    John,
I was not picking on you or anyone in particular with my post. I was just trying to show that smoking affects not only the person doing it, but many others as well. That point is often overlooked.

Believe me, if you can quit I will be the first to say I am proud of you. I imagine its not easy, but anything that is worthwhile doing is not easy. Stick to your guns.

I'm really proud that you guys are this determined to quit! I think the support that you guys will receive from each other will be very encouraging, and I'll be rooting for you all as well!

I wish my supervisor would quit... If I get an opportunity, I think I'm going to bring this up to him. He's about to be engaged to his girlfriend soon, and I know the benefits to quitting for himself and his girlfriend would well outweigh the pacifying comfort that a smoke can bring. He *loves* babies and kids as well, so I would really like to see him quit for his future family.

Anyways, Good luck guys! :TU: I wish you the best, and I'll be prayin' that all goes well! :)

Count me in!!!!!!!! I do not have a large habit but it still is unhealty. I was clean for the last 2.5 weeks and then went on a 4hr road trip today to get a 70 ram air hood. The urges to have a smoke while walking through a grove full of cars over took me. It is now time to start all over again. Great post. It's crazy that all of us buick owner/smokers would die before driving into a possible hail storm but we ingest toxic gases that we know will hurt and/or kill us. Maybe we should treat our bodies and families like we treat a piece of iron in the garage.

    Renee - you go, girl!

I quit in January 1999. I used the patch for about 6 weeks. I finally stopped using it because I didn't like the adhesive "welts" I was accumulating on my arms. It's not been easy, especially when you drink and socialize. I can honestly say that about the last 6 months smoke is really smelling nasty to me.

Good luck - it's worth it.

Well, I haven't read this thread in a couple days, but I'm truely impressed with some of the will power that I've witnessed here. I'm with ya guys. I really want to quit. Cut back from 1.5 packs a day to .5 a day, but I know that I still have a long way to go. I'm hoping to just keep cutting back until I quit completely. Being that I started smoking on a regular basis at the age of 18, I've been smoking half of my life. I always thought that if I wanted to quit it would be easy....til I tried it. It's just terrible to be this addicted to such an unhealthy habit.

Being that I am currently unemployed (hint hint someone give me a job) I've noticed that being bored brings on the cravings. I've busied myself with home improvements (painted every room in my house 2 times since June) and that helps. One good thing about being a bum is that I don't drive to work every day so that cut out a couple cigarettes a day.

I definately need to work on my will power a little more but I want to be around long enough to watch my girls grow up and move out

I'm in and I'm still going to make sure that I don't find food as a replacement and I'm still working on getting in better shape. My mom goes in for surgery next Tuesday to have a hip replacement so that's the date that I have set as a 'I will not smoke any more'. I'm in this with you guys and I'll struggle right along side ya. Good luck to everyone and fight the URGE!!!!!

It's time to get busy! I am sick of trying and not following through with it. I was just out in the garage and destroyed:af: all of the cigs that I have.:blast: The only thing left for me to smoke in the future is Chevys, Pontiacs and whoever else is beside me. I hope everyone keeps updating the board on their efforts because it is really helping me want to be smoke free.

Congratulations to all of you. Glad to see that you are all taking charge and making an attempt to quit. Every cigarette you smoke takes off 11 mintues of your life. Minutes you could spend working on your car! If you are watching T.V. there is a commercial stating that every eight seconds someone dies because of tobacco related illnesses. Lets make sure that someone isn't any of you. GOOD LUCK!

I remember last year in grade school when a police officer came to my school to talk about drugs and cigarettes. He picked the biggest kid in my class out of us. This kid must be at least 200 pounds and at least six feet. He said that THREE drops of niccotine would be enough to make him drop dead on the floor. Pretty scary. For me, he said LESS THAN ONE drop.
