isn't that just a 'halo'? i thought the girdle consisted of more.

David - If you scroll down towards the bottom, you'll see pics of the girdle installed on the engine.

The Buick V6 and the 350 are "deep skirted blocks". If you notice, the girdle is mounted from pan rail to pan rail - covering the main caps in the middle. Doesn't get much stronger than that!!!

Here is TA's 455 girdle with halo sitting on top.

    shorty headers

hey anyone think if they make those alum heads for 350 they should make shorty headers for it too? i called taperf and they had no plans for 350 shortys right now . what do you people think andy :TU:

    sbbuick My driving scares people!

I dn't see the need for short headers, personally. Our cars have a lot of room to work with and long tube headers are better for power anyway.

    350 Rods

Has anybody contacted Oliver about making forged rods for the 350? I talked with them a year or so ago about hammering out a set or two for the 300. They said they could do it. Cost would be around a grand for the first set. If enough of the 350 guys got together to do a bulk purchase, it's likely that the price would drop.

    350 rods

if the capscrew rod in the v6 can hold 500plus hp why cant the 350 capscrew which i have in my 72 engine since i spun some bearings before and local machine shop had trw replacements for 20 a rod (about 6 years ago) i would like to see alum heads.
i would like a set of shorty headers more as here in illinios we have to be emmisions legal and my 350 cars are a 79 and 83 regals and have to have those cats underneath . :TU:

If anyone's interested, here are flow numbers for the Cadillac 500 heads that Bulldog just finished. Sounds like they know what they're doing over there. Even better is how quickly they got them done (only about 6-7 months according to an earlier post by Jim B).

Bulldog Cad 500 head flow numbers

Bulldog is also working on Olds 455 stuff too (heads, intake, block), so it wouldn't be a bad idea to get in line ASAP.

    Re: 350 Rods

There is no problem with getting a company to make rods for the 350 Buick. You do have to be careful because an after market rod will usually have a bigger big end on it and that can get in the way of the cam.
The problem is this, how many 350 guys will step up and buy a set, not just say they would and not come through once they were ready. This has happened far too many times in our beloved Buick community. Jim Burek

    Re: Re: 350 Rods

Hey Jim would the stock rods hold up if Bulldog ever did come out with the aluminum heads? Im judt curious to know if the HP increase would deem this a true necessity. One more thing maybe if someone makes two new sticky threads one to see if there would truly be an interest in the heads and the rods. I would personally go for both if they are within reasonable price ranges. But then we would probably have to have at least 100 people want the same items to make this a reality.

    Re: Re: Re: 350 Rods

Ivan, I would really want to start looking at better rods after about 450 to 475 horse on these engines.
A list can get started to see what the interest is. It would not take 100 people to move forward on some of theses projects.
If there were a solid 30 to 40 people frimly committed, I would say things would happen. Jim Burek

    72skylark 4 Doors of Fury!

see, if rods were availible right now, I'd buy a set, but when my motors all together in the next 3 weeks, its too late for me.
Is the 450HP on stock untouched rods? What about polished beams and shot peened, whats that worth for strength?

It sucks that we don't have rods, but if stock ones can handle 450, I don't think too many of us would need it. Has ANYONE every actually broke a rod in there 350?

    350 alum heads

is there any info on what size valves would these heads ?will they be higher compression heads?rough estimate on prices?will stock acsseories and manifolds be useable?.rockers, pushrods? this would help me decide as my engine isnt in my car yet. more hp the better:TU:

    Re: 350 alum heads

The heads will have whatever the buyers (you/us) want them to have (within reason). If people want them to come with 1.92/1.55" valves, they'll come with 1.92/1.55" valves. If people want them to fit their current manifolds and accesories, they'll be made to fit standard manifolds and accesories.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if they do get made, they will fit standard buick 350 manifolds, headers and valvetrain. I'm guessing that most people will want to be able swap as much of their current parts as possible and also not have to worry about only being able to get replacement parts like rockers and gaskets from Bulldog. Changing some things like valve and port location would improve performance, but I think that's a little farther down the road.

In any case, like I said, it's up to the buyer, so let them know what you want.

Jim B. - Will the alum. heads have a modern heart shaped comb. chamber??

Kind of a similar head as the new Stage 1 alum. heads?

Will they overlap with the 'street' guys...or will they pick up where a well ported iron head leaves off?

I really feel you are on to something with 350 perf. items!!!:bglasses: I just hope people come thru with orders...not just business as usual.:Dou:

Are you going to be looking for sizeable deposits for the heads?

I really don't have any info on the 350 heads at this point, The fact is, if enough people want them, they will become a reality.
As far as configurations, I would expect they will start off unported as good as anything currently available fully ported and of course go up from there. The 350 is limited on valve size due to the bore size, but don't let that bother you, the v-6 stg-2 stuff flows some incredible numbers and they are based on a similar bore size. More modern technology will really make a difference here.

When the time comes, I expect we will go the deposit route here as well, it is really tough to do stuff like this with nothing more than tire kickers. Jim Burek
