So is it time for the 470 short block (Maybe a girdle?) with TA Heads? Bracket racing with Nitrous is an extra problem and expense to deal with. To run consistent, the bottle pressure and fill must be the same every run so when it is cold you are heating the bottle between rounds and when it is hot you are blanketing the bottle and trying to keep it cool then purging last minute to get the pressure down. We had the best luck when we were the fastest car in the class and would dial up a bit (sand bag) and run our opponents down and fender race to the end. Consistency was no longer an issue. However, sandbagging is generally frowned upon.
was thinking about sending the nitrous back and buying the rotating assembly for the 494 ci. thats for sale by rob ross. na with ta heads. what do you think about that .about 12 to 1 cr with some good flowing heads and a 1050 and spx. already have 2 inch headers. my 462 to go into the suncoupe.

Lonnie Those pistons have a slight dome and are meant for the stock 68-71cc iron chambers. If you use them with 64cc aluminum head chambers the cr will be well above 14:1. Are you going to run the Chevelle on the street at all after this year? Paul
if i get the suncoupe together i will make the chevelle a racecar. dont think running gas there is much gain from going 12to1 to 14to1 except more critical tuning. i would prefer 11to1 and run 104 octane easy. and could still spray some. i dont know if i could afford the maintenance of methanol . or does the low price of fuel offset the oil and fuel system headaches
I would've never thinkedo No: one bit, I would of bought it and went faster then what you think your gonna go on nitrous. Then later on added the Nitrous and really went faster.
The more compression you add to nitrous, it really wakes the engine up AND yes the more compression you have with good heads the better they work. not the other way around.
Don't forget to thoroughly inspect all N2O and fuel connections for leakage before you start the engine. Sounds like an obvious step, but I knew someone who had leaks next to the carb in both systems after installation and thank God there was no source of ignition. He had liquid gasoline dripping and gaseous N20 leaking underhood on a running engine...you can imagine what kind of fire that could have been. Devon
If/when I ever run n2o it will be rpm switch activeated as seen and heard guys at the track stall/flood then crank the engine when armed @ w.o.t filling it with fuel & n2o on startup it's nasty. Jamie
Run the RPM window so the nitrous is activated at a certain rpm and switched off at least 200 rpm before the rev limiter goes on.
Right now its setup to a button. i want a wot switch. and value float is my rev limiter in the burnout box . ouch. Need to be more care ful of giving over 6 k
You're just kidding about the valve float comment, right? If not, you need to know that this knocks the hell out of the springs to the point that it will continue to happen at lower and lower rpms as the springs degrade. Recipe for disaster. I wouldn't be putting more power into this engine until that issue is resolved (new valve springs) unless of course, that was just a joke. Devon
On the online instructions it says all kits come with one but it came with a button. mallory 42 dist. i could probably rig it up to the throttle. if i tried
Devon, he isn't kidding about the valve float. A rev limiter and a window switch would be nice Lonnie. Have you tested it yet?
