I have lived in East Tennessee since 1966, but I have also visited many other places in the U.S. over the years.People in the state of Tennessee are very good and caring people as a whole just like any other states. For someone to bash a state as a whole is uncalled for.Dont' like my toes being stepped on!

    Yankees? Tennessee?

I was mad a heck about the "War of Northern Agression" until somehere around age 25(twenty years ago).
I met up with some coworkers from way up north. One of them was raised in the Bronx and the other guy was from Su ste marie (er sumpin like that), The "UP", (upper penninsula) in Michigan.
Anyhow, I figured out that not all Yankees are bad people and they are certainly not responsible for what happenned during that war way back then...
I also have noticed that during my short time here on this board that it seems like the majority of Buick owners here are from "up Nawth" and evidently are some very nice people.
And I also love Tennessee and Georgia and Mississippi and South Carolina and Kentucky and Florida and so on and so forth...
    So to quote WildBill "Peace"

"Sault Sainte Marie"; it's french so the pronunciation is all f'd up. you hear "Soo Saint Marie". Sainte is abbreviated Ste.

there's a town by that name on both sides of the river, the canadian one is a bit bigger, i believe. i stopped in there on the way up to Whitefish point and Tahquamenon Falls. very picturesque.

    Sorry, but......

    Let it go...... :Dou:

I cannot understand how people in this day and age still even consider (judge) this when meeting someone from the "North" or "South"......Us or our parents, grand parents were not even born when this all went down.

When I meet someone, no matter where they are from I judge a person on who they are and not where they are from :puzzled: There a plenty of jerks in both the north and south to go around

The thing I hate is that everyone assumes that you are from New York City when you say you are from New York  I live in New York State and have never been to the big city  Nothing wrong with the big city (or the people), I just could not live there myself...

I do hate the State of New York for various reasons and some day I may move to the South....

That is if another so called Yankee is welcome

thanks so much for the link Danie, now i don't have to suffer through that insipid attempt by hollywood to rip off suthern culture. :bglasses:

i'm not trying to bust your chops here. i've driven through knoxville dozens of times going between Fla and Ind ... but i've never stopped. i don't know how the people in your neighborhood are, much less Knoxville in general.

but i see you come on here ripping all southerners ... because they're from the south...

and i have to say: as far as i can tell? the worst that can be said about them is that they have the same attitude you do ... just applied against a different group. but that's okay on your part. the last group of people that it's still politically correct to make fun of is white males and the last sub-group is good ol southern boys. so i guess that makes you right(er).

    as for my 'big city attitude' comment;
    1. TX - i worked in Austin, Tx (fairly liberal town, it being the main UT campus and all. nor is it technically all that small) back in 94 and all of the Cally-fornicators that were being imported by AMD, IBM, TI and the like were upsetting the long timers because they were coming into town and demanding that the locals change what they were doing to suit their left coast sensibilities.

    2. WI - i worked just outside of Madison from 2000-2002. you know what cheeseheads call chicagoans? FISH - F'in Illinois $41t Heads (damn them suthern rednecks, now they're taking over the great white north)

    3. IL - the vast (geographical) portion of the state does not appreciate chicago dragging them around by the collar

    4. FL - i know plenty of people in Fla who do not appreciate fiasco's like the 2000 election (palm beach f'd up the 2004 just as badly but the state went so republican kerry never even had a chance to win by lawsuit so the media didn't pay attention to it) and that's only the beginning. it's also really appreciated by the locals when newbs come down and build huge gated communities so they don't have to deal with the 'real' Fla unless they want to slum. and all that beach property being closed to public use, sheesh.

and how many tracks have been forced to close by northers coming down and buying/building houses in developments right next to a race track and then complaining about the noise?

    S
    T
    F
    U.

    5. IN - got problems with clueless fools coming out of Indianapolis and chicago onto the lakes who don't have a clue about boating rules and no interest in learning.

    6. MA - i've got a friend in Northfield. he's got the same attitude problem with people from boston.

    7. PA - worked in York for ~6 months in 2002/3. roomed with a guy who was local but who had come back to town from san francisco and las vegas. he spent all his time talking about how his parents ( specifically his parents mind you ) and all the other locals were so small minded and how he had to get to Baltimore or Philly or something were he could talk to people who thought about 'big things'.

so just how nuanced was he? just how tuned into the 'big picture' was he? this was during the Beltway Sniper shootings ... he called the FBI and left a tip that they should keep an eye out for a semi rigged with a ramp so a car could be loaded very quickly ... it'd be the perfect getaway cover. :boring:

no, he didn't know dick, no he hadn't seen anything. he just concocted this cockamamie story and wasted the FBI's time with a totally baseless conjecture. ridiculous conjecture (would require too many people to be involved, a rig is too obvious, absolutely NO getaway capability if spotted).

but he was oh so superior to everyone who hadn't left York. :Dou:

    8. i have a cousin who got an IU business degree and is now a purchaser for Ford in Detroit. when he was from 'here' he was pretty much okay. he had his quirks but don't we all.

last year he decided he should win an argument about outsourcing/economics among the old group of 'guys' by saying "i think i'm the only one in this room making six figures, so you guys don't know what you're talking about". he said this to a room that included another IU business grad, a Purdue engineer, a Boston Uni Media (or whatever they call the reporterette course) major, an IU Masters of Education, another IU business major and me (and i can hand any of them their heads in an argument more often than not). the best thing (in fact, the only thing that probably kept this from getting really ugly)? it was that he was wrong about being the only one making six figures. sure does take the tension out of the room to see a pompous ass get his ego popped.

he didn't USED to be from the big city ... but he sure is now. :spank:

'big city attitude'. it's real. it's a problem. not for EVERY big city person ... but there's definitely a pattern. there's a reason why the East and West coasters refer to it as 'flyover country'. and it's not because they hold us in such high esteem.

you've got your experiences. i've got mine. i can go to a half a dozen boards and see stupid, ignorant comments about 'southern rednecks' and sotto voce apologies by those 'unfortunate' enough to live in the SE and how stupid things only happen down south. i don't need to see that kind of thing even more places.

you don't really want to start trading anecdotes do you?

just to further fill you in; i was born in TX, raised in Fla but that was pretty much an accident of fate (or Le Tourneau and F.I.T. ). all of my family is from far northern Indiana. i've spent most of the last 20 yrs here (barring contracting jobs), i'm not particularly attached either way. i'm friends with real, honest to god Fla crackers (yes, i'm quite well aware that there are damn few of them), hoosiers, buckeyes, massholes, west virginians, tennessians, cheeseheads, upstate new yorkers and pennsyltuckians.

there's @$$holes to go around. and there are usually good people to be found somewhere in there as well.

    68skylark2 The Beginning at Last....

I had to repost......this thread has changed so much since I started it,
    1. I'm not ripping all southerners......my mom was born and raised in Bowling Green!
    2. My problem is with the people I've met so far.
3.I am not better than anyone, nor is anyone better than me!
4.Who cares who won civil war....
    5. traded my GS to a local 2 nights ago, tried to pass off a bogus title on me!
    6. had to go repo my car lastnite, thats another story..none of you want to hear!
    7. its not that I was implying that tennesse is the worst state, just kind of boring.
8.If someone treats me like a lowlife, they get it back 10 fold.
9.I've never had a enemy in my life till now....."neighbor"...never met him?
    10. I'm giving it till springtime...see if things change?
    11. since I moved to florida in 96, from detroit.....all I've heard constantly,
are negative things about northerners. So its a two way street.....
I've had to hear it......but I'm always condemned when i speak up in defense!
    12. I'd rather live in the south...that was kind of my DREAM!

Tennessee is a really nice state and i have had many good dealings with people from there. I have nothing bad to say about the south or any other state for that matter. You have your good and bad every where you go now a days.

    5. that guy is a peice of crap. now you know not to mess with him any more.

    11. can't speak for every one but if you like buicks, cold beer and are decent to get along with you wouldn't hear a lot from me (except for a little good natured ribbing.)
