After 17 months of living in Knoxville Tennessee, I'm over it!
Applied for job at local auto parts store, It was quite obvious I had more
knowledge in my head than store manager, Filled out application, gave resume, Stated that i worked as auto designer for GM, I was told i'd be better off going back to detroit! He had no positions!
    yesterday he had 3 openings.
I've had an month long war going with my neighbor two doors away.......
I've never spoke to the man! He keeps telling me to move!
I bought a $200k home in an area where most houses are $120K
    What gives?
    Southern hospitality...........its a myth!
    They still hate us Yankee's!
Time to move back to Florida.........THIS PLACE SUCKS! :3gears:

yeah, if you were a new yorker you'd not fair much better in Fla (unless you stayed in a new yaw-kah ghetto like Palm Beach). that big city attitude so many of them have doesn't go very far anywhere and floridians are sick to death of them moving down and taking over the state. and f'ing it up along the way.

s'funny though. i was born in TX and raised in FL and i still got crap from some guys when i made a delivery in GA. all in good fun, but they still ribbed me about feeling sorry for me that i wasn't from GA.

It was quite obvious I had more knowledge in my head than store manager,
you ever wonder how much of that attitude filters out in your vibe during personal interaction? more specifically, during the interview process?

Filled out application, gave resume, Stated that i worked as auto designer for GM, I was told i'd be better off going back to detroit!
an oblique way of saying you're over-qualified. and you are. WAY over-qualified. are you retiring down there or something that you aren't looking for an engineering/designer job?

i dunno. i'm not going to say you didn't find a group of right bastards (those are EVERYWHERE) but i'm only getting your side.

ps - nice avatar. what's the car? i can't quite make it out ... there's something keeps blocking my view. :bglasses:

I lived in sarasota florida for past 8 years, the 33 years prior were spent in detroit area....being born, stuff like that! I had more friends in florida who were from northeast. I'm very concious of my 1st impression attitude, you never get a second chance to make a good 1st impression!
I have 2 other relatives who moved here first, from florida also, they also have had a hard time.
New Yorkers kind of get a bad rap.........IMHO, I'd
rather live there than here. You stated get a design job.....Here? :puzzled:
It's very behind the times here, Our town does not even have 1 muffler shop
with a manderal pipe bender!!! I might as well have "YANKEE" tattooed on my forehead.
I just had to vent.......I figured I'd let my friends here know.......
Only met 2 people here in past 17 months!

As you know, I live in the area you are talking about. Knoxville and the Tri-Cities always rank very high on the places to live in the US. Many times both in the top ten. If you think Knox. is behind times, you should see other places. And, I am not talking just East TN either. I do believe the "big city" life becomes an addiciton for people and some can never shake it. So, Knox. or other areas like it will never please these people. I don't understand why you blame the area for your problems, but I am sure you have a better reasons than the ones stated above. Good luck where ever you go.

One of the things I enjoy about this board is that many people of different backgrounds can chat and get along. They live all over this country and in other countries. Some make 6 digits per year, why many probably just get by. Some have degrees from major universities, while others work for min. wage. The Yankees and Rebels get along, and even when they meet in person I may add. We don't hate Yankees down here. We just dislike people who try to get under our skin. That could be a person from out west, down farther south or even the guy next door. I hope you're not one of those people.

Many times our problems can be solved by looking in the mirror. :TU:

By the way, sourthern hospitality still runs strong down here. :Smarty:

I hate city life! Traffic sucks.......people drive like a$$holes, you have to lock your doors, even your car doors in your own driveway! No matter where you go in a big city, people all seem not to care and are not very friendly. Any restaurant you go to around dinner hour is so damn busy sometimes you have to wait for an hour just to sit down! :af: If things go as expected, we'll be closing on the country house we just bought by the fall! :) I can't wait to set up my shop in the huge barn that comes with the house. :Brow: I'd be tickled pink to be moving to a country state like Tenesee though.......maybe someday when my wife and I can retire.

You know, people say New York like its one big parking lot. I live in the mountains. Oh, and living in a very Country area, even the local country bar and grill have 30 minute waits here... hopefully not the same out near you, Joe. I am actually from the Olean area originally, and want to head back out there for a weekend visit after the new GS arrives here :Brow:

Good luck wherever you go, 68skylark2. I've never been to Tennesee but spent some time in Texas. They couldn't believe I didn't have a "New York" accent, but certainly didn't treat me any different other than asking what its like in the "big city" :Dou:

Try Southern California, Orange County or San Diego County, not that we need more people but anyone can move here with no bias. Plenty of jobs, if you speak english it shouldn't be hard to find one. No one cares what state you came from.
But, forget the $200 k home. I don't think you can find one here.

Nice video although i almost didnt recognize her without the green "MUTE" in the upper right hand corner.
For what its worth I have been a transplanted New Yorker for 15 years and for the most part Southern Hospitality is alive and strong here in Spartanburg. Sure I get ribbed every once in a while, but Im pretty good at giving it back. What's the difference between a yankee and a damn yankee?
A yankee is someone from the north that comes to the south.
A damn yankee is one that stays.

California has been a thought, I do motorcycle restorations for a friend in Malibu......He's in the movie industry. He wants me to come there and be
a carpenter/prop maker. I moved here because of what I read, top 10 places to live.......It must have been the "fiction" version.
Real Estate prices are great here....WHY? No Jobs!
EG: Our Harley Dealer here.......478 HD dealers in USA.......Ours is Ranked
    # 478! Worst CSI scores in country. That was the Job that brought me here
to begin with, all the promises.......... :af:
This may be a nice place, if you grew up here, and never been anyplace else.
Scenery is beautiful, roads are great.
I have 2 boys 5 & 11.......I have to get them outa here, before This place seals their fate! They tell me at least once a week they want to go back to Florida!

I found that to be a false statement.......I met more nice people from NY,
while in Florida. There are very few true florida natives.
Bottom line to me is.......I'd rather live in Florida, surrounded my New Yorkers,
than stay here, amongst the locals.
Bling anywhere else, is shiny ,flashy things!
    Bling here....is having a tooth!

I have tried to just be myself, never had a problem with people before,
I have more friends than any one person needs. I moved into this very affluent subdivision. Never even had any neighbors come and say hello yet!
But yet the a$$hole that lives 2 doors away, keeps insisting that we move..
Never met the man........His dog tried to bite my son....I asked nicely to have him take control of his dog. he told my wife to keep our son on a leash!
My car is to loud...My posters in garage are offensive....don't look in my garage then!
Flips me off everytime he drives by. He actually came over wanting to fight about a week ago.........Never had that problem before!
Next time he won't get off so easy......It will be a fist fight next time!.....Its the locals getting under my skin! Jealousy thats all it is..........
I've just come to the conclusion....Tennessee Sucks!
