    TrunkMonkey Totally bananas

Addressing an actual tool/object employed per the "fact" presented.

However, agreed. The brain is the weapon, everything else is tools.

I was not talking about murder in general. I am talking about mass murder in America in the last 10 years or so. We are the only nation in the world that has this problem.

And for the record. NOBODY in america is saying take all the guns. People are saying lets enforce existing ruled and make new ones as appropriate.

The problem I have with banning AR's or any similar style of rifle, is that it will not stop there. More people are killed by handguns than with rifles every day - and the stats prove it is not even close. After successfully banning semi auto rifles, will semi auto handguns be next? The anti-gun crowd never seem satisfied as it relates to gun control. I have seen that fact very clearly in my native state of California.

Murder is murder. One victim, two victims, twenty victims. Banning AR15's will not stop mass murder events. You could ban them tomorrow and you will still have mass casualty shootings. Then when people use semi auto handguns, the talking point will inevitably be "we need to ban semi auto handguns." As to my point above, there will be no end until all firearms are restricted. At least that is my belief.

How about regulating criminals and their intents?
You know like incarcerating them when they commit crimes?
Let's not talk about unarming the good guys!
And besides as mentioned the 2nd A was for the prevention of tyrannical leaders!

Well, so far gun regulations are not winning, however the additional millions of guns every year remains unchecked.

and GMoz, that attitude is sometimes referred to as the right to rebellion. That is a scary road to go down. It was tried once and we are still feeling the repercussions of that civil war. One man's tyrant is another's hero.

We have greater numbers and greater percentages of citizens incarcerated than any other country in the world. I don't think more prisons are the answer.

The one common factor in all the gun deaths is a troubled person squeezed the trigger.

I guess you better give up your car because one was used as a tool to kill a bunch of innocent people, including children.
    Waukesha parade tragedy
The man accused of careening his SUV into a Wisconsin parade, killing six people and injuring more than 60 others, was a registered sex offender in Nevada and had an active arrest warrant in that state, court records show.

He was also released on bond this month after allegedly running over a woman who said she’s the mother of his child earlier this month, according to court documents.

The system that allowed this monster to be on the streets is also a tool that allowed evil to walk among us.

Just google "hit and run" and you will find many examples. I guess cars don't fit the narrative for some people.
No one was blaming the car in the Waukesha tragedy, why is that?
The list goes on: Fertilizer, knives, fists, etc have and can be used as tools for evil. The only common thread it that it takes a Person to use the tool for evil. Imagine that:rolleyes:
Where do you stop the "legislation"?

Please do a little research, we are not the only nation in the world that has endured a mass shooting and the mentally ill find other methods for mass killings in other nations where they can't get guns. What is your definition of a mass shooting? Gang shootings that occur daily in our major cities, those are being lumped into the statistics and where is the national outcry to stop it?

They closed the large facilities that housed the mentally ill people and integrated them back into society. The belief that medication can cure a truly mentally ill person is wrong. Are there statistics that show that this integration and over medication of mentally ill people has succeeded with a positive outcome on society? Does this have anything to do with the increase in general violence in today's society?

Watch the news, even they can't hide the amount of lawlessness occurring on a daily basis and generally being ignored or is taboo to talk about for some reason.

People are put in prison for a reason, why blame the system and not the people that cannot seem to control their own actions?

I agree with Mike. We decided our mental institutions were horrible, inhumane and violated the rights of those housed within, so we closed them down and turned the residents loose. We freed them from the rules, from regular meals, from treatment and shelter and set them free on the streets of America, and let them set the example for everyone else who’s unwilling or unable to participate in functioning society. We really did a good thing for those people. But at least they’re free now. As Kris Kristofferson said, ‘freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose.’

This is exactly why we need social workers at the ready when these crisis situation’s come up! The police are useless… These good guys with guns have no chance against these bad guys with guns.

    Complete cop-out.

Are you saying the US has a VASTLY higher percentage of mentally unstable people than any orher country in the world?

Hmm, no other countries have mass shootings like we do. What ever could it be?

Somehow, begore AR style rifles existed, Americans had 2nd amendment rights. But now the argument is that people would have no 2nd amendment rights without them. Those fools in the 40s had no idea how opprssed they were.

now the army is coming out with coputerized optics tied iinto guns so the new tactical rifles can kill even more efficiently. Now do we need those on the streets too?

June 1, 2022 – Mass shootings in the US account for 73% of all 139 incidents occurring in developed countries between 1998 to 2019. During this time, 62% of all 1,318 fatalities from the attacks also happened in the states.

These are the findings of a shocking new study, published in the peer-reviewed International Journal of Comparative and Applied Criminal Justice.

It shows some 101 attacks occurred in the US during this period, leading to 816 deaths.
In comparison, France had the next highest number of mass shootings, with eight; and these lead to 179 deaths.
Half of the 36 developed countries studied have not had a single mass shooting in the last 22 years, and only five had more than two incidents. In stark contrast, the US has a mass shooting every single year – it is the only country to do so.
