I just hope that, when all those people flee New Yorkistan and come south, they don’t vote for candidates who ruin Georgia too.

Thats a BIG problem. They flee and bring their **** with them. Then after the nest is dirty they want to move on to greener pastuers. I am a NY resident. Why, because my wife still works full time here. If she didn't I would be a FL resident and would bring good vibes to FL.

They are always ready to ditch fossil fuels of any kind, yet do not have the infrastructure to support the alternatives. I would love green whatever, but the reality is there needs to be tremendous changes done to make it happen. My house is heated by oil. how do you just change that? Trucking all depends on fossil fuels. Everything depends on it. Easy to say we need to do away with. How about a real plan for alternatives that don't give the elites with their private planes , yatchts, and limo's a pass.

It's funny, not that long ago they were referring to "peak oil" wrt the supply but then between getting better @ finding reserves/deep drilling etc. and fracking we have plenty for the foreseeable future. Now we may have reached "peak oil" wrt demand. I doubt we'll see gasoline dissappear for a very long time if ever, but I think we'll start seeing less & even a stop to building of new gas stations anytime now.

I agree w/you - I'm all for green/clean/efficiency etc. but it does need to be planned & commercially viable. Fusion & hydrogen, along w/solar & maybe some wind seem much more viable than batteries long term and at least the last 3 of those have significant environmental issues to manufacture.

Oh and BTW, the Xhineze are quietly snatching up the world's lithium reserves for making batteries. Seemingly I recall that we discovered that Afghanistan had significant reserves.

We were energy independent two years ago. That might be an important thing soon. Anyone making electric fighter jets yet? Can a C17 hold enough batteries to get off the ground with Dyson motors?

Yes we were Patrick. But transporting oil by train is so much safer (and more profitable for Buffett) than by pipeline even through we have 220k miles of it already in operation w/rarely an issue.

Just saw this the other day:

Ah, that's just the latest fad among "woke" lawmakers.. California did it first, now NY...

When it becomes apparent that the infrastructure can't handle the load, they simply will amend the law to push it out further.

I predict most of us will be pushing up daisies before any of these laws actually take effect.

I would not give it a second thought.

I watched a ASE webinar two weeks ago on electric/hybrid vehicles. It doesn't matter what any governor or president or politician says about going green or not. The OEM's will not be producing gas powered passenger vehicles by 2035, like it or not. They, the OEM's made this decision years ago. I don't remember the exact numbers, but in Europe, electric/hybrid vehicles already make up something like 30% of new car sales. Gasoline and diesel will still be around for many years, especially for commercial use, but we will be switching to electric by 2035, maybe sooner, like it or not. Thirteen years ago, the Prius could go 200 miles on a charge. They now have electric cars that can go 450+ miles on a full charge and can be recharged to 80% in twenty minutes. It still takes 8 hours for a full charge. The OEM's can see cars going 800+ miles on a full charge before 2035. Wind and solar power will probably need to be the main source for electricity, just like Europe is doing. The webinar was focusing on the technology and future repairs. The early ev's had over 7000 individual batteries. They already are down to just over 3500. One thing that they mentioned was repair costs. On a five year old car, the customer may not want to spend $2000 on ac repair, but ev's use the ac system to cool the batteries so not repairing is not an option. They mentioned fires from the batteries, but I think there are some Dodge? trucks that are being recalled for fires. Ford had issues in the past with brake light switches igniting the car. Remember Cadillac's v864? I'm glad that I'll be too old to care by then!:D

The exact numbers in Europe, Q1 2021 for battery electric vehicles was 6% : 202,410 vehicles in a total market of 3,080,751... but note that 6% includes fuel cell vehicles numbers.
Euro plug-in hybrids had an 8% share for a combined total of 14%.... but those vehicles still incorporate an IC motor, so they also would get eliminated by any ban.

The car makers are just paying lip service to the current power structure, part of which is their "woke" stockholders.

The problem is the acolytes all dismiss (or refuse to acknowledge) the two greatest impacts on weather, which puts man at a very distant third place. First is the Sun, which holds more sway over our climate than all of mankind with solar minimums and maximums causing cyclical weather patterns. Second are geological events, primarily volcanoes that put more CO2 into the atmosphere than man-made sources. Volcanic CO2

This also fails to address the fluid nature of weather. Everyone expects climate but we get weather. Then they fail to recognize the adaptability of mother nature. All of this evolved. It has never been a static system and never will be. We've been hotter, colder, more CO2 and more O2. At one time the atmosphere was so rich in O2 at 35% that a lightning strike would start a massive wildfire. That's also why we have a fossil record of gigantic insects.

With more CO2 in the atmosphere, plants grow faster, larger and produce more O2. The feedback loop compensates.

Not to mention, all that toxic battery manufacturing isn't any better for the planet than the ICE. How are they going to mine all that rare earth mineral without ICE?

I cannot see the oil companies allowing a law like that to be even thought of. They own to many politicians. If everything goes electric I can see a day trip taking 2,3, or even 4 days to do. It has been said, that it takes 20 min to charge to 80% then another 7+ hours to charge the remaining 20% doesn't make sense.
Then there is the environmental impact of producing lithium batteries. Makes Chernobyl look like central park. Then who's going to pay for a charging station every mile or two or 5 or what ever, on every road in America. The power grid cannot handle that.

Basically, they will have to redesign the entire infrastructure with in-road charging coils so that the in-car battery pack can be smaller and you only need it to get to-from the main roads. Basically, we'll all be driving slot cars that run off the power in the road. Your car will have a meter and you will get a bill like a toll pass does now.

Don't you know that only pollution made in the US effects climate change? China's pollution just goes away. As to the charging stations every mile or two or five, we don't have gas stations every mile or two. You just have to watch the charge gauge. I'm sure that it can be topped off, just like gas. As to charging rate, look at your smart phone charging rate. Mine goes from 20% 90% in minutes, but well over an hour to fully charge.

Another situation to consider (here in Canada), is why we are paying many thousands of $$$ of taxpayers money to purchasers of electric or hybrid vehicles? If u want one of these vehicle, then pay for it yourself!
