When I was a kid, before I got married, I drove up to see my wife to be in Ohio one spring break. I didn’t know those big snow piles in the mall parking lot were hard as a rock. I was driving towards one of them and Deb started freaking out. She told me it was hard as a rock! That would’ve sucked. I sold the car to my buddy. He wrecked it into a palm tree.
I just updated to natural gas from oil heat. Now I have to have 500 gallons of oil pumped out. Bet I don't get $4.00 a gallon on the way back out tho.
John Everett always tells me no picture no proof. So I sold my 67 cougar to my buddy and bought a 69 Buick skylark. Much better car! It’s in the background of the second picture, barely.
On a more serious note, and keeping with the thread title, it has been much cooler, and dryer here since the hurricane went through. Usually we don’t have our first cool spell until October 31. So I would say this nice cool air mass and dry air is easily a month ahead of itself. The picture down below, oh yeah, that’s interesting also. That’s the five day forecast. It’s actually extremely south, but they always turn north. Dang it!
Our coolest day since summer here in SW WA today 77 and 53 for the low, will be 75-83 for the next week. We had a morning that was 42.
We are probably 50-60% of peak foliage here. This is a picture from our barn today. Probably the last 70 degree here for some time. Hoping for a few more but they get rare. Some of our trees have already dropped half of their leaves.
Anyone have that Darryl Roederer's contact? He was supposed to be in the Caribbean, chasing skirts... Sounds warm & interesting with winter approaching.
Earlier in the summer, I was working in LaGrange Georgia . I saw a hornets' nest only two feet above the ground (they're usually eight feet up or higher) Last week in Birmingham, I saw a Guinea wasp nest right on the ground. (they're usually three feet or higher from the ground) That's a sure sign of a cold winter coming ,,,,,
A sure sign of a cold winter coming is; The old folks (lifers in the area) have way more wood stacked than normal. so I will follow their example
It was a chilly 69° down here in West Palm Beach this morning. My toes are cold sitting on the back porch. I guess I’ll go in and fix myself a big bowl of hot oatmeal. NOT!!!!!
Woke up to 23°F this morning. Took the trash and recycling wearing only shorts and a T-shirt. At least my driveway wasn't frost covered.
