That’s crazy. Maybe the pro charger scared them.

You've got the major pieces for good power tho...the heads I've seen I'm pretty sure...so cam and compression will be your limiting factors....but even still I feel sure 550 will happen like falling out of a tree

I thought about going bigger but want to keep my power brakes. In a perfect world, I would built the outgoing motor for more power down the line, but with the upgrades I’m planning I’ll probably end up replacing rings and bearings and selling. 575 puts me in the 10s. I can live with that!

To be 100% honest manual disc feel way better than power and you free up engine bay room which is always a plus especially on a performance build where plug changes are frequent

I wouldn't let vacuum determine my cam choice on a performance build especially where 10s are possible.....just something to consider...summit has a vac pump that's pretty nice and a good Ole fashion vac canister is effective for a street toy

I’m not against a bigger cam. I can always sell the one I have. I don’t however have the $$$ for roller rockers right now and plan on using my TA rockers.

No, the shop does not determine the compression ratio. You tell them what you want to run, and then you pick a cam to put you in pump gas DCR range. You can run 11:1 with the right cam.

I’m pretty sure I’ve read where I would gain about 9hp with a bigger carb. Just out of the budget right now, unless someone comes along and buys my motorcycle over the winter Now I’m considering a different cam. Down the $$$ rabbit hole I go!

Your cam is a touch conservative, but you don't need anywhere near 250*@.050 to make 600 HP.. Hell, we did that with a 230* roller cam in Larry's STG 1 SE motor.. and I have built several copies since that one. Subtract 20-25 HP for the flat tappet version of this engine.

Rule of thumb- Better heads require less camshaft to get to a specific goal.

For you, my flat tappet cam of choice would be the 290-08H.. it's nasty idle quality when installed correct will wake the old ladies up on the bus bench, but still has enough vacuum for the brakes. Forget the high lift version.. it's just noisy and hard on the valve train.. power is all about duration.

There is very little power available from 10.5-1 to 11 or 11.5.. certainly not enough to warrant the hassle of mixing fuel or running straight race fuel.. if your doing that, then go right to 13-1.. and get the power your leaving on the table.

Go big or go home when it comes to compression... so if you have abandoned the idea of 91/93 octane pump fuel, taking the half measure in the 11's has little return on investment, so to speak.

Your about 570-580ish with that 288 cam and combo. the extra 8* with the 290-08H should get you near 600.

Install it at 106 IVC and run at least 25* of initial timing.

Thanks for that info. Since I will now have to add a roll bar, I def want a little more power to offset the added weight.

The Intake Manifold you run needs to support whatever the heads flow and a tad more.
If you want to know the motors true potential and make a very well informed Cam pick then I would try and get at least one Intake port flow tested while the Intake is bolted to it.

Many are surprised when they find out how restricted and hp limiting there Intake choice is!

Nothing restrictive about a SP2...the ONLY intake available besides custom for the TE heads

Ya, in that application the SP-2 will work fine right out of the box..
