Tell them the story of the toll booth at the George Washington bridge! LOL!!! I was laughing all day about that

Haha oh yeah!! So I was expecting some tolls.. and my only experience with NY tolls is watching Die Hard when the Mr. Mclain noticed a roll of quarters in Mr. bad guys truck and noted it was the exact toll amount. A Google search later noted the GW bridge was $15..got it, game on.

1st toll: PA turnpike, 100ish miles. Come to the booth expecting the usual $1.90 like when I go to Maryland. "good morning, that'll be $39.00". WTF??? So that sucked..

2nd toll: NJ somewhere.. still angry about the last toll.. pull up and the only words I get are "$31". Ugghhhh.. its less then $39 so I'm less angry.

3rd toll: GW bridge.. the bridge I have been dreading since I agreed to pick up the car. Light Traffic on the way in, 3 minutes max waiting to pay. Pull up, lady looks at me and says that'll be $15 (then she leans out to see the trailer) "$50". So I say $15.50 oh thats great. "No" she unfortunately replied "50 dollars". So I proceed through the gauntlet of emotion and after gathering something to reply I say "$50?? you are just messing with me right??" Again she replies unfortunately "no its $50, see its on the receipt". Open wallet...remove cash.. proceed. It wasn't the best time of my life.

4th toll: Throggs neck. pull up expecting the absolute worst.. and the rather chatty fella says "$15.50" Great!!! I was relieved and could have hugged the guy. Then he goes on to tell me that you only have to pay the GW toll once as you already paid for your return. Ok great..that hurts less and I was at peace.

Get to Jason's house and tell him the goings on of what just happened. He politely chuckles and says there is also a toll on the way out. Inner peace said goodbye.

And there it was.. rinse and repeat this story on the way out and you get a glimpse of my little journey through NY.

Having just done a road trip that was 40 hours of driving, I know exactly what you mean about having a navigator/driver. Glad to hear that you both made it home safely.

That it has, always a blast. Funny story about this years event.. I accidentally booked my wedding the same day. Though I won't be there, we will have a fair Buick turnout at the wedding. Where the car, which was affectionately named 'Torty' by my fiancé, will play an important role.

All attempts to reschedule the wedding have been shot down haha

The part taulb left out about the $50 GW toll was me laughing hysterically in the passenger seat at the looks on his face! (Yes, looks as in plural. He went through all the stages of grieving at that toll booth I think!)

My favorite part was when she said "15.....50" and you said "15.50?"

    She say "no, 50."

And you said "50 like five zero???!!!"

I snagged a vacation, to the Turbo Buick Nationals in NC. While I was there my uncle finalized a deal on an old Chris Craft, that was in Chapin SC. So naturally we (My son Tristan and I) were tasked in bringing it home. We contacted Hugger through the board here, and found out that his shop was very near our path. We spent about 3 hours at his shop BS'ing and had a great time. Saw some really cool stuff while there too. It was a lot of driving and I needed a couple days to recover, but I'm glad I did it. I'll go again next year.

It also was great seeing all the NE crew, as I didn't make it to any Buick events last year, and I'm going to BG this year. Hopefully there won't be any scheduling conflicts in 2018, because I'd like to make it to Cecil and BG in the same year.

Here is the path we took.

You might be able to follow that link to my folder with the Turbo Nats pics. I'll post them in Briz's thread later. Right now I've got short cycle times on a part I'm making, and I have to keep running to the machine to feed it. It's really cutting into my V8Buick time.

Can't wait to see some pics of the green twins parked at some car shows/events this summer.

    That stings, but it's funny.

  16. That's a beautiful car. $135 in tolls would make me a bit grumpy. no Tolls out here in the Pacific Nw

That is a haul Mike! You passed right through my neck of the woods on 70/75 interchange. Great looking boat as well.

She sure is, still sinking in that its going to live in my garage. Oh and $135 was one way

I stopped keeping track on the way back but I think it was around $75 to head west

What about any plans to see what a an actual factory engineered '72 GS 350 can do at the track?

That would be just as an awesome thread to know what a bone stock '72 GS 350 is capable of at the track, would be like traveling back in time to witness or read about something like that. Would only need a couple runs, just mark down the time and date so you can go to that weather website and do the correction math. Video would also be a plus! Lets see how a Wizard tuned car can really run.(brow guy here if we still had that option)

Very nice car Justin, sweet score, I hope you enjoy it for many years.

Just read about all of the tolls, sounds like it might of been cheaper to fly out and drive the car back!

WOW, thems some ridiculous tolls, I thought driving through Ohio's turnpikes were annoying with those tolls but the ones you dealt with are even worse!

$135 plus the fuel costs driving there with an empty trailer that weighs 2,000 lbs, plus just driving the car back would be $15 instead of $50. So that is a couple I think it was $35 of savings so another $70 would be $205 plus fuel cost to drive there and the fuel savings driving the car back. I would guess 4 to 6 tanks of fuel in the truck vs around 2 to 3 tanks of fuel in the car's smaller tank. Now add the trailer rental fees in the mix.

Might of been a wash or slightly less $$ for 2 tickets to fly out and to drive car back and would of saved a lot of time.

Thanks for the kind words Derek, and I see we are thinking alike here. A few runs would be an excellent chapter in the life and story of the car. However there is going to be an adjustment period as I get to know the ins and outs before track day. I can't promise when/where/or the certainty but if track day happens I will be sure to share!

And tolls suck, but unfortunately sometimes the cheapest option isn't the best fit for my needs.
