I used to have the same mindset so I know where you're coming from.

Now that I've matured a bit I don't see the need to rain on everyones parade if it isn't .... "my cup of tea".

After all, we're just trying to enjoy the car hobby!

So now I'm not mature and I'm raining on people's parades. OK ??? I still feel the same. John.

I'm just saying we all enjoy the same hobby, just in different ways.

The guy that started this post is a "Buick Guy" - This is a "Buick Board"
We're all Hot Rodders in one way or another. He's at least driving a Buick!

I guess I just get a kick out of the guys that frown on swapping out a part whether it be a motor, rear end, tranny, wheels etc..... but yet if most of us take a look at our own cars - I bet they're not 100% Factory Original anymore. Where do we draw the line at who gets crusified and who doesn't??

There's a ton of us on here running 12 Bolt Chevy Rear Ends. NO ONE has an issue with that? Granted it's not the engine but it's still a part that was swapped out in favor of the original Buick part.

All of us running 12's, 11's and for sure 10's are running a ton of aftermarket engine parts. How much of our 600 HP motors are factory Buick Parts ? ?

I love the 455 as much as the next guy, but I can appreciate the hobbiest in all of us. I'll leave it at that. :beers2:

I think "aftermarket" and "engine swaps from other nameplates" don't belong in the same boat when it comes to keeping things "Buick" or "Chevrolet" or whatever. If a part was designed to be bolted onto a (insert nameplate here) engine to make it perform better, then it's (insert nameplate here) enough for me, especially if it's made by a place that specializes in (insert nameplate here).

That being said, hot rodding is all about being creative and making a machine personalized. Regardless of what my personal preferences are, I can respect what others wish to do. Hey, we're all a little nuts, but that's what makes us all the same, right?

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING!! :3gears:

this is the v8 buick sit right?I mean if thats the way you wish to enjoy this hobby thats your right, however for those who want to justify it by saying you can't make reliable power,or it takes tons of aftermarket parts to run12s 11s or even 10s with these motors is flat out wrong.I personally ran 11.70s in a10.5to1 all iron motor thru a q-jet .sure you need to have things like a good fuel system, however you need this with any car.as far as being mature, well I guess I'm just a immature 46 year old,who likes his torque where its needed, down low!

I do know this, I love my 65 skylark, brought it home the summer I graduated high school, and the rest is history.

Jim, I need to really inspect the block to see what is wrong. But I think I am set on the LS for now. I have the upmost respect for the guys, like you, who dedicate themselves to making the "old iron" run like a well oiled machine. With that said I hope you guys can respect my decision.

You know I had a friend tell me to slap a band-aid on the motor and sell the whole car.

I looked at him like he was crazy! I will never sell my buick but I can tell you one thing, I get bored with things easily, and I like to change things alot. So I think it is safe to say that maybe in 10 years I might do something different. This is what makes hot rodding fun for me.

so thank you all for your comments and I will still stay part of the buick family, it just might have a different powerplant.

First off I have no problem with the LS swap it's not for me but aftermarket parts are not changing out the heart of beast.
Oh and my 12 bolt came out of a 69 Skylark.

    ...Canadian built, Eh ?

I think LS engines are very cool - I love my BBB but ... lets put it this way - if I was in a dry warm climate where I could drive my SportWagon year round as a daily driver it would have a built LSx and T56 in it ... prolly a trubo motor too

When I first joined here I had a V8 Powered Buick. It was an '84 Buick Lesabre running the original Olds 307 with the original 200-4r trans and the original "corporate" 10 bolt rear. It was a mutt right from the factory. So for those looking to do the swap I say go for it. As the sticker says "Keep your GM car all GM". Plus it makes it easier on us guys looking for Buick motors since the supply will go up

On a related note I'd rather see an LS powered Electra or Riviera than the millionth LS powered tri5 Bel Air. As long as it's something different I'm all for it. No need to always have numbers matching. Just need a few die hards to keep their car original so that people know the history and have a point of reference. The rest of the world can go crazy and show what's possible. If you can find a way to make an old car current then it just brings more people into the "old school" world who may have never been interested originaly.

My only concern is for people who don't take the time to plan out the expense and end up with half a car and no money left. Then the project ends up getting scrap'd or rotting away. Seen too many of those cases and it's a shame to do that to a classic car.
