. If what you write makes you hesitate for even a minute - don't post it!!!!

    Just my 0.02.

This is a greatly diversed V8 Buick board on subjects pertaining to Buicks or not as others have mentioned. I believe this great diversity is what makes this website function so well. If you stumble into a topic you don't wish to read skip it. I also believe it's important to be allowed to express ones concerns in a respectful and courteous way as the topic "massholes" has been done. I don't find the phrase offensive and it offers a little humor to break up the ever to serious/politically correct world. It's just a name coined from a Buick event to a group of guys from Mass that love Buicks and the name.

Just because you live in Mass doesn't make you a "masshole" as others have suggested so please don't take offense. That would be called stereotyping. I have children too and this board is way more sheltered than the "real" world will ever treat them.
I don't see any of the massholes acting disrespectful or noncourteous on this board so I say let them be.

Let's get back to wrenching and :3gears:

are you saying massholes is a dirty word? its not. its the name of a group of buick performance guys from mass. thats it. we have never done anything to deserve this attack on the name of our little group.

Again......trying hard not to be politically correct.......I have nothing against anyone here on this board.......but let me take this up one notch........

Even though that may a reasonable arguement, if it is accepted, then that sets a bad precedent. Going way out on a limb here, and supposing another group comes along and calls themselves F something......that would really be crossing the line........or is the AH word acceptable but the F word is not? They are both vulgar expressions.......as a child I got my mouth washed out with soap by a neighbor for saying them. Try getting a custom plate with the letters 'masshole' and see if the DMV thinks it's OK.

Here it comes.......somehow I know I'm gonna get flamed. :Dou:

I agree Joe. I feel that in the grand scheme of things lowering our standards here to allow that sort of thing only leads to another thing that will be deamed equally ok then once again the standard will be lowered. I for one like the HIGH standard this board has. The way I see it if you have to spout trash go to another board to do it......

    Masshole plate

Mass wont allow that plate because we can only use six letters.
