    Man this thread died early.

Lets look at some of the things that would be possible on a freshly designed head.

    1. Possibly configuring the head or a version of it to use readily available(read that as cheaper) chebby style stud mounted rocker arms. Who wouldnt want rock steady roller rockers at 1/3rd the price of the buick parts? Thats not out of the question because there are currently olds. pontiac and even ford offerings set up that way. You could even use the roller tipped econo rockers and save even more but that would be kind of counterproductive after spending all the money for the heads in the first place but it's just a thought.

    2. Howabout as on the new T/A stage one heads , raising the valve cover rail to accept stock style covers to fit over roller rockers?

    3. Since the ports on the stock heads were used since 1968 and probably designed in 1964 or 65 they also could use a total revamping(I'm sure thats already been thought of by the prospective manufacturer)to some thing lets say current to the year 2003.

    4. Cumbustion chamber design has come a long way since these engines were originally offered as everyday transportation so it'd be real nice if they were reworked to more modern configurations and maybe close them up a little bit so that a ten to one piston actually produces ten to one compression without milling the block .040 or more.

    5. Since the bore is so small and that limits valve sizes, If a dedicated stud mounted rocker design was used they could even be designed with a splayed or canted valve arrangement allowing for larger valves with the same bore size. Hmm what kind of flow numbers could be achieved with lets say a 2.02" or 2.08" intake valve and a 1.65" or 1.70" exhaust?

When you really think about it theres virtually no end as to what can be designed any more in this computer age. If someone could just design a dollar that buys more?:ball:

The heads can be a reality if we have the interest. I am willing to spearhead this thing just like the 455 block in order to coordinate the program.
What we need first is to start compiling a list of real people who are actually willing to buy , not just would like to buy.

SInce I began working with the company doing the 455 block actaully about 1 year ago, this is product that has already been developed or in production.
cadillac cylinder head, already on 2nd or 3rd production run
Buick alum valve covers, 1st production run finished
oldsmobile v-8 cylinder head, in sampling now.
samll block chevy 305 head, this one I don't have word on , but I think it is either done or nearing completion.
chrysler 440 and Buick 455 cylinder head in the works right now.
A port fuel injection system is in the works that will be a universal system that will work with pretty much any engine, looking at around $2000 price range.
And of course the new 455 engine block which is nearing completion right now.

SO if you guys are interested in seeing some 350 Buick heads, feel free to contact me at 915-855-6009 or email me.

I will start compiling a list, but please guys, I'm not wanting to put together a list of people who would like to see these things come out, most everyone wants that, I need serious people only who would be able to purchase . Jim Burek

If we can get a rough estimate on cost I think this could generate more interest. How many units would you have to sell to get production going?

  5. GSXMEN

    GSXMEN Got Jesus?

Sure would be nice to see them come in cheaper than the Stage 1 aluminum heads.....that's probably wishful thinking though.

    We can hope though....:Brow:

I really do like the idea about using screw in studs(7/16") and a Chevy or Ford style roller rocker like the Scorpions, etc. That should help keep the overall 'package' costs down!!!:TU: Another idea to keep the costs reasonable would be SB Chevy valves!! They come in just about any size or design out there.

Can't wait for these heads to become a reality!!!:bglasses:

I would definately buy a few sets of heads provided you/we could get them approved by NHRA for use in Stock Eliminator!!!

New rods and their approval would be nice also. Getting kinda hard to find. We use STOCK rods with ARP capscrews. We have 489 runs since we bought the car and make about 400 hp with no rod problems to date (knock wood)... no about those rocker shafts..........

Getting that block girdle would be GREAT also!! It would also "deeped" the stock pan.

Let's get these great parts into production and approved by NHRA also.....

    Let's update the E.T. below to 11.66 in K/SA!

Yeah, I'm in... but you guys will have to remember those Wildcat Heads from the UK. Appently there are quality issues with them... This is a message from a gent thats done work with them:

    "Without Prejudice

    Hi Greg

Thanks for your e-mail. I don't know if you are aware of what I do, so it may help if I give you an idea. My speciality is Rover V8 engine management systems, so I'm not trying to sell you anything in terms of engine parts, etc. I have been doing this for over 14 years, and have been involved with around 6000 vehicles in this time.

Maybe you could give me an idea of what you are trying to chieve, so that I can point you in the right direction (as best I can).

This information is a summary of my personal testing results, and it is provided in strict confidence that you will not pass it on. It is not my general practice to slag off other people, which is why I won't put this on the forum.

You may find it very beneficial to contact V8 Developments directly, since they have done a lot of dyno testing and evelopment. You can find them on:-

    http://www.v8developments.co.uk

Basically the current version of these heads achieves massive airflow, but with almost no swirl in the combustion chamber. This means that the heads are exceptionally inefficient, and require 2-3 times as much fuel as Rover heads producing similar power. Because of this the fuel burns very slowly, so it is usually still burning in the exhaust on the way out.

To be fair, Rob (at V8 Developments) has built a very powerful
carburettor-fed 4.6 race motor using these heads. However there is no requirement to measure the fuel consumption in this case.

V8 Developments have come up with some modifications to the castings thatwill improve the situation dramatically, and they are waiting for delivery of the latest versions.

In my opinion they are only worthwhile on full-out race motors, where outputs over 400BHP (over 6500RPM) are required. Testing will reveal whetherthe new mods have made them useful or not.

The other issue concerns quality of the castings. All four pairs of
these heads that I have seen were severely porous when delivered. The casting quality is dire, with loads of silicone contamination. One pair had to go back four times before they were sealed.

Customer service is not great at Wildcat, and Mr Richardson will nearly always manage to show you how everything is your fault. My personal choice would be not to deal with someone like this, especially from overseas.

I hope this is some help to you. Please feel free to ask if you need more info."

Now I'm hoping this is NOT a issue with the new heads.

    350 Alum Heads

    Well Guy's,

I hope no one lost interest in the 350 head. TA does not have current plans to do this project, however, I was talking to Mike T. today and he's heard that it looks like the 350 aluminum head has become a reality for another design crew. According to the info out right now, the head has been casted. No details on this head, the machining, design, nothing...

The first thing that comes to mind "again", why all the hush, hush. Man, I'd be busting at the seems if I had a product like that comming out. I'd get as much interest going as possible. I'm sure their are lots of small block guys out there making decisions on a combination, having head work done and maybe switching to a big block, not knowing that this head is closer to a reality than we all think.

We are a small community of people. Communication on timelines of projects should be a priority. This is your #1 marketing tool. I know the Buick community has been accused of showing big interest in projects and then not comming through at purchase time, but hey, this is a perfect example of why this happens.

Also, I still don't know why it seems to be some vendors practice to first try to get down payments to spark a project or even an interest in one. Did Holley, MSD, TA or for that matter, any other company producing a product in the automotive industry, go to the public and ask for "commitments on dollars", just to get parts produced? Marketing research, COMMUNICATION and real confidence in what your producing, makes a project sucessfull. I hope, for the Buick community, this project is a complete success.

If the heads are out of casting now, it shouldn't be too long before there out on the market. But then again, who knows, it still must be a secret!!! :Do No: SSHHHHHH

    Mike - That's quite a pleasant surprise!!:TU: :bglasses:

Hopefully, details will be forthcoming in the near future!

Judging by the success and quality of the TA Stage 1 455 Alum. heads, I'm sure the 350 heads will also be 'works of art'!!! :TU: Let's hope they fly off the shelves at least as fast!!:Brow:

    Sorry Scott,

This is not a TA head. After reading my first post, it did kind of sound like it was comming from TA. I have correct that post. :error: It was just the information I heard from them.

Would the 'other folks' be Bulldog/PAE??

It would have been nice if TA would have pursued this!!:Do No: One big project at a time...I guess.

Regardless....I'm still glad to hear there will be an aluminum head for the 350's SOONER rather than later!!!:TU: Sure beats anything that could be done with the stock heads!!:Brow:

It's been said that I don't know $hit from shineola in the Buick world but I would venture to say that it IS NOT Bulldogg that is doing this. Well according the phone call I just had that is. As with anything, there are always rumors that are gonna fly around in regards to any company or business !! Some fact, and some started simply to ruffle feathers. Are there heads getting done ? Yea. Are there intakes getting done ? Yea. Thats all I can, and will, say about it !!!

Unfortunately for us that are waiting on this stuff, NOT ALL of those involved have an unlimited R&D bankroll to fund these deals. Like Holley, MSD, TA. I am quite sure that there are a lot of us that would like to just go out and design something needed and sell away. I have a couple ideas myself, but I don't happen to have a money tree to pick clean and toss away growing in my back yard. And my bank accounts can't provide the needed funds to do so. In a perfect world yea maybe, but for the younger companies out there, I feel for them. And I will be more than happy to wait. And if need be, pony up a deposit for a a part I want.

Everything comes in time I think. When its time, then its time. As to the hush-hush theories. Posts on message boards around the net like this one is exactly the reason they shut up. Have had a couple different people tell me that recently. Fact being, folks come in and destroy a part before it ever sees the light of day.

In closing: I would like to publically Thank the 3 gentlemen that helped provide my content here, and asked that I post some of their feelings in this post. Even if ever so slightly, they got to speak some of what they think. Less the foul language though guys SORRY HAHA. Please feel free to bash me. I can honestly say that it won't shake me this time............
