its just an accidental mishap that happens in the burnout box. doesnt ever happen while going down the track. but i cross the line at 4900 to 5100 and click it at like 5000 to 5200. i plan on doing an aluminum headed motor for next year. ya.. mark was standing right next to it. probably thinking it was a rev limiter till i told him. and the valve springs were fresh in march. whole motor is built.. i havent had the money to fill the bottle and get some more race gas but ive tested the solenoids and everything is working. i have 2 fire extinguishers ready for the test run. :3gears:

ill be trying to get the nitrous set up right for next year. but this is all i can afford for now.

Lonnie, I still have those pistons, incase something goes south!:spank:
    Lol, kidding.
Just start saving up for the good stuff over the winter. I actually steped off the deep end, went with aluminum TE's, JE pistons, sportsman rods and sent my block to T/A to have them machine it for the girdle and short block it. I hope to be well into the tens? I think it will be well worth it. Better safe than sorry:TU:

What class would you need to run where a 2 step is legal?

which pistons, send me a pm. ive been eyeballing like 4 different sets of ross pistons lately but ive been debating building up a sweet motor or redoing my suspension to handle more power. spohn bar drag shocks. i want stg 2s and forged pistons. :dollar:

super pro. thats a no go .. full of dragsters and super fast door cars. i could race in the midwest outlaw class. but i dont know if im that good. i would like to keep running no e till i get good at the light. 75 dollar entry and losing in the first round would suck in the steeper classes. :3gears:

To me a rev limiter is a must my first BBB might still be alive if I would have had one.

Great choice on the Stage 2 head!!! :TU:
The best forged piston will be a spherical dish.
Are you also looking at a roller cam?

no roller cam. thats to much money. going to have supremeefi aka mark grind me a solid cam once i get rollers heads and know my scr for sure. i wanna run it on 104 at the track and maybe 91 on the street for a while and 110 with spray. depending on how the suncoupe comes along. since my chevelle is my only vehicle, i have to drive something.want 11 to 1ish with aluminum heads. and something like the 308s. want my vengeance on the mustangs next year!
i would have a rev limiter. but i decided i would spend my money racing this year and collect parts over the winter to make it safer. my engine will never see over 5500 only on occasion when im sleeping in the burnout box thinking about the light or something.

Looks like your last post went out in triplicates.

Anyway the 470 shortblock with the eagle BBC rods and Diamond spherical dish pistons is the way to go.
It is the cheapest combination for a 700+ hp bottom end.
You will only need to deck less than .020 to get a 11:1 compression ratio.
I know that you have seen this post before but here is a review.

i would love that set up but i don't know of a shop in driving distance competent enough to grind on a buick Crank like that

I could check and see if my shop can do the offset grind. Not sure, haven't asked them.

I know Tyler was going to do the 470 in the race car i didn't know who he planned on using. i know Jim w was talking about building his 470 set up shortblocks and selling them crate style. or something of that nature. maybe he will get caught up by off season to let us know pricing . If your machinist could pull it off that would be sweet

Here is the pricing from Jim W

He will be doing another one for the next engine build in his new shop location.
This next engine will be an all out effort for low end to midrange power
    and gas mileage.

That's not a bad price at all. would that be a bolt in type deal or would i still have to check all clearances and do a bunch of block work? i wonder what an assembled shortblock 0 deck would be?

All clearances that involve the rod to crank and rod to piston are done.

    Before you order
You will need to have your machinist check the block first to see what oversize piston is needed to clean up the bore
and to make sure the deck heigth is more than 10.550 after any decking needed to straighten out the block.
That means, all the block machining including the line boring needs to be done first short of the final bore and hone and final cut on the deck.
Of coarse the preliminary block sonic check goes without saying.

Here is Jim's breakdown on a short block where you know all is done right including the oil mods. You will have to talk to Jim about the block girdle.
