The color on that car is Willowmist Green, not Lime Mist. It is a '71 color, code 42. Check out my avatar. Lime Mist is much more flurescent looking then the color on that car.
Mike...Its hard to believe thats the same car. Looks like someone took care of it at some point. How did it get so bad so fast? o No: Jason
Darren, it's probably a combo of light and scanning a picture more than ten years old I'd think. Does this more recent photo look more lime green? Sorry, couldn't resist. If you doubt it's the same car notice the tires and windshield stickers are the same. Jason, here's a lesson to be learned. Don't park a nice car outside under a cover for too many years. The greenhouse effect will eat it alive. Especially if it has been driven in a "salt the roads" area. Something just went wrong with the former owner's preservation ideas. Very wrong. Anyways, lets not kid ourselves. 1988 to 2001 is plenty of time for rust to set in under any circumstances. Mike
I like the lime mist personally. Here is a green convert. that reminds me of this. See if this works...
lime 4 sure! Here is a picture of a lime '71 GS455 hardtop I had in the mid-eighties. It had a painted white top and ran 14.5 seconds pure stock with 138k on the original, unrebuilt, engine. I bought her off a doctor for $500. 1971 Lime mist had to be one of the most outrageous colors Buick used on the GS. I agree with previous statements that Seamist looks washed out on the '70 cars. It has a lot more silver to it, and, as such, it does change in the various lighting and I think it often gets a bum rap because of fading due to the silver content. When it is fresh it looks great, as Steve's car illustrates. Sherwood is my favorite green. I always thought Aqua Mist was blue but some people consider it green?
Mike, Sorry for the confusion. I was refering to the first car in the thread that was just painted. I agree, though, the pics do look a little dull. What a heartbreak to see that car before and after. :ball: Brain, Are you sure that '71 is lime Mist. It looks just like my Willowmist car.
I'm pretty sure it was lime. The picture is old and the colors are not what they used to be. This photo was probably taken with my trusty 110 at the time and of course scanned in so we lose even more color. It was definetly darker than this picture shows as I recall.
accurate coloring. Over the years I have seen no less then 10 versions of Lime Mist green. The owners all insist that their repaint version is the accurate color. Once and for all (according to the General) this is the factory version Lime Mist Green: http://www.gmphotostore.com/source/Detail.aspx?L1=buick&L2=12613&imageId=2142812&action=&ss= Larry DiStefano 71 GS Stage 1 (Now in the honest & capable hands of Jim Weise)
With as much metallic as there is in these paints, the pictures all seem to lie. You'd have to see a true Seamist or Lime mist car in person to be able to compare and know what you've got. My first impression though (and I'm pretty good with color spoting on these cars) is that the car at the top of the thread is NOT Lime Mist. Lime mist is a very flourescent color, and that car just doesn't seem to have it. It may not be seamist either, it does have the "Willowmist" green look to it. If the car was an SCO car in a certain color, I think I'd go to the trouble to make sure that it was correct to the numbers. There are only a handful of those out there (SCO cars) they might as well be correct :beer . But someone in the thread said that there were 47 Seamist converts in 72... I've never heard of 47 cars SCO'd in the same color, something doesn't sound right here. Unless maybe it was a Riv only color, but then it would have an R on the tag and not an SCO. o No:
Sco As stated in the first post, the SCO tag referes to the Bucket Seat/Console option and not the color. I am no paint specialist but I have been to many National Events over the years and have seen many limemist and seamist paint jobs. This car may not be exactly limemist but very close and closest to limemist than any other color. I agree that pics are'nt the best but I saw the car in person. I talked to JR and most likely the car will stay this color. Thanks to all who posted thier pics!
Are Larry Gibson's and Mark's (CUSTOM) cars the same Sea Mist? What a huge difference in the photos. My Hugger Orange GS looks red to some in photos. I have a '68 Riviera that's silver and has Platinum (Green) interior so I'm looking for a good green hue to complement the interior - the silver just doesn't do it. It's a black vinyl roof car, too, but not on the car right now. I like the look of Larry's car with just the hint of green. Guess it depends on lighting. Going to have to have the paint shop scan a piece of the interior I guess to get a clue what is close. Opinions always welcome. Two photos attached. Thanks
Gary, Yes, they are the same. I got lucky with the shot used in my avatar. My car is really not that shiny. Just waxed with the sun setting on it. Check out my other pics taken within a few minutes of each other the same evening. Again, it depends on the lighting. Mark
Thanks Mark. The middle pic, the one of the rear of the car looks like it might be the best representation of the true color. Eh? It also looks like it might be a very good match for my interior and what I'm looking for. That's code 2171 on the chart one of the guys posted in this thread. I'll take it to the paint shop and see what I can find out. And the black roof on your car gives me a good idea of the final look of the Riviera. I like the silver but it just doesn't match up with the interior so it's gotta go... someday. VERY nice car, BTW! :TU:
That's nothing a buffing pad and a bottle of touch-up paint wouldn't fix. :Brow: Seriously, sad to see a car that was so nice in such shape. Hope your gonna do something about it soon. Hate to see it get any worse. Is it just the paint that is bad or is there structural corrosion too? Hope not. Would be good to see pics of it all painted up nice again someday. Good luck with her.
Here is a picture of Gary D's 72 Stage 1 (In the for sale section) that I think is Seamist and still original paint. Gary, can you verify?
I like the color they painted it. I say make them color match the doorjams and I'd expect the paint job for the cost of the paint.
