73-77s have a way of growing on you. they really aren't too bad looking plus they ride really nice. What gears are in that anyway? Or should I ask what gears are going in?
I love the way the car is coming out. The wheels can always be changed in the future if needed. You guys are doing a nice job. You should have done my Rat. Or sell me the car and I will put in a Scottie motor and do the powercruise. LOL Oh I sorta like 73's! :3gears: :bla:
Totally incorrect sir. People buy big wheels because of their personal preference and what looks good to them. 20s are pretty small; with the right size tire they can fit on a 90's model Honda Civic. Older cars have way bigger wheelwells than newer cars. They make meaty tires for 20" wheels so that you can fill the wheelwell as much as you want. I saw a 73 Century on 24s with thick tires a few years ago that was tucking them with no issues.
WOW..... no post in a few days. i figure there would be more complaining about the buick or atleast more trash talk about the wheels...i think im going to post a pic....
Post some pics,:kodak: Stir the pot. It will be a little quiet on here this week with the GS nats going on though:laugh: Hope to see lots of cool Buicks and some old friends down there:beer
i doubt no issues anyway big wheels do not enhance straight line acceleration ,cornering ability and they dont shorten your stopping distance in fact they hurt performance and they just dont fit so whats the point
actually there is a happy medium with acceleration, cornering and stopping, and as for hurting that depends on the wheel weight. yes 24 inch wheels on yugo is a bad idea but a 18s on a caprice classic are not. but i feel some people are worried about a straight line 1/4 mile performance more than they are about driving around corners at high speeds. i think a 17-18 wheel is a perfect option for a car. but im worried about driving my car not stoplight driving my car.
with some work big wheels can fit very well.... I am not a fan of the donk look, but if you can stuff 20's and have the car stock or better yet, lower then stock height they can look great the main purpose for big wheels is to enhance the looks of the car... no other reason. Personally I would rather see some nice chrome fill the wheel wells over a thick chunk of rubber. To you it seems pointless, but to many others building a 500 + hp street driven car is too ( I dissagree with them too), when you have a limited speed you are leagally aloud to drive. As far as I am concerned...stock sucks and even the oem's knew they could do better, hence the reason production vehicles almost always are no where near as nice as the proto type / pre production versions they flaunt at auto shows ect....oh and they usually have bigger wheels then too :Brow: I'm not saying it isnt nice / important for some of these classics to be restored to preserve the history of them.... but I don't see why anyone that is using it to drive and enjoy wouldnt want to improve on the car some to make it even more enjoyable.
Well thats her.......And if someone thinks this ole girl looks like a DONK, their plum out of their tree.... Blue Collar is a sweet looking ride!!!! What yall think...
Thanks for posting the picture Tommy! It'll have to grow on me. Not a fan on the 20's or the painted chrome. Other than that I like what was done. Is that a hood tach I see? On the whole, I think it's a great example of what can be done with a $10k budget.
I like what you did with the front bumper, it looks clean. I think it would look even better chromed, but that would cost a pretty penny and kill the budget.
It looks great. Have you guys ever done a project with air suspension? It would take that car to a whole new level.....
I'm going to assume that this pic was taken before having the interior done, correct? You're correct in saying that isn't a Donk. It's not even a Chevrolet, let alone a Caprice or Impala of '71-'76 heritage.
Looks Good! I wasnt sure if I'd like the body color bumpers, you guys made it work :beer Cool Ride :TU:
