NICE car Justin!! Glad your back in the Buick fold Green makes a GS faster too!! Oh, and we can pair up again, THAT WAS FUN!!
Mark I was hoping you would chime in! Good to be back buddy, if we line up again just be sure to finish a text before you take off at the green light so I have a chance haha Oh she will love this!
Yeah, I wouldn't of expected tolls like that myself, if I do ever buy a car from that area I will have to make sure I fly out and drive back. Maybe see if there is a non-toll scenic route for the way back! Thanks for the education of the toll roads and bridges, sounds like they suck. Can't wait to hear about the factory '72 GS 350 track trials! Make sure the first runs are with points and the second runs are with a distributer electronic conversion of some sort if that's what the car has in it already to do that comparison as well, would be cool if you did. I went from points to an electronic distributor on the Impala when it still had the puny sbc 283 in it and I picked up almost a whole second! Went from the mid 18s to the mid 17s with the swap and went from 16 to 18 MPG! Before you go maybe start a thread to guess what time it will run would be a fun if you want when you're ready. Fun stuff. Derek
Just to be clear, the tune is "Wizard inspired". I didn't actually lay hands on the car tuning it, Jason did. I first saw this car when I parked next to the owner at the Bellmore L.I. cruise in on Friday. This was a good 2 years before Jason snagged it. I started to talk with the owner, and he told me it was a nice car, but it couldn't get out of it's own way. Looked under the hood, and sure enough, numbers matching 1112109 distributor. I asked him what he had the initial timing set to, and he said, 4* BTDC, the stock specs. I explained to him that the distributor had only 12-16* of mechanical advance, and that his total advance, could only be 16-20* at wide open throttle, at least 12* short of what it needed to be to make best power. By this time, we had already established that he knew Jason, and lived close by. I told him to take it over to Jason and have him total time it to 30 or 32*. Shortly afterwards, Jason called telling me he had adjusted the timing, and the car left rubber for the first time since this guy owned the car. Night and day difference. Bet it would run a 15 something when Justin makes it down the track.
The car really woke up after that. I remember him smoking the tires all the way up my block! I wanted to do even more to it, like adjust the spring on the secondaries and drill out the primary choke pull off a little so it unloads faster. But, now Justin can take the reins. Im having separation anxiety today The last GS-350 I had (Larry might remember) was a 72 Stratomist blue, white bucket seat interior N-25 car. Another California car but no where as nice as the green one. The car really popped with the color and the white half top. Sold it on Ebay. Wound up going to Kuwait of all places. Never to be seen again. I wound up stumbling onto this video of my old car in Kuwait. The music makes me laugh
Taulb busted out the GS for the world to see as we went to our local cars and coffee event yesterday. Was small compared to the last one (this one had a couple hundred cars, two weeks ago there were around 800 or so, but weather and holiday weekend probably played into that). But still a decent get together and it was really great to get multiple Buicks cruising in nose to tale. The wifey couldn't go so she suggested my old man drive Elsa, which he absolutely loved. The Buicks got a lot of looks and comments, I think out secrets starting to get out guys... We also went to a nice little local watering hole for so.e lunch afterwards, and it was funny that the entire staff kept coming over and staring out the windows, along with every customer that walked by. And we're not exclusive, so we even enjoyed our buddy Jake bringing his lonely little Camaro...haha (which is an absolutely awesome car to be honest). It was a good time and the first of many I'm sure! And I could tell Taulb was loving every minute of the ride in that beautiful GS.
Beautiful car, Taulb! Congrats, and welcome back (not that you really ever left)! It sounds like quite an adventure getting your toy back home. Colleen and I look forward to seeing you guys again!
Thanks Cole! Glad you guys kept that picture and would be great to catch up again soon. The adventure was worth it, the more I drive the more everything just seems right.
You know.. I think you are right! Ohio isn't a bad place to live. And you can buy cold Yuengling from a drive through store 7 days a week
Since there has been some talk about what a completely original '72 GS 350 would do bone stock from the factory, I thought I'd add to this thread since I bought an original GS 350 for my Son when he turned 16. It was in 1985. This was a 40,000 mile untouched '72 GS350 with air, PS, PDB, buckets, and rallye wheels. The one option that probably made it a bit faster than your typical GS350 was that it had been ordered with a 3.42 posi for boat towing. We gave it a stock tune and took it to Orlando Speed World shortly after buying it and it want mid 15s and about 85 MPH. That was on BFG radials. After jetting the carb and re curving the distributor it picked up several 10th and would run low 15s at 88 MPH. It was after that that I built the 350 to run lots faster but, that's another story. Enjoy your new Buick. It's a beauty.
And what a Gran(d) return you have made. That's a really nice car. Great score. Now you guys and gals have your own caravan for Cecil, "next" year of course.
A few actually, Jason I hope you don't mind me posting your threads. http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/72-gs-350-update.312570/ http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/bought-another-gs-yeah-really.310941/ Thanks Tom, I've really been enjoying the ride so far. Still can't believe its actually in my garage.. As far as Cecil 2018, this is one that I would not hesitate to drive there and back and enjoy the A/C and highway manners. Honestly this thing impresses me each time I drive.
