I did not move here with this attitude.....I acquired it after 17 months of living in Knoxville. My only friend here is from Bristol...born and raised!
He hates knoxville too.......compared to Bristol area!
All i know is once spring hits....house goes on market!
Gonna take the money and run so fast back to Florida.......... :bglasses:
After reading all the various posts........C'mon guys its really not me!

I have a full set of teeth. I don't appreciate crappy comments like that.
After reading your posts, I know why people don't come by to see you. I wouldn't either. Do yourself and all of us in this end of the state and pack your belongings very soon. Some other state needs your attitude for a while.

I'll chime in here.... Me and the Mrs. have been considering on moving to TN as well(or back to MI.. not sure)... I have heard from quite a few people about TN's "attitude" to newcommers. Now... I'm sure its not everywhere there, but I also believe that there are a number of "smaller" towns that wouldn't take kindly to newbees.

Basically... we're looking for the best area where I can have 20+ acres... with good schools. When we get that list, we take a couple of weeks at each location to see what the Locals are like. Any burning crosses or Statues of people holding a Banjo and we're out  jk I have also known a few people who live in TN, and they've been real nice, polite, basically decent people I wouldn't mind living next to. :Do No:

I'll say that with FL... I don't see any bad behaviour towards anyone from out of state (at least where I'm at)... I have been to some areas where they didn't even like other fellow Floridiots moving in.

All I'm doing is sticking up for myself..........Trust me Poods.....I can't wait
to pack my stuff and leave! Its the people here that have left a bad taste in my mouth............Truth must have really hit home huh?
After being born and raised in Detroit... I can't tolerate ignorance........
I have not attacked anyone on this board personally, all i wanted to do is vent........now the bigmouth comes out of the woodwork!
Sure I have a Big City attitude, but I did not get to where I am in life, by insulting people.......I made a 200k mistake is all!
I'm sure Mr. Poods, if you moved to Detroit you'd be saying the same thing about Detroit.........if you survived the ordeal!
This state is like one big trailer park!
And we did not have any trailers, at all in The suburb of Grosse Pointe!
So maybe its just a culture shock .....I don't care anymore!
Now you've insulted me Poods...........I guess my point made itself!

The shop owner is an idiot. A knowledgeable counter person is worth their weight in gold. No such thing as overqualified. We all know the stores where there is help available and the ones you don't bother to ask. He could've been "the shop with the guy who knows his stuff" that gets the business. Think about how often you'd be willing to pay a bit more if someone helped you get the right part the first time.

    His loss.

Sorry you're having a hard time, sometimes you click in a neighborhood and it's great other times it just never feels right.

I live in a snobby neighborhood and there is always an undercurrent of distaste about "that old car". There's a guy who restores Mercedes Benz's he's OK but old buicks just bring down the value of the neighborhood. Yeah, right. I'm sure prospective home buyers are all impressed "Look honey they've got an SUV lets add another $15k to our offer!!!"

Vent away about what's bugging you, but try not to generalize too much or you'll disturb the natives.

    John

I am out of this thread. Life pisses one off enough without bringing it on yourself. I just thank the majority of the members on here who wouldn't start a thread to degrade an area or person. It is wasted time for us all.

I publicly apologize to POODS......check your email.
I had no idea it was gonna turn into this..........
Maybe if a local like POODS would maybe take the time, to show a newbie like me, the good here, maybe I'll change my attitude.

All i want is to be accepted here "TN''!

I've already contacted my realtor in Florida today, I'm just gonna sell here!
Gonna go back........Hurricane damage repairs are still going on......
Good job.....Great pay. I found a guy in detroit to buy my GS, taking it up to Woodward dream cruise to deliver in 9 days. Gonna bring back my 1970
440 'cuda, from detroit. Drive that a while, also have 1971 RT 440 Challenger.
Why should I change or kiss ass to be accepted here?
I have given 125% in being nice.......
I'm used to diving, surfing, going to beach, riding Harleys.............
Maybe my attitude sucks.........I've developed this over the years.
It maybe my 1% biker mentality....who cares! I wore my colors around town a few times......wrong idea!
I may be new here on V8 Buick.......but trust me I know my 70 GS's.........
my father and I have had 8 GS455's in the past 20 years......
my dad was on of the original GSCA members....in the 80's
So i agree Tennesse ,like anywhere else, has the same rude people that any other city. I was a bouncer at several Florida Biker bars........Never had a problem with anyone.
I can walk into any detroit bike club, and just walk in..because of who i am!

I do not need to impress anyone , but myself!
insulting the whole state was wrong of me......i'm truly sorry!
I'm not an ahole........I have very beautiful wife and kids, great 2900 sqf home
on an acre and a half. I'm just upset because my whole family hates it here,
and i brought them here.... :error: :error: :error:

I was born and raised in Fl and I am so tired of it. How is KY. towards Floridians or anybody moving there? I would really like to know.

    Yanks.

I am orig from up state ny in the catskills and have lived in waynesburg pa for awhile too. Then moved to richmond va area and have been here for 26 years and it seem like they are still fighting the civil war down here when it comes to the word yankees. But this is a very nice state to live in as are the other ones. But you never hear them talk about the civil war that much up north like they do down south.

Look dude, you came on the board busting chops about TN and its inhabitants. Expect a little heat back from those of us who actually live here and enjoy the life it provides.
I too am a native Detroiter (Grand River and Schoolcraft) who moved down here after getting fed up with the ridiculus pace and cost of living up there, not to mention 8 freakin months with a coat on. Initially you take a little ribbing from the guys about your Yankee accent sure, but I can remember lots of time Southerners caught real hell in the plant about their accents when I worked at Hydra-matic in MI. If you want to make a go of it here you have to understand that Tennesseeans are a proud bunch who don't take lightly to being treated a sub species by "educated Yankee's".
I live in a much smaller town than Knoxville with a lower percentage of people that have migrated here. I can't remember ever passing someone on the street or in a store or on a sidewalk that didn't either speak or acknowledge my presence. Its a country thing but I love it. Up in MI if you speak to someone on the road they think you want to buy or sell drugs. I have no love loss for the "Great Lakes State" and enjoy the real estate prices and weather here as well as the laid back pace.
My advice would be to lose your northern better than thou attitude and stop trying to impress people with your awsome life experiences and job capability.
Learn Spanish and head back to FL (Cuba, the sequel)

    Sorry......Why?

Here we go again.........For starters I do not have a holier than though
attitude. What I've accomplished, I've busted my ass for. I apologized also in this thread. Speak spanish? LOL ..............I left Detroit for same reason as you. It's a rat race there. I do not know where in Florida you are referring to,
but I came from west Coast "sarasota". ALL THE CUBANS are on the east coast. Impress people with my job capabilitys and life experiences!
On my next job interview here, I'll just put down that I'm a dumbass,
never been to school, and have never worked before. Maybe I'll get a job as a Mayor or something here.
This will be my last post on this site.............I do not need this aggravation
here too. :blast: Sold GS anyway!

can i have your avatar? speaking as a dumbass redneck south carolinian i wouldn't be smart enough to make such a cool one for myself. there aren't any native floridians left becouse they got tired of the transplanted yankees and moved to s.c. sorry just had to vent a little myself. it seems like a lot of people from up north come down and insult us by treating us like idiots because we have different ways of doing things. you told one board member that he wouldn't last in detroit, maybe so but it seems that people from down south adapt to new situations more readily than northerners do. just my observation. hope you find a place you and your family can be at home. just be careful about insulting whole groups of people at a time. when you talk about one group of southerners you talk about us all.

They dont talk about the ''War of northern agression'' up north, because it wasnt fought up north :Smarty:

1 out of 3 men between the ages of 16 and 40 were killed in the south over the span of 4 1/2 years :ball:

And most within in sight of cities full of loved ones.

    getting along

Well, I am from the deep South, [Louisiana] My ancestors fought in the american revoloution, the civil war, both . I MARRIED A YANKEE WOMAN.
It has been 35 wonderfull years because we have celebrated the differences, rather than accenting them. I tease her about her accent and she does the same to me. We have really had fun together. Our kids are YANKABILLIES and all are doing well. :TU:
We are all Americans and sure there are cultural differences. Cultural differences that can be celebrated. No body beats Texas barbecue, No body beats Louisiana seafood, Chicago pizza is wonderfull, Tennessee does the best pig roast. every body every where has something good to contribute.
I would love to go up on the East coast and try their clam bakes.
Shure I have had some people that thought that because I was big,[6ft3in-220lb] talked slow with a Southern accent andhad a laid back attitude that I was stupid.
After they were around me a while they found out that I was like the alligator, I didnt look like I was that smart. :pp
Far and away , most Americans are good people, There are a few bad every where. Here in Tenn. I have litteraly had people give me the shirt off their back. I like this place and the people as much as I did my native Louisiana.
