Somehow they used to be banned, and somehow it did stop there. Until the ban was allowed to lapse.

Somehoe we have banned hand grenades and grenade launchers, and it stopped there. And guess what -- the ban worked.

Somehow they banned AR style weapons and big clips in Australia, and it worked there, yet all we.here.is "bans won't work."

    Maybe give it a try?

The Founding Fathers certainly could knot know the future of "technology", but the most certainly did know that all humankind has a finite lifespan, and all humankind has the same "path" from infancy, childhood, adolescent, young and later , mature adulthood, and everyone of them(us), believe we are smarter than our forebears, yet we all realize how much we are just as those we came after when we mature and rear our own.

They certainly knew and understood what people on position of power over others will do.

    That has never changed.

So, they saw fit to recognize that the people never be in a position to be subjugated to the government they permitted to speak for them, lest the people find themselves subject to those appointed by them.

And "well regulated", means "properly outfitted" for the purpose.

In other words, outfitted to the same extent as anyone appointed to govern.

Those who penned the Constitution, made explicit that the individual, and the corporate people, never be at a disadvantage of those elected to represent them

No matter how uncomfortable such a though might be to some.

You’ve got to apply this type of logic and think about it like this, use this example, and it will be more clear to everyone.

We did in 1994. Lasted 10 years. There were all kinds of studies done on it. All determined that the ban didn't work. It proved to not be effective.

But that was enacted prior to Heller. A ban could not be signed into law at this point.

I guess it depends on what study you believe, how they interpret the data from each country and how the statistics are manipulated to fit the narrative.

If you compare the annual death rate from mass shootings per million people by country. Norway comes in first with 1. 88 deaths per million. The US is ranked 11th in the world with .089 per million.

We'll just have to agree to disagree Steve. Yout not changing my mind and I'm not changing yours

In 1718. By the way that was many years before the constitution was written there was a rapid fire gun... The forefathers that wrote the constitution knew about that gun... They knew the AR semi-auto was coming and they wanted the NON mental disturbed Patriots to have them....... So they could protect them selfs from the mental disturbed.....

Your mental standards must be different if these people are sane, rational people. Murder is illegal already so with your logic if the guns are gone made illegal it would all stop because these mentally stable people will suddenly start obeying the lawo_O Was the guy that drove his car into the parade mentally stable? How about the people sucker punching people on the street sometimes killing them? There is a major mental health issue in this country and its being ignored and celebrated in some cases.

Murder is illegal....a rational person does not commit murder.

We never banned “assault rifles” in this country. The so-called ban just banned features on rifles. The people who wrote the ban tried to define assault rifles by certain features that they had on them. Bayonet lugs, flash suppressors, pistol grip stocks and magazines over ten rounds were banned on new rifles. The manufacturers cut off the bayonet lugs, did not thread the barrels for flash suppressors, changed pistol grips for thumb hole stocks and sold them with ten round magazines. AR15’s and AK47’s were still sold, they just looked a little different. And they functioned the same as before.
AR15’s have been sold on the civilian market for about 55 years. And the vast majority of that time they were rarely, if ever, used for mass shootings. What changed? Certainly not the AR15, when I was a kid you could walk into just about any department store that had a gun department and buy one.

Non neutered AR-15s are "banned" here in NY but still readily available. Aside from the "lower", the rest gets delivered to your house via UPS legally

Blaming mental health IS a cop-out. Either we must be one of the only coutries in the world with crazy people, or we are one of the only countries with easy access to as many powerful guns as one wants. I wonder which it is.

Also, please note that the same groups that try to blame mental illness also have zero interest in trying to do something about it.

Saying we need longer prison sentences and more prisons is also deflection -- we have one of the highest incarceration rates in the world, and most of theses mass shootings ARE DONE BY PEOPLE WITH NO SIGNIFICANT PRIOR CRIMINAL RECORD. Yeesh.

We should institute a "pre-crime" division of the federal government. Arrest these people before they commit the offense

That report citing Norway features cherry-picked data. 2009 to 2015 conveniently INCLUDES 1 guy killing 70+ people in Norway -- which averages 3 gun murders a year -- while EXCLUDING the Las Vegas mass shooting here in the US. That whole report is almost certanly bogus.

Edit-This is a reply to the statement a couple posts above about shooters having no priors…

You just sorta proved the point you’re arguing against. I, like many on here, have no criminal record. Should we send the local deputies to my house to take my firearms (had I restocked after the boating accident)? What about my cars? My kitchen knives? My chainsaws? Hammers? Screwdrivers? Pointy sticks? Not to mention the fact that, were you to do that, the black market that would spring up, selling everything from lake-recovered guns to pointy sticks…
That horse is already out of the bottle.
